Would you (or did you) have the same attitude about multiboxing as some of the idiots you meet if you weren't one?

Fortunately for me I read about it, tried it out, and began embracing multiboxing before encountering a multiboxer in the game. So I never really had the opportunity to WTF a multiboxer before I already knew about it and liked it.

I'm not given (usually) to knee-jerk reactions so I like to think that the first time I would have seen a multiboxer I would have been intrigued rather than jealous.

Edit: oops, meant to post this in General not Beginners.

Not knowing what it was I might assume it was cheating.

Would I harass the person doing it, calling them names, following them around and make a general ass out of myself? No.

I might have reported them.

On a similar vein... with as much as I get called a botter and/or farmer you would think that I would have actually seen one of those in game at some point. But I haven't. Oh I've seen the usual gold spamming bot but I have never seen a bunch of "bots" running around killing mobs. The only ones I have seen sit in IF or SW and spam "buy gold we sell cheap you like".

Has anyone else seen a "real" bot or group of them?

I'll admit...when I actually ran into one ingame at halaa(5 UD spriests named after diseases), I raged a bit...was my first encounter with one and it seemed a bit unfair, bitched a little in general chat with other alliance, then when someone eventually said it was legit and explained it I wasn't so inclined to be angry...plus we eventually managed to conjure up some teamwork, feared 'em, I hurricaned 'em and burnt a couple down while he was regrouping lol

After that even when I ran into and got ganked by a couple sets in Ogrila's bombing quest area I just treated it like a normal gank, seeing if anyone was available to help kill gankers :p Though the first time they came up against us(I think it was Ebola...not sure, whoever it was said later on that their macros weren't setup yet) they lost since we were grouped and had a holy priest dispelling everything his locks threw at us and I hot'd what dmg was done before letting loose hell on 'em with treants and wrath spam lol

i had only seen people doing a drag along heal bot, nothing more... until i put keyclone together.

i got a ton of flak from my victims... which, of course, was my motivator :D

then i ran into my first multi-boxer...
i was stealthed on 10 mage assassins (glass canons) and he had 10 cent-druids with a mino-barb scouting for him.

they ran right into my position, and before i could kill one druid, my whole group was hit with 10 earthquakes.

Several months ago, a guildie called out in guild chat. "There's some hacker botter dude out here ganking me, can someone come help?" He said that these 4 shadowpriests were all clones and took out some highly geared warrior in a matter of seconds. He also said he had reported him. So me and another guy went out to check it out. They were all named similar, but once we figured out who the main was we were able to kill him and the team. He sprit rezed and that was the end of our fun for that situation.

A long time before that, a warrior had ganked me that had a shamy healing him. I could tell it was being controlled by the same guy, and two of us couldn 't kill them. Those two events planted the seeds of curiosity in my head. I asked the question on the forums, If I had a priest and a druid, and wanted to run them together how could I do it, someone pointed me here, and now I'm (slowly) picking it up.

I never felt or thought anything about it other then , if its possible for them, it might be possible for me, if it is possible for me, I wanted to do it.

I ran past Emote's shaman team in IF a few weeks before I found this site. Thought to myself "Third party, nice. Someone should warn him he might get caught" as I ran by, then after I got on the griffon I furthered the thought "Well, he's 70 wearing pretty sweet gear... and he's hanging out in IF in plain sight. Do you really think he needs to be warned?" Never crossed my mind to report him, why would I want to get him in trouble? I figure until blizzard starts cracking down on the constant procession of level 1 lkdsahfyuoas's running around Orgrimmar/Ironforge spamming for wow-toolbox.com, they have no right to go after John Doe and his third party app. Much less now that I know it's perfectly legit.

I 4 boxed in Everquest so I have no problem with it for as long as I've been playing, I started a 2 box in eq probably 7 years ago. To me its always been a cool idea, not needing help for stuff and controlling all the loot. I've never boxed on a pvp server, and doubt i will since I'm not a huge fan of pvp servers in the first place. (I'm a poor sport, hate being messed with)

I've been getting the same error he mentioned (Fatal error: cannot connect to smtp.dual-boxing.com etc) all day, I checked to see if my stuff posted before I posted again though lol

Edit: in fact, I got the error when posting this reply too...lol

I've been playing multiple characters in games since about 1990 (in an old BattleTech MUD) and before that even really, playing multiple characters in pen & paper RPGs (D&D, GURPS)... so I'd like to think I'd have an open mind about it, but hard to say since I've had a multi-character slant since the beginning pretty much.

Same here, Stabface. I've been running multiple accounts since about 9 months after DAoC went live. Granted, back then it was one mouse/kb per account but that was really all you needed with a healer, speedbot, buffer and someone to blow things up. Had I known then what I know now, people would have been PISSED. :P

I've first seen it on youtube and just thought it was the coolest thing. Before this, I was dual-boxing alt-tabing style on my own.

I was open minded and knew that it could be possible and not a hack, so I looked into it, came here and the rest is history.

If I saw it in-game, I would ask how he/she did it and just learn from it. I wouldn't go around harassing people just because I didn't know how it was done.

