I have a 5 box team with a paladin tank and 4 shamen. All the chars are now lv 42 and I just tried ZF in Tanaris. I was surprised at how tough it was for my team. SM is now far too easy and low level, ZF is a bit too hard for 1 or 2 more levels.

I did all the quests I could do in Gagestan already - the rest are collection quests. Where can I go at this level for good quest xp until I am ready to try ZF again?

One thing to watch out for in Ulda is the Stone Golems that can really tie up a group. I had a run wipe even with my 70 Mage when one of the golems managed to lock him down long enough to even take the mage down. Those things can be a bear.

The other hard part of Ulda is it has a lot of twist and turns. /follow can get pulled off a lot so you may want to watch for that.

Do the collection quests. The ones in Tanaris aren't that bad drop-wise, even the water pouch one, and not only will you get the quest exp for it, but the extra mobs killed result in not only more exp grinded with an actual goal/reason, but also more money/drops to sell making you richer in the process ;p I skipped very few collection quests lvling up and I was always ahead of the curve levelwise, I didn't even have to touch ZF till 47 and didn't run SM after 40, ran purely on quests lol

low 40's can be a bitch trying to find a place to level. Ferelas should have some quests for you, hinterlands, swamp of sorrows, not sure about azshara but there might be some there also. At around 45 or so it gets better again, you start having more places open up to you.

So, go wild there, knowing you can trade them to your alts instead of looting with them.

My shaman aren't 45 yet, but when I PLed my druid, I took him to 45 in SM cath, still getting decent XP.

Keep in mind the XP you gain per kill actually goes up as you level, because you are receiving less of a penalty for having a 70 in with you. If you don't have a 70 GG, I bet you get a ton per kill. If you don't want to do ulda, just do SM till 45 then try ZF again.

I'm alliance, so some of this won't matter, perhaps most, if you're horde.

I did Ulda twice, got the drops on the tank REvelosh's boots. Weird kinda, first was of the boar or something. But those were the first plate boots I could get. Next run, the same boots, but they had +10 sta, +4 sta +def. Weird to see that drop with that stat setup. I think I gained a couple levels doing badlands, after boring of SM, so I was 44 or so when I did Ulda. Did it both times, nice exp. I didn't find any part serious trouble. The ancient stone keeper proved troublesome, as there were pats I was unprepared for. ANd I'm not good at watching the tanks health. I didn't find any mob or group any serious difficulty. Even the locking mobs weren't anything that slowed me down. I didn't even know they were a trouble (or supposed to be) til I read some of these posts

If you don't want to do Ulda, RFD is about the equivalent. Tho it's so out of the way, I really don't enjoy it. But you can tank up to the spider boss, and just farm him til your pally chest drops chest of tuten'kash or w/e. Since, you're doing it w/o a 70 (if you are) you won't hit the instance cap on resets. Since the chest seems to drop more readily, and the length of time to kill to him is over 15 min on average. And RFD has an outside the instance pickup kill quest. If ally, bring the light (prolly a horde version?). I could not do the pickup instance escort quest. So I just let it be lost to me. I couldn't keep enough aggro, and heal enough, or kill fast enough to survive the too many spawns on it. I nearly made it, and at now 47 it could turn out easier, but meh. So there's as many as 4 non-collection quests available to you there. Any cooks and alchemist, should speak to the one npc, he teaches one cooking and one alch recipe, something for those interested in the freebies, even if they'll not use them

While Ulda has many, many quests. Two require collection to do, badlands reagent run, then ulda reagent run. If an alch is with you, ulda reagent run two. I found an awesome Ulda walkthrough wowwiki.com/uldaman.

Even at 42, you can do all of Hinterlands. While at 42 and solo, I find skulk rock cleanup too difficult, as the mobs are 48/49 and really nigh impossible. The focus fire should overcome the level difference.

Feralas has so many quests. Incl the 'hidden' faerie dragon quest. With an engineer, you'd at least want that one to do the coastline goblin quest, but the water ele's are so reluctant to drop their items, that would be the only case to even mess with him. Assuming you're any sort of prof completionist, the snakeburst firework is only available to the toon that does the reagent collection prequest. As it bop's. Plus the escort quest is cake with a multiboxer, over by the yeti's, which you should be killing even if just to get that drop quest, I believe, IIRC. And the higher level yeti's north of the first yeti cave drops a pristine yeti hide quest. If I remember rightly, my mage did it once, then while boosting my first shammy was eligible to pick it up again. Anyone else confirm on the duplicate pristine yeti quest as repeatable?
