So I am looking to buy a new mouse. Not really a multi-boxing specific mouse, but just a all around quality gaming mouse, for a decent price (50-75$?)
So I was just wondering who loves their mouse, and what type is it?
I was checking out the G5, 45$ on sale, and looks like a quality mouse.
Anyone have one?

In short.
FUCK LOGITECH.
I don't know why people buy their "gaming" products, in my oppinion they are utter crap. Not to say that the next set of stuff that they bring out will also be, but all their mouses to date have had their asses whipped by a *quality* brand, Razer.
Get yourself a Razer, you won't regret it.

Does that Razer mouse have a 4th and 5th side button? Did not seem like it did.

I can't really fathom the passion here of one mouse brand over the other, and would need an argument a little stronger than 'FUCK LOGITECH' to make me understand.
We're talking about a mouse here people. It points, it clicks... We're also talking about MMORPG's on this site, so how many headshots are we really concerned with? I'd say maybe if you're trying to make a CAL-I clan in Counter-Strike or something then maybe the Razer has features that would be relevant to you, but in WoW or another MMORPG it's just not that important. Go feel one up at a local BestBuy or something and if it feels good and you like the price, get it. I just recently switched to Logitech from Microsoft because I'd mashed button 5 in so many times that it was about to fall off. The only reason I switched was that MS changed their design and the new ones don't feel right to me like their old ones did.
If you're convinced by the elequent arguments above, it looks like Razer has several modes that have dual side buttons which is a minimum requirement to me.

I think that's what I'm going to have to do. Go molest a few mice at my local bestbuy and/or circuit city.
I personally have used logitech for a long time, but I cannot comment on quality becuase other than this current mouse that is starting to die, (the main click button sometimes does not regrister well, and will either double click when I click once, not click at all, or my favorite, stop holding the mouse down when I am still holding the button down.) I have always killed my mice, with apple juice, or from having it for 3+ years and beating the crap out of it.

Heh Heh, maybe he is anti-establishment when it comes to mice.
I tried out the Razer Lachesis a few months ago when it first came out. I'd say it's the most uncomfortable mouse I've ever used, probably due to it's ambidextrious design. The extra side buttons (it has them on both sides of the mouse) were stiff and impossible to press without having a death-grip on the mouse for leverage. The tracking was good, too sensitive at the ridiculous 4000dpi level, but good at 2000. But I just couldn't get over the poor ergonomics. You'll end up with mouse-claw-hand syndrome if you use this thing for extended periods of time. Maybe it's great if your left handed... or if you have a 6th thumb-like appendage on your mousing hand, if not, I'd pass on this one at least.
So far, my favorite is the MX1000, which isn't really sold any longer, or the MX Revolution. You need download uberoptions with the Revolution though. It opens up the logitech software and allows you to actually assign all of the mouse buttons to whatever you like. Apparently Logitech thinks you don't need to, and by default, doesn't allow it.

I'm a cheap bastard and use $10-$20 corded optical mice from Micro Innovations...3 buttons + scroll wheel's all I need. I do however agree SOMEWHAT with Wilbur...Logitech stuff I've bought/used wasn't always too good in quality/broke/or was a pain in the ass to setup and sometimes simply didn't cooperate. Their gamepads(though not JUST theirs) in particular tended to fuck up fast, the analog sticks especially tilting to the left permanently; their webcams go to shit quality pretty quick and their programs to go with most hardware tend to be basic and suck lol
I'd give more advice but I've been using the same brand/setup of mice for years without any issues sans the scroll wheel being uncooperative after having it for a long time.

While I am also cheap, my only thought on your bad experiences with the cheap logitech mice is this, if you buy cheap, do you expect it to be high quality? Not just specifically with mice, but in most all things, I tend to buy the mid range price / quality items because they tend to combine good quality and functionality, with a decent price. Buy cheap, you get cheap stuff.
On the other side of the leaf though, is if you buy cheap logitech and it's crap, but you buy a cheap Microsoft mouse, and it's high quality, then I can see where you are coming from.

