Hey guys!
I'm in desperate need of help.
I just got back into multiboxing again (5-boxing) and wanted to setup Grid that I have seen in several multiboxing videos.
But I can't get it to work at all. I have admittedly never used Grid before, but it's extremely confusing to me and I can't find the "Custom Layouts" button that is supposed to be there (I have downloaded the GridCustomLayouts addon, it says "Out of Date" though but I'm still loading it).
This was the case when I tried using Shadowed Unit Frames (or whatever the name is) as well, no one commenting on the addon (fresh comments as well) seemed to have any problems, but I couldn't access the config menu because that part of the adddon was out of date.
With Vuhdo it took me about 10-20 seconds to understand how to create different panels (something I have no idea how to do in Grid) and getting it working the way I wanted to, but of course it doesn't offer me the option to setup a special panel with just my team in it, which is very important and seems to work wonders for so many others with Grid.
So yeah, I'm basically on my hands and knees here, ready to rip all of my hair off of my head soon enough...

I don't know why your Grid and GridCustomLayouts are showing as Out of Date, mine are not. I don't know
where you downloaded them from but I use www.wowace.com (http://www.wowace.com).
As for examples on how to order your teams, I don't have any right at the moment. The GridCustomLayouts
addon page on WoWAce gives examples of what you can use to help order your characters. There must be 50
posts within the first 10 pages of this forum that include Ualaa or someone else stating what they use or how
they use GridCustomLayouts.

Load both addons
Open up grid in game by right clicking the icon on the mini map.
Click the Custom Grid layout button on the top of the page.
In that box start listing all your toons. For example
Toona,Toonb,Toonc,Toond,Toone,Toonf,
Capitalize first Initial and put a comma with no space between.
Make a huge list of all your toons, this will load on every team you have so make sure you put in any that you are wanting to play. Or just add them later. Hit Save.
Copy and paste into your alts windows in the same custom grid layout box.
Now go into the Grid Layout settings and you will see 5 player group, Raid group, 40 man group and etc. change those to the new Custom Layout you named and you'll be ready to go.
I saw this just yesterday. Curse.com shows the latest update for GridCustomLayouts to be 4.06? Instead of 4.11
something like that. At work, I cant exactly check the numbers. But I noticed it too. Just ensure your items are up to date from curse, (if you use curse), then choose the "out of date" option, from the ADDONs page.

Fenril & Oatboat:
Thank you for your replies. My problem however isn't with setting up my team in Grid right now, it's that I can't get that far. I load both addons but I have no "Custom Layouts" button in my Grid GUI.
I think things would become a lot more clear to me if I could get that to work.
I've downloaded and re-downloaded both addons from Curse, wowace and some other site; GridCustomLayouts is out of date for me from all of them. I choose "load out of date addons" but to no avail.
I have a knack for experiencing problems no one else is.. if only I could monetize that talent somehow..
Did you delete them from the addons folder before you put in new ones?

I did a fresh install just because I've exhausted all other options the past two days now; and it seemed to work!
GridCustomLayouts is still out of date, but now when I load out of date addons I get the Custom Layouts button in the UI (and as seen on Fenril's picture; it's huge, so no I didn't just miss it).
Appearantly I have to pick "load out of date addons" everytime I login now(?), wasn't the case last time I played WoW (over a year ago though), but since it works now I don't really care.
Thanks for trying to help me guys! Been reinstalling Grid & GridCustomLayouts, as well as trying other addons, like a mad man the last two days.

If you log out correctly you shouldnt have to load out of date addons everytime.

Grid Custom Layouts has had a 4.1 fix for quite some time.
It was less than a week after 4.1 that the fix came out.
http://www.dual-boxing.com/showthread.php?t=42980
You can go with Healbot or Vuhdo as stand alone addons.
If you go with Grid, you'll also need Grid Custom Layouts and Clique.
Pick the one (Grid, Healbot or Vuhdo) that graphically is the best looking for you.
Functionally, they are the same.
I like to have the frames relatively small.
But to display the entire raid.
And to have my toons always in the left column.
I accomplish this with this custom layout:
ToonA,ToonB,ToonC,ToonD,ToonE;NAME
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8;5/8;NAME;NR
I actually list 37 names on line one.
It is Name comma Name comma Name.
No spaces anywhere.
Then semi-colon and NAME is caps.
Because there are two lines, line one is column one.
Line two denotes showing toons from groups 1-8.
There are five rows deep and eight columns across (that's the 5/8).
NAME again is an alphabetical sort.
And the NR means No Repeating.
Basically if a name already appears in the grid (such as my five current toons, in column one) then those names will not appear elsewhere, even if BG placed four of my toons in Group 1 and the last toon in Group 2.

Oatboat:
Thanks! Got it sorted now, guess I was too impatient to logout normally.
Ualaa:
Thank you!
After I got GridCustomLayouts to work properly your custom layout setup made more a lot more sense (saw it on some other forum, I believe, when googling).
And thanks for explaining the details, extremely helpful!
