Hoe much DPS are your DKs doing?

So I'm starting to think my burst needs work. I'm averaging 6k dps per DK. I think all of the control I have built into their spam key is dragging down their burst. They are frost spec and dps bar has HB, frost strike, Oblit, and necrotic strike. Now it also has Strangulate and Mind Freeze built in.

Strangulate goes off just after fight starts and gets arena 1-4. Mind Freeze goes off round robin on focus target, staggered by 2.5 seconds. Now my primary target never gets a spell off, so that's good. However I can't kill anyone on double healer teams. It takes about 10 seconds to kill first target and by the strangulate is off and one of the healers can save the day.

Maybe I need to remove all the auto control spells? What is a good dps for a DK on 85 dummy?

I think I was getting about 7.5 - 8K DPS right when I turned 85 on a normal 85 dummy.

Casting Howling Blastx4, Nec. Strikex2 - and that's it. Also summon your pet.

Oh - I also had horn of winter and Might. Might adds about 10% dps.

My tip that i noticed is if u press slow, u get better dps and the characters doesnt run around the target in such big circles, atm im dooing about 2-3 press/second, before i prob managed to do 5-7 presses.

Spam speed does have to do with it, every time you run through them it resets your swing timer (from what i've seen) because you are not facing them. Also it makes sure your priority holds, if you spam the fuck out of a key you could still get extra necrotics instead. (i noticed this most with my warrior, slam is last in his priority list and if you spam too fast you get slam over your mortal strikes (which i have 3 of)

Well, post-patch I've tried out all of the different Frost combos on a single-target level 85 dummy with Horn of Winter and BoK from the Paladin:

DW NS/HB Spam: 12.5k dps
DW Oblit Spam: 13.5k dps
2h Oblit Spam: 13k DPS
2h NS/HB Spam: 12k DPS

Mind you that my DW weapons are only ilevel 353 whereas the 2h'ers I have are ilevel 359. Overall, the max crits for me were (in descending order) DW Oblit, 2h Oblit, 2h NS/HB and then DW NS/HB. The tradeoff in DPS from Oblit to NS/HB is offset by the 30% cast speed reduction on your primary target.

Overall I'd say I prefer the DW NS/HB simply because as soon as you have two targets your DPS increases significantly and it makes hard-swapping simple.

CC issues:
Take 2/2 Endless Winter so your Mind Freeze costs zero RP. It's off the GCD so it's no DPS loss to use it. Then, set up your HB button to look like this:

/cast Howling Blast
/cast [@arena1,exists,nodead] Strangulate

The Strangulate will go off usually on the second or third cast and it is basically no great loss to your DPS.

Also, I recommend setting up a separate button that only does Obliterate and Frost Strike and rotates through Hungering Cold every 3-4 seconds. This will really help against melee teams--You can focus their healer who should be doing zero casting while all of their melee get's CC'd. It's thoughtless and basically no DPS loss.

You should consider making a macro that casts Deathgrip on arena1-4 and then Hungering Cold once or twice.

I'm going to write up a short addendum to the Manifesto about post-patch stuff. Included below is how I setup my DPS rotation:

All of them are three buttons. Each time I press my spacebar down the DK's get F9. When the button is let up it sends Shift F9 and Ctrl F9. The buttons are listed so that the first ability you see is downpress and the others are uplift.

DW Oblit:
Obliterate, Frost Strike, Howling Blast
This rotation will prioritize Obliterate and will use Howling Blast if a) your DK's aren't in melee range, and/or b) if they have no Unholy or Death runes to use Obliterate.

DW NS/HB:
Howling Blast, Frost Strike, Necrotic Strike
It prioritizes Howling Blast and just rapes people.

2h Oblit:
Obliterate, Frost Strike, Howling Blast
This rotation will prioritize Obliterate and will use Howling Blast if a) your DK's aren't in melee range, and/or b) if they have no Unholy or Death runes to use Obliterate.

2h NS/HB:
Howling Blast, Frost Strike, Necrotic Strike
It prioritizes Howling Blast and just rapes people.

Wow I reset talents and changed a few things. The only offensive ability I gained was Endless Winter and my best dps was 13k. WTF, how can one ability change so much? I didnt change any priorities either.

When I play my main DK solo in raids I'm getting 18-20k dps (in my pvp gear).

When I play all 4 Dks I'm getting 10-12k dps on target dummies. I do spam too fast sometimes I'm going to throttle that down and see how it goes. Thinking what twice a second?

Endless winter makes it so that you are not losing a frost strike in order to interupt.

I average 2.5 clicks a second.
Haven't really checked my DPS in a while.
But everything fires off regularly; my DK's don't hoard a lot of Runic Power, and all my Runes are used almost as they become available.

If you check the box, Do Not Advance For At Least.
And fill in a number.
The mapped key won't advance to the next step for that long.
However it will try to execute the current step on each press.

If you were to add a blank step between each existing step.
And have that step not advance for a duration.
That would effectively throttle your spam to a maximum of "x" clicks per "z".

yeah but doubling my dps seems really silly (6k ->13k). I am getting one more frost strike per 10 secs. Does that seem right? I'm leaning towards something being not "max skill level" before I reset my talents.

Frost strikes hit pretty hard, and reset runes. If you are losing out on a frost strike every 10sec over a long period of time that's a lot of missed rune resets and damage.

Frost strike can crit up to 20k.... which is substantial damage, and has a 45% chance to refresh a rune... 2/3 of which can be used for more howling blasts.

You're not just losing 1 Frost strike... You can be losing an obliterate or howling blast on top of the frost strike because of the rune resets.

I did a little testing today.

My DK's are iLV 354.
They have Conquest: Chest, Shoulders, Gloves, and 2H Swords.
Their remaining pieces are Honor.
They have no click trinkets for DPS (Chance on damage +912 Str & PvP Trinket).

I was using only (Team) buffs for these tests.
Specifically: Kings (Pally), Horn of Winter, Flask of Enhancement (Alchemy).
No pets were used, this is straight DK DPS.

Did two of each test, so the average should be decent.
Made sure there were no debuffs on the Target Dummies.
