Ive got several 85s with 360+ gear. Im contemplating taking a Paladin (85) and the level 60 toons, and go bust down MC for the T1 epic gear... rep and a shot at Legendary's.

Rumored that you can no longer gain experience from raids. True?

BC quest gear better than T1? (Its been so long, but I seem to think this IS the case)

Unless you intend to keep the 60s at that level or are somehow limited to classic content on that accounts its not worth it. BC quest gear is better especially if you take the time to unlock the hellfire dungeon quests.

That being said I did it for fun with my bear + 4 ele shams team back when they hit 85 and were still in cata greens and I had a blast. Accidently pulled the first boss while still fiddling with the last group of corehounds and he died long before I managed to kill the hounds quick enough to not resurrect each other (all 5 basically out of mana and just meleeing). It was like wtf - 360k life patrol? Cant be the boss just whack it...

I've done Molten Core 39 weeks in a row now, sometimes several times a week, and I have yet to complete a single legendary.

I've gotten the Garr binding 3 times on the same character, Geddon binding on a different character, and have never in my WoW experience (since vanilla) seen Ragnaros drop the Eye of Sulfuras.

I'm about ready to give up on it.

Also, at worst, you could just turn off your XP while doing it.

YA, im not too concerned about the gear really, nor the legendary's... i mean i wont ignore that I got a chance at them, but thats not the point.... its more of, the exp. Is it worth it? or should I just continue to burn through quests in outlands and do the outlands dungeons?

Raid exp used to be very low, and I think you don't get any at all anymore. I know that while leveling in BGs, I would often see a message like "NPC dies, you gain 25 experience (-25 raid penalty)." That said, MC can be cleared pretty fast by a group of 85s. I used to do it in under an hour with my shaman/4 hunters, and I never particularly rushed it. They nerfed the gold drop from bosses but it's still a decent haul for the time spent.

Just as Tonuss said, raids were never a viable place to level... ever. Since the beginning of the game raid
parties have given greatly reduced XP as in like... single digits.

I ran MC all the time and will continue once I start 10boxing again (not that you need 10 to box it, just goes faster).

I so far have one legendary ingredient (not sure what it's for) and a couple t1 sets complete. Looking to collect full t1 for all my classes.

I find it fun and refreshing to run that instance every week.

Hmmm... I cant believe how terribly I missed this issue about low exp in Raids. Granted its been since MC that I have actually NOT had a max level toon raiding in something.. but im astounded that a more difficult heroic dungeon, aka Raid, wouldnt yield more exp. Anyone else think this is a fail formula?

We grind out dungeon after dungeon after dungeon to earn points, in an effort to buy gear. What if we just grind in the low level raid, and get the gear and exp to help propell us faster to end game content. Hell they preach they want more players experience... BLAH!!! im preaching.

Tl;dr = that sucks.

I had some luck one day, one binding and the eye dropped in one run. Few weeks later I got the second binding. Completed both weapons within a few seconds of eachother. Real nice eyecandy :-)

Right now, I'm soloing WoW and in the process of leveling up my Rogue, DK, and Warrior and turning off xp at lvl 80 on all of them. I'm there now on my Rogue and getting him the best possible gear available to him to be a twinked 80 for random LK heroics/raids, about halfway there now on gear, just need to hit up the ICC 25 heroics for the rest. When I'm done with my Warrior doing this, I'll be taking him through MC to farm for the Hammer of Rag and Shadowmourne so I can Dual-wield them with Titan Grip. It'll take me a very long time, but it's just one goal I've set my sights on. Even if at 80-85 the two will do no good, the sight of walking around SW with both will be something I'm looking forward to. :D Even if the xp will do no good in there, the drops will net you a good size of money on the AH from the Ingots and Blood of the Mountain, which is worth more since they have a lower drop rate. Just be sure to bring a miner in there as well because there and BRD are the only two places to farm or mine for Dark Iron Ore now and they are pricey on Earthen Ring server and are needed for the Hammer.

My server, Ingots will get you roughly 1k each, BotM 1500 each, DI ore about 10-30g each, the essence of fire, less than 1g each, and cores, fiery and lava both, less than one gold each also since they drop in abundance. Takes time to grind out the rep tho, but still worth it imo, but not for the xp.

..update. and the answer is. Definitely not worth the time for the legendary, definitely not worth the time for experience. Only if youre interested in obtaining the T1 gear for nostalgic reasons...