The first time i saw a shaman using water walking I thought they were hacking (I was alliance obviously) so I probably would have thought they were cheating. Wouldn't have reported them/flamed, but I probably wouldn't have thought it was a legit way to play.

I've still not come across a multi-boxer in game yet, I found out about this site from an article about Xzin, which is what got me interested in it.

I don't think i've ever had the opportunity to WTF a multiboxer. Back many many years ago in EQ I thought to myself.. ya know what.. I have a cleric.. capped out, damn good gear.. I want a beastlord.. LETS ROCK! :) Then on to DAoC and pl'ing people for plat, could pl 1-50 in 1 day back when 50 was the cap. It was only natural to multibox in wow too. Makes things easier, and, I don't play well with others.

If I would see a multiboxer I would yell HACKER in every major city with his name in it, spam trade chat to ask every one to whisper the zomg hacker and report him on all my alts.

After that I would of been kicked because of spamming but man I did sure own him!

ps: when being troubled by some random n00b yelling stuff about me, I put my adds on follow on him, mounted, and he got pissed. Now he looked like a multiboxer wich made him get pretty confused

My first multi-box was actually a horde and alliance character shortly after the game came out. A level 1 gnome and level 1 orc I corpse-dragged to the arena in STV. Most people hadn't even hit 60 yet and this was before people had mods to use 'l33t sp33k' to talk cross faction. I would coordinate fights between players and take bets from spectators. Did it for about a month till a sore loser rogue ruined it by ganking my low level toons constantly and some other players took the operation over. After that I did what alot of multiboxers did back then and just drug a healer behind me(Hunter/Druid) and grinded to 70 and did some battlegrounds. I did some other small combinations of 2-3 after that but didn't do the full five till after Keyclone came out.

I never really thought about it until I started setting up my first team, but I believe that I ran into a 5 man sPriest group in a BG once. I didn't notice their names, but I do remember that they were all in the same guild and were absolutely WRECKING my mage (and the other players in WSG at the time) the just DoTd and ran away... and I was dead.

But I just thought it was a premade, so never even put together that it was a multibox team. I think unless you see one in a city, there is really no way to tell easily, as the odds of running into them in the world is small on most servers. I really don't know how many multiboxers are on my server. but I hope there are more!

/on topic - no i'd never report a boxer and wish I had seen one waaaaaay sooner

/off topic
I can't remember where I got the idea to multibox but it was primitive before I found this sight a few months ago. I was 2 boxing on 2 machines and 2 keyboards a priest/lock from 60-70 out of shear boredom and my friend quit wow. I proved that healing and cursing is definitely possible while drinking in the lower level dungeons in TBC. I was still learning so I only got a few guys who would let both toons in while we all leveled post TBC. I turned to 2 boxing because I got sick of getting off of my alts to use my priest to heal other guildee alts and decided to make 2boxing my fun way to heal.

Then cancelled my buddy's account after deciding to make a few more chars and be able to transfer them if needed. A few months ago I ran in to a mage team in AV that were bungie-cording just like my 2 box set up, although I had never thought to run in PvP after getting totally dismantled in a practice arena. It took me a few months to find this forum after fearbombing that mage team in to digestible pieces for my 2 meat shields, read as happy as shit I'm getting healed in AV warriors.

After ~2hrs of reading this forum I jumped on a private server to see if my machine could handle it. Another 2-4hrs later, I was cursing this whole forum and my confused dog at 10pm on Friday night...I had to wait until 8am to get in to a store to buy 3 more copies because there is no way to buy keys online!!!

...this was the first macro I made that I did not see on the forums or have already from dual boxing:
/r google multibox wow. I play 5 different accounts on 1 computer. cheers

Heh, my first multiboxing encounter was a buddy of mine in SWG. One of his friends started loaning him an account, and then another. At the time, and for several years afterward, I thought man you're crazy but it was nice and convenient when we were out questing. Didn't really think much of it past that.

Never really saw one in WoW that I know of but if I'd seen them in a city I would have been like, 'oh cool that's just like my buddy', and if I'd seen them out in some remote area grinding through mobs I would've been 'farmer!', but I don't think I've ever reported anyone, what's the use?

My transition however has been completely organic, just progressed through a natural series of events.

Leveled a warlock to 60 and spent the next few months LFM. Said forget this I'ma play a priest or a warrior, people always want them in groups. But I'd tried warrior and no heals sucks... played priest but have to stop every mob or 2 to drink.... hrmm... I'll play them together (cause warrior was on wife's account anyhow)!

Got them to 60, then 70.... moved warlock to a new account so I could powerlevel with the priest (infinite mana anyone?). Then a buddy gave me his mage account... well hell, raiding sucks, let's go hardcore 5 boxing, lol.

Well i had no idea about multiboxing but i had 3 accounts and played all in windowed mode and moved the mouse over the screens moving my chars, but then i got kinda tired of changing each time and made some research on the internet and found this site and i just wow :D

And havnt met any boxer yet, but if i do im defo gonna smile :).

And some has said to "WTF" when my 3 dwarfs running on follow :P and some has even said "Damn ill report you" when i take so much mobs that them are getting sad about it :P
