View Full Version : Single Boxing is cheating

I am getting tired of always being called a cheater, and to get a life. But when you think of it, single boxing is a crutch and should be ENDED.
I started a post on US forums expressing why single boxing should end.

One reason I love the multiboxing community is that they are by and large a more intelligent pool of people. Boxers usually take the higher road when it comes to the boxing debate and - especially since at it's core multiboxing is heavily misunderstood - a lot of "Bot" name calling need to be taken lightly.
I think aside from monetary gain, I think one reason Blizzard lets multiboxing go on is because the community has been very communicative, friendly, and self-regulating.
Trolling "single boxers" is not the way to go - even if it's just an attempt to be funny. Just my opinion of course.
Edit: - I did find the Skype / Vent response pretty funny.

I got a good laugh :)

I agree. We've got enough issues with the ignorant ranter single boxer. Eventually Blizz is going to put an end to MB. I see it coming. not anytime soon. But I see it. I just dont see that thread going to end well. Its no different than doin the "nah nah nah boo boo" dance in front of the opressed, and blizzard may see it also as arrogance.
I think the point of being funny... this post wouldve been fantastic as a response to the ignorant rant... not start out mockingly.
Oh well. Too late now I guess. :/

The point of the post is working as intended. People are now posting in a manner mockingly about how stupid some peoples arguements about what we do is.

Seems to me the smart thing for Blizzard to do would be something that informs people.
If you start more than one account you should have the option of a <multiboxer> tag under your chars name. This would clearly define us as legitimate players, and the tag can be explained in a tooltip.
Thus ending confusion and Blizzard gets to keep us sending them more money.

Something like that would be cool. Or even just a feat of strength that pronounces us multiboxer would be awesome, but if we got anything ingame that a single boxer didnt get, a full fledged RIOT would ensue. awesome idea though. i would like to see bilzzard incorporate Lax's software RIGHT INTO THE CLIENT! then charge a like 4$ a month fee to use their premium MB feature

I lol'd. Its better than the usual "get rid of multibox" thread that has no base. When you read those threads, you realize that the anti-boxing community is actually very small. Lots of people who don't multibox often put them in their place before we can :P

I think that they'll only ever consider this if multiboxing somehow 'breaks' the game in a manner that they cannot fix, or if it becomes a problem in some way that we haven't foreseen. It would not surprise me if a number of Blizzard employees do it from time to time, I know that at least one or two of them dual-boxed (or more) in EQ. When they say that they consider multiboxing to be a legitimate play style, they are being 100% honest. They have gone out on a limb to explicitly state that it is okay, that the software that we use is okay, and that players who get thrashed by a multiboxer simply need to man up and learn to play.
I think that people make too much of that "we tolerate it for now" message that was posted some time back by a blue. That is just the result of Blizzard learning to never say "never" after they changed their stance on some issues. Sure, they could decide to forbid multiboxing at some point, but it would have to be for some kind of extraordinary circumstance. They would not simply say "well, we don't like it" or "multiboxers are acting like jackasses in the forum." I think that the worst that they'll ever do is to try to break any combos that work too well by limiting the way certain abilities stack (which they've done before with shaman totems, I believe) or the way they work (like they did with tremor totem).
I won't ever encourage anyone to antagonize other players unless provoked. But I don't think that this hurts us, just as I don't think that the many complainer topics hurts or helps. They do provide some entertainment, and occasionally the opportunity to aggravate some dolt who desperately deserves it.

Haha I actually considered renaming my guild to <Multiboxer>, <Multiboxing is legit> or something alike ;) but it would probably just piss people.

Totally agree!
I actually liked all your post, but wanted to point out this too...
This is my take exactly. I dont believe they would arbitrarily circumcise us all out of a pissin contest or the few "poke you in the eye, and kick your shins while youre down" threads, I guess to be more blunt. I was trying to say "How is this helpful?"
Personally, Id rather continue to educate people, rather than put a finger in their cupcake and tell em to eat it and stfu.

I don't ever come out and tell off people or anything like that. When I box I try and educate and answer any and all questions. The post I made on the forums was in conjunction to a topic that stated the exact opposite of my post. I made sure to post on my toon that does not multibox, and is in a PvP guild. It was a bit of a risk, as trolls and flames are abundant on the forums, but the point of the post struck home and it went exactly as planned. People saw the pure irony and posted the same insane assumptions about singleboxing that multiboxers are subjected to.
Was I out of line? Probably.
Should I have just ignored the intitial post that inspired me? Yeah
I posted here the thread so people could see that people jump to our defense not only when we are under attack, but when we make a stand no matter how half assed it is. Luckily, 95% of the PvP forum had no idea what the post was about haha.
I welcome any and all criticism, and honestly, I wouldn't post anything that would actually harm or be detrimental to our community. The jist wasn't to be confrontational and attack singleboxers, but to show that "see, I can make retarded assumptions and gather a following of mouth breathers too". Just my nature to confront people with irony and sarcasm.

Your point isn't lost on me, for what that's worth.
Should blizzard take any action towards multiboxers you might suffer some fingerpointing so I hope you're prepared for that (even though I'm confident it would be a coincidence).

Yeah, it is impossible that my thread would cause action against MB. And I know some would point the finger, doesn't bother me any. It's more of a civil legality issue on why they wont do anything against MB'ers. The only thing that they can ding you on is if the program you use is automating the playing. The whole MMOGlider suit sealed the deal for us with the licensing and control of accounts and clients. They literally cannot make it against the ToS to play multiple accounts at once unless they make it against the terms to own more than one account, and no way in hell they will do that.

They could definitely figure out if a person was multiboxing or not (after all, players can figure it out most of the time just via observation). So if Blizzard wanted to forbid it, they could. People would still need to report it and they'd still need to investigate it, but just announcing it would probably get most of us to stop.
I get the impression that multiboxing is becoming more acceptable to game developers. WoW has shown that allowing it doesn't harm the game. Sure, some people will complain, but way more people complain about other things that they feel are unfair or wrong, and Blizzard ignores them. Game developers are happy to allow play styles that will bring in players without causing other players to leave. And despite the complaints, the people who gripe about multiboxing do not cancel their accounts.
I just ignore the people who try to complain or flame me in the game, and from time to time I enjoy antagonizing the ones who complain on the forums. The whole debate over multiboxing is long over, and we won. So if someone wants to make the same dumb thread again, I reserve the right to poke them with a sharp stick. :D

You generally can't report someone like that, unless they use vulgarity or break the ToS language wise. Just put them on ignore. If they make a new toon or hop on an alt and continue to harass you, then that is definitely reportable!

In Rift I had some guy/gal follow me for 1 1/2 hours as i went about my business.
He was recording me as he would use /say to annotate something about my behavior or whatever else he didn't like.
After an hour I had to go and give some meds to my son, so, I told them so and that i would be back on in 10 minutes or so.
I logged out all 5 characters and then came back after about 15 minutes and started playing again. low and behold this guy found me again and after another 15 monutes of him /follow ' ing me I reported him for it.
About 15 minutes after ( this bring us to him following me 1 1/2 hours ) my ticket was updated with "We hope you have solved you problem satisfactorily ..." couple minutes later the guy said good and sorry to have bothered you.
it was a moment I shall treasure