Didn't buy logitech mice, I've only ever used Micro Innovations' :p Logitech stuff I've used was headphones/mics/gamepads/webcam(s) and those were mid-range costs, all sucked lol

I like the Logitech MX518 ('http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104178') because it has 8 usable buttons that can all be reassigned to keystrokes. I'd love to replace it with something that slides a little better, but I can't find anything else that I like.

I have a razer copperhead collecting dust in a box, why do they put those buttons so close to the base of the mouse? I now have a logitech G5, the buttons are nicely placed, best mouse I've ever used.

I have a razer copperhead collecting dust in a box, why do they put those buttons so close to the base of the mouse? and what's with that software? Click underneath the mouse to set the mouse into the right mode, then run some software to make the button assignment (or something like that). I understand that they make the process like that so that the button assignment is stored on the mouse, it's a nice idea if you move your mouse to other machines (which I don't) but for me the whole process just seemed an overly complicated user experience in this day and age, I've been in IT for 20 years, if one of my team wrote that I'd be embaressed. I now have a logitech G5, the buttons are nicely placed, the software button assignment is too easy, best mouse I've ever used.
I gotta say I'm behind Wilbur on this one. Logitech has always made decent products though, it's just that lately (and especially with Vista) their drivers have been a horrible, horrible, horrible mess. I have always been very serious about mice (used to play quite alot quake/qw around 1997-2001). I even ordered the first Razer "Boomslang" 1000 dpi back in the day, and with shipping half way around the world, customs and all that shit, it was pretty expensive to put it bluntly. The reason why I've used Logitech products is because until recently they've been the only alternative with multiple programmable buttons. My view on the matter is that you should always keep your hand on the mouse, but you don't really have alot of buttons, and so most of your fingers just rest there unused, while your left hand is working overtime on a million keybinds. Back with Quake you could instaswap weapons and fire them immediately (through scripts), so it was pretty popular to bind a key to a script that both swapped weapons and fired them at the same time. One day I got a Logitech Mouseman with 6 buttons if I remember correctly, and with that mouse I could program direct fire with 5 different weapons directly to the mousebuttons (one reserved for jumping) freeing my left hand up to soleley focus on movement, tricking, dodging, bunnyjumping etc. Since then I've just wanted more and more buttons on the mouse, but there hasn't been many other products other than Logitech with this feature. Nowadays I'd reccommend Razer, and I will invest in one or more myself. I'd give Logitech products 9/10 score, and their drivers a -10/10 score, ending up at a total of -1 point.
Then theres another problem on Vista, and really...Vista has been out for over a year, you'd think that a company with income like Logitech would have a solution out by now. You'd think... I've no idea what the problem is (and neither do you, so don't come suggesting shit like updating drivers and that kinda drivel), but while pressing some buttons, or combinations of buttons (on the mouse) while moving the mouse will cause some strange movement to occur. It's almost as if the cursor gets reset to some position on the monitor, and starts the move from that location. Extremely annoying.
Binding ALT to one of my mousebuttons (one of the thumb buttons) is something I've been doing for years. This allows me to have virtually 2 keyboards under my left hand, almost doubling the amount of functions I can activate, simply by holding down the thumb button on the mouse. This of course recently got broken in the Logitech drivers. So I had to work for hours to find a workaround (it seems Alt+tilde works, since the tilde key normally doesn't do anything). I'm just fed up with Logitech. It's all about money for them now. Back in the old days it was about gaming, breaking into new territory...now they're just pissing on the customers, since they're making money anyway.
Edit: Appoligies for the double posts. I'm at work, and these computers need to be put out of their misery, along with the streamed internet connection, controlled by this communist nazi government. (Can you tell I'm aggravated?)

I am afraid I am definitely on the Logitech side of this discussion. I have mice, headphones, webcams, keyboard all logitech, all doing a very good job... yes there are some limitations in some of the software (G15 keybindings) but nothing that is a show stopper and the quality is very good.

I went with the G5, and I love everything but the thumb button placement. I personally like the copperhead style thumb buttons more. Though I am lovin the G5 atm. I think it just comes down to anatomy / personal preferences. I mean, they made it so you can add weight to the G5, but who the fuck wants their mouse to weigh more than it has to? Seems odd to me :( Though I pick up the mouse when I am doing large turns, and at times in FPSs.