I do need to go back to outlands and get anohter piece of Quest gear and see if I immediately replace it. I seem to recall when BC first came out, I replaced my T2 gear straight away with a green from killing a hellfire boar.

It's a decent cash farm, although with Cata dailies x4 or x5 even that isn't so good anymore. The gold drops from bosses were nerfed but they still drop around 40-50 gold each and you can run right past most of the trash (or, if it aggros, you can flatten them very quickly). I did it the other day in around 50 minutes or so and I could probably cut that down by a good 10 minutes or more.

But I agree that it's not worthwhile for the legendary weapon (go farm Illidan/Kil'Jaeden, IMO) or for gearing up alts. The item level of MC drops is 66-78. The item level of quest rewards in Hellfire Peninsula is 81-93. It's been a while, but I can still remember how crazy it was when I got into the BC beta and saw how fast gear was made obsolete.

Tho if you want to go after the achievement, I'd imagine later grinding all the old raid bosses each week would make this faster to get. Just wish they'd add a title or some reward to getting that one, or add another after that one that requires double the loot that gives the award. Couldn't find a way to link directly to this guy's post, so here is a recent one that might still work and reward the amounts he's listed:

Classic:

Molten Core (http://www.wowhead.com/zone=2717) (10/10) 320g
Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (http://www.wowhead.com/zone=3429) (6/6) 180g
Temple of Ahn'Qiraj (http://www.wowhead.com/zone=3428) (4/9 clearing up to Twins, skipping optional bosses) 260g

TBC:

Serpentshrine Cavern (http://www.wowhead.com/zone=3607) (5/6) 1250g
The Eye (http://www.wowhead.com/zone=3845) (3/4) 750g
Magtheridon's Lair (http://www.wowhead.com/zone=3836) (1/1) 50g

WotLK:

Naxxramas (http://www.wowhead.com/zone=3456) (4/15 clearing Sapphiron and The Plague Quarter) 650g

Total Gold: 3460g

All excluded bosses are generally not worth the effort. AQ20 Can be done 2x a week for an additional 180g. BWL is skipped because while Razorgore is soloable it is difficult to do and is cheating.

Might be worth grinding out for gold atleast. Chance for rare mounts is also a plus for AQ and TE.

I tried BT last weekend. I was able just to power through it with 4 DK 1 Paladin. I think the bosses were dropping 250g each. Plus a chance at some glavies :D

I did BWL some months ago with a PUG group of 60s. It was Horrible... HORRIBLE! So many new players cant follow instructions or want to do any strategy, and seem to EXPECT to just roll shit anymore. So, I kicked everyone, and got 4 of my 60s and one 85 priest, that was "meh", geared.

I sruggled with how to do this boss for a while, till I finally closed one ISBoxer Client window, and simply opened WoW from the desktop. Since it was not "unlinked", I could window swap and not have the group run to the new leader every time. Worked great. One 60 did the MC, and more or less just melee'd the eggs, while the 85 and the rest, kept the adds off.

I have to say though, I wont be going back, simply because of the damn trap room. Jesus that was a friggin mess to deal with.

Every time I get home from work up north, I do most of the old school raids (Funwell, BT, MH, MC, BWL, OS, Maly). Mainly for mounts, legendaries and gearing up twinks. Takes me about 4 hours total on my Pally+4sham team.

Got 3 eyes, 2x TF for my mate, 3 bows from funwell and 1 set of glaives.

Just checked my shammy and Rag kills is 52, other raids are much less though.

Heh, they get ripped either way. When they updated Naxx for level 80 people were ripping them for removing the old dungeon.

I don't know how well it would work (and I know that they would be ripped for "rehashing content") but it'd be nice to see an heroic version of MC some day. Or to really think crazy, imagine heroic MC where the bosses and abilities are the same but just scaled for new levels, and "super-extra heroic with chili on top" MC where the bosses had new abilities and maybe new adds.

They certainly don't make them like MC anymore, though. MC was, for the most part, a pretty small and pretty open dungeon with a high trash density. Now they're much more compartmentalized and linear. Same with dungeons.

I agree. I fail to understand how they can make a Regular dungeon, and a Heroic mode... 10 man mode, 10 man Heroic, 25 man, and 25 man Heroic mode, and NOT make a level 60 dungeon mode, and a level 80-85 dungeon mode. Its rediculous of how much time is spent designing the content... just to let it sit until some paladin decides to steam roll everything for 400g. lame.
