I have been tinkering with turning the rogue in my trio in to an off tank for dungeons.
AI am at level 26 so I was thinking 26 Riftstalker / 8 Nightblade and 0 Assassin or Ranger.
Basically it comes down to which is better out of the pet pig or Virulent Poison (20% poison proc on weapons).
Which would you choose?

I'd go for ranger. DPS gain may not be as high as the virulent poison, but you'll get far more utility in being able to handle more adds, distract MOBs to harvest crafting mats, higher chances of tags on Planar MOBs spawning from Rifts, etc.
Also you'll get Ranged Mastery as a passive skill, which will kick in if you have any skills that work from range. It will then use your ranged weapon damage as basis for those abilities (and in general your ranged weapon damage will be higher), along with auto-enabling ranged auto-attack on a ranged skill use. (Marksman will also provide this benefit).

its very situational and remember you can change those with 0 points at any time
if you need pig to offtank just throw on ranger, if you are just straight up tanking then go assassin for poison

u should never really need an offtank in any 5 man instance if ur needing an off tank ur doing something wrong. at most u need a healer and a support like archon/chloro most of hte lower instances got a way with just using 1 tank 3 dps and 1 heals once i hit FC i started using a chloro/archon and cleric worked out alot. all the tank classes have abilties to handle more then one target.
Off-tank is nice in Iron Tombs for first boss, Caor Ashstone, so you can reset the stacking debuff. But the zero point Ranger pet has no taunt. Other than that, I agree that having a backup healer is a better option.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like Ranger is the best bet. Also good tip on the 0 point classes being able to be changed, that is really handy!

You might have missed the bit where I am playing a trio.

I am trying to do the quest The Coup in RotF. The first mob comes with about 30 archers that quickly devastate my cleric as the tank can't grab all the agro. With 2 tanks I should be able to get most of the agro so the cleric can get on with healing.

Do you have a warrior? cause warrior has aoe dots that hit all the mobs in a 20m range so very easy to pick them all up.

I have a warrior as main tank, he is Paly/Reaver and I have that ability from both lines. It doesn't hit all the mobs, it only hits 10 and is on a 1 minute timer (also not a dot if I remember correctly, maybe we aren't talking the same ability). As I have 2 of them I can potentially hit 20 mobs (unlikely though as there would be overlap between the 2 abilities), that still leaves 10 archers to turn my cleric in to a pincushion.

Reaver has a skill that is called plague bringer it makes all your dots aoe 20m radius from your target and 2 of them are ranged.

In expert he has a party wide stacking debuff that can be los off. The big problem is a 2nd debuff he puts on the tank it quickly will destory him if it gets up around 3 but it can be dispelled for that fight I put dispell in to my healers rotation and chlorfo it is never on more then 1
