With the continued popularity of the Dungeon Finder, many players have been asking for a way to group up with real-life friends who play on other realms to take on instances together. Today, we wanted to give you a heads up about a new feature currently in development that will allow players to invite Real ID friends ( http://us.battle.net/en/realid/ ) of the same faction to a party regardless of the realm they play on, and then queue up for a 5-player regular or Heroic dungeon.
As this is a fairly complex service to develop, we don’t have a release date to share quite yet. It’s important to note that as with some of the other convenience- and connectivity-oriented features we offer, certain elements of the cross-realm Real ID party system will be premium-based, though only the player sending the invitations will need to have access to the premium service. We'll have more details to share with you as development progresses -- in the meantime, you may begin to see elements of the feature appear on the World of Warcraft PTR.

Provided you have your accounts on different battlenets, this could open up some possibilities for boxers who are active on different realms.

For me, no pay, work with regular friends also, not just real-id and make a don't group with category in social.

More gold selling from Blizz. $15/month times 11 million is not enough.
Cross-realm? This is one of the reason I am looking foward to Guild Wars 2. GW has no realms. You can port to another server IN-GAME if your friends are on another. Because of World vs. World, GW2 will be segregated into 3 worlds for public pvp.

The news of premium subscription is very old... check the link below for info:
http://potshot.wordpress.com/2009/12/01/blizzard-announces-wow-premium/
The thing is that it's still unknown what exactly you get for the premium services. If you can make characters at 80 I know for a fact I will pay 5 x premium for 1 month and create all the characters I can.
If the feature list differs from the news in the link... we'll have to see.
I don't like the unique epic quest/items as it's too much of a "must have or get behind" type of thing.
I'm not against a premium service as long as it's optional, and feels optional for everyone else. As soon as it becomes a must then people will leave en masse.

Quoted from the author of the article:
Of course, this is a complete fabrication and totally false (as far as I know). I just made it up. Completely. Fiction.

Premium should come with 3x leveling speed like RAF but up to level 80, but must only be available for people with level 85 toons on some server somewhere. That way its not hard to level up a character (or 5) when you decide to join friends on their realm.
However, I have no intention on paying bliz another 5 bucks on top of what I currently pay... its just a bunch of doodad features like iPhone (andriod, google phone, etc...) auction house. Slow as syrup to run especially if you have tons of crap from a bank alt... I tried it when I had the free trial from Mobile Armory. Guild chat too.. well good if I was raiding and I was late coming to a raid or wanting to chat about strategies while on breaks at work, or on my way home and such... Otherwise no need for it. For me anyway.

After that article they came out with that said wow subs were on the decline, and content was rolled out too slow I am surprised they would try and charge for this. I think this would be an excellent way for friends, family, and co-workers who find themselves on different servers with a way to play together, and not have to pay for character transfers. It is my opinion that they should try to slow the loss of subscriptions over developing new charges and fees.
Also if you find that tank, healer or DPS that shines in a random, you can realID them and group again.

wtf. It would be absurd if you had to for any "extra" service. Curious to see how this will work out.
Funny how Rift gives all this stuff away for free. Coin lock system, authenticator, server xfers weekly and soon to be dungeon finder. How about giving somthing to us fo free bliz!

???
Coin lock system
Which is basically the free Dial In Authenticator...
authenticator
Which is free if you own want the phone app. I can't imagine $6.50 for the physical authenticator breaks
anyone's bank around here...
server xfers weekly
To select realms which Blizzard does for free all the time as well when they need to balance populations
soon to be dungeon finder.
The dungeon finder in WoW isn't free?

Sorry Void, I have to laugh at this. For multiboxers who pay for an average of $75 each month... we sure do
expect a lot of things for free.
