In your opinion what was the most broken OP class you have ever played or heard of? I'm asking because some guy is claiming Rifts pyro is the clear choice and I don't agree. I remember some times in WoW with some ridiculous stuff but I'm having trouble recalling. I believe there was a class in Conan (or War?) that oneshot people with no charge up.

Anyways Pyros can currently one shot people IF they have 100 energy and have a certain buff, but they must recharge energy to do it again, which takes time. They are being nerfed so it's moot, but Im curious what has been the most OP.

Our fire mage yesterday who did 6,5milion damage over the course of 11 seconds, leading to the epic vent conversation:

- raid leader: "start cleaving"
... 11 seconds later mage needs to iceblock and dies afterwards
- raid leader: 'watch your fucking threat, don't you have omen?'
- fire mage: 'yeah but this was just a cooldown'

How did he do that much damage? Also I'm more interested in PvP occurrences, no offense.

The Confessor in Shadowbane was op with super nukes, healing, endless mana and could fly.
The Og mage in Asheron's call was pretty op when leveled.
I still think nothing comes close to the survivability of the prot paladin in wow.

Was on halfus 25m hc. There are 4 dragons up + 8 whelps that count as 1 dragon too. Per drake that you kill, you get a 100% dmg increase on the boss. The damage increase does not count on the drakes. However some classes can cleave off the boss, so the damage that goes onto the adds is actually influenced by the multiplier. I guess his combustion went like that.

The orange line is supposed to indicate raid dps. But apparently it screws over world of logs ...

And yeah I know you actually meant pvp, but still thought it was a fun thing to mention in regards to OP.

When Conan first released, the ranger class was super op at low levels.

nah nah nah,
nothing beats the OPness of vanilla mages popping ToEP, ZHC, Arcane Power, Pom+Pyro one-shotting people..

Zandalarian Hero Charm (http://www.wowhead.com/item=19950)
Talisman of Ephemeral Power (http://www.wowhead.com/item=18820/talisman-of-ephemeral-power)

Ahh good times.

They fixed this a couple of weeks ago, but it lasted a while. Like months until alot of people started doing it. You could get the buff on any pet, I have seen hunters that have the buff on all their pets. In Masters terrence at the 2nd boss, with the little lighting balls that charges are the ones that buffed.

At launch in SWG:

Bounty Hunter / Pistoleer = Fire Knockdown to Knockdown/Dizzy, then spam Eye Shot until dead. All the while your OP Pre-Nerf Probe Droid dealt massive amounts of damage.

Combat Medic = able to toss AE disease/dots from out of LOS.

Finally, up until the Combat Upgrade, any spec that stacked the Teras Kasi Precision Striking line and the Medic First Aid line.

end of thread :D

also, what about shammys with those 2 hammers from the NAX40 for a few months in bgs before BC. That was a bit silly too.

As of my last time playing EQ which was in ...07 or 08...Id have to say Bard. Man I really hated seeing swarm kiting go :/

I'd have to go with PvE - Bards in Everquest at the Planes of Power expansion...
Which was the last I played the game.

Chant Kiting was absolutely sick, and you'd have a solo bard controlling a camp which would otherwise require 15+ players.
Just alternating songs/instruments between:
- running faster then the mobs could chase
- rotating which mob was charmed, which would have the swarm kill it for you with their insanely strong NPC dps... and breaking the charm just before the mob dies, switching to charming another mob
- doing a small aoe dot on all the mobs, to finish off those almost dead from the charm

For PvP...

Star Wars Galaxies, prior to opening the Jedi for anyone who wanted to be one....
I had a build which was, parts of Pistoleer, Fencer and Tera Kasi.

The dodge was sick, could basically go face to face with a dozen others and almost never get hit.
The accuracy was amazing, I'd consistently drop ten imperial scum working together with my single rebel hero.
And TK had a move, where you'd trip someone and they couldn't get up.

After a while, there was some kind of a patch.
And Rifleman/Another type of Sword user... became superior to Pistoleer/Fencer, but kept the same levels of TK in there.
It was strong, but not absurdly broken like my previous build.

I can remember leveling up my first shaman when WF proc'ed three extra attacks instead of two. Alas, my shammy was level 35 or 36 when they finally fixed that. And after however many years, they wound up changing it back to three extra attacks, heh.

I had read somewhere that rogues could one-shot people with Ambush in WOW beta. Any truth to that?

Edit to add: Now that I remember, shadow/regen scrappers in City of Heroes were ridiculously overpowered for quite a while. With the right power choices, you had a character that, so long as he could withstand the initial burst damage from a group of enemies, was effectively unkillable. Most enemy characters had some form of moderate-to-high damage attack and they would all use it when you first engaged, but the various attacks were on different cooldown timers. So if the initial "alpha strike" didn't kill you, you'd heal it up within seconds and after that you could out-regen anything they threw at you. And not just health, either. Your energy regen was also off the charts. You could jump into the middle of 10-15 NPCs that had 2-4 levels on you, kill them all, and finish at 100% health/energy.

Rogues with high-end weapons could indeed on-shot clothies. Mages in particular, and priests - they used to love rogues. Locks tended to have higher health pools

Also, mace rogues with the correct spec and procs could keep targets continuously stunned for a lonnnnnnng time, while chewing at their hp. Back when diminishing returns were not implemented or not so short

SWG- pre-cu.. def statted TK/pike/fence/Master Swords with rest in medic... fun fun.. people would be afraid to get anywhere near you.

Daoc - others might disagree with this.. but a properly specced bone dancer was impossible to kill. Massive lifetap as a MAIN nuke.

EQ - Bards, hands down.

AC2 - again, personal view.. but a properly played Tactician was insanely powerful in pvp. as long as the enemy stayed to fight.. as they were not mobile.

UO - Corp Por anyone?

I remember that, during tBC. Some rogues actually complained about it, worrying that the stun would proc while they were using Cheap Shot or Kidney Shot, thereby "wasting" a stun. All I could think was "you mean that in addition to keeping an enemy stunned for 95% of his health, I may also get a 'courtesy stun' that takes care of the other 5%?? BLING BLING!"

Edit to remove the part about the PVP maces. My memory must be completely bonkers, geez...
