Not too bad, bout 4.5 days played so far and all tradeskills but herb at about 150. Going to go try SM tomorrow for the first time since I could use some of the upgrades and be nice to do the quests before they turn grey, plus the mages need a library book before I head back to theramore and it's next zone in the guide.

Any opinions on which is the better way to roll?..I'm leaning towards picture A

Grats man.

But 4.5 days to hit 40? Why so long?

Grats man.

But 4.5 days to hit 40? Why so long?

Few reasons really.

1. Not boosting :)
2. Leveling via quests rather than instances, only doing instances once or twice as I get to an appropriate time to do them
3. Leveling every tradeskill as I go
4. Wasting about 5 hours running Gnomergan to do some yellow/orange quests while all the mobs were grey
5. Working on macro's and getting n52/G15 to interact with the game as well as possible
6. Learning skills of classes I haven't played before, such as when to worry about using counterspell, etc
7. Having fun :)

Mainly this group was created for running instances and farming badges/mining/herbing for a long time at 70 so I'm in no real rush yet to get there, I'd rather take my time to learn how to operate them effectively as a team now when it hurts me less than in the furture where repair costs and time lost become a bigger factor.

Glad I could help out :)

And yes, Sm was not too bad though also not the cakewalk mentioned above :p Almost wiped to Doan as I forgot about his ae, and then managed to wipe 3 times in the cathedral due to just bad pulls, no backup melee for when MT dies and my sheep macro's still not fully working yet but I still managed to 1-shot all bosses and get pretty much the worst loot off each of their loot tables so going back today.

One thing did get reinforced to me though with getting to SM, and that is how much bullshit it is to have one full instance pretty much off limits to characters at the correct level range to use it. Having alliance have to try to go through the Bulwark and it's level 50+ mobs to get to SM is a total joke given horde have no such limitations for any other instances in the overworld and one of the main reasons I spend almost 0 time in that place except once level 60+ for farming.

SM for Alliance is like Deadmines for Horde, really. Also for Alliance getting to SM you don't have to go through WPL / Bulwark, it's a bit longer run but you can either head west from Southshore and go north through Tirisfal and all the mobs are L30 or below, or straight go north through Hillsbrad/Alterac and swim (waterwalk 4tw) the lake south-west of Undercity where you have some mid-high 30's mobs to avoid. I've ran several groups of L20 characters all the way there without any issues, it's a bit of a hike but no real danger.

However, thanks to the joy of having 5 accounts and therefore 50 character slots, I now have a L20 warlock with bags full of soul shards and 2 alts parked at the SM summoning stone. :)

Someone once did a comparison of all the zones & instances and how easy/difficult it is for Alliance and Horde to get there, they are actually about even all things considered.

It's not quite the same, because Alliance have several quests that send them to SM. Horde have no quests to do Deadmines. Horde have 1 quest in Gnomeregan, which they can teleport to from Booty Bay. My 3x Shaman are at 34 right now, and I'm dreading the walk to SM :(.

I'd like to see this list, because after rolling my first Alliance toon and raiding with it after raiding on 3 Horde ones, all I can say is OMG Alliance has it easy. Ony key quest was a joke for Alliance and it doesn't take 10 minutes to get to MC/BWL.

Go with the elephant, I don't think any race looks good on a horse ;).

I was just talking to Suvega about how, even on a PvP server, horde can instance level 8-45 without ever hitting a PvP flagged area. (WC, SFK, RFK, SM, RFD)

Alliance get Deadmines, Stockades, and Gnomer, which will (at max) get you to level 33.

Contested: BFD, Ulda, and onwards (ZF, temple, etc)

Horde have it way better for instance leveling and/or powerleveling (boosting). Having to traverse into horde territory to make up for the instance level gap, and finding your lowbie self camped at the meeting stone by a level 70 powerleveler... it really, really sucks.

As I posted on my blog, thanks for this tip. In all the time I've been playing (since initial release) I have never thought of doing that since the map shows Undercity covering the gap north so I usually go up through WPL and Bullwark, hence I almost never go to SM.

Now I know about this though I'll take back most of my complaints about SM and it's unfairness vs what Horde have, so thanks Stabby...seems one truely can learn something knew every day :D
