This was an interesting blue comment I found, in a thread ('http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=4976249306&pageNo=2&sid=1#37') about how one realm claimed to be 7.6:1 horde:alliance:
The faction balance is almost a perfect 2:1, horde heavy, which is fairly normal for PvP realms. PvE tends to be alliance heavy at about 2:1, so it's flipped but definitely within an acceptable difference and comparison to other realms.
I would not have guessed those ratios were normal. :P

They lie...I played a ton on my rogue, Zeral, who was rolled and lvl'd to 60 on Gul'dan before transferring it to Mag with my ex's lock to lvl to 70. The server is and has been DEAD alliance-side for-fucking-ever. There's few people in IF during peak hours(which would be a freakin laggy nightmare on mag)
, Shatt wasn't much better, there was NOONE at ALL in hellfire peninsula when I attempted to lvl the rogue pre-transfer(probably back between may and august), noone capping either faction towers, noone in town, noone lvling.
The GM doesn't particularly specify gul'dan, just states specs're good...I say it's a flat-out lie from experience. :P

Why would anyone want to play alliance? :)

I played a while on Burning blade (pvp) alliance side and it was a hell of a lot worse than 2:1 horde to alliance ratio. It was rare to see alliance out leveling in outlands, while horde were everywhere. My main play has been on stormrage(pve), and its definitely alliance heavy. PvPers play horde or are masochists, most pve'rs seem to prefer alliance.

You roll Alliance on PVP if you want to have the maximum opportunity to kill people, because they're everywhere. On Stormscale, my server, a 2:1 ratio is about right. I have plenty of Horde to kill and enough Alliance members to make it fun.

well i rolled alliance because my RL friends did, and they probably did cause they were all 14-year-old retards at the time.

Why does horde always accuse alliance of being 14yo kids, and vice versa? I'm sure the demographics of both factions are about equal :P.
Personally, I rolled Alliance because almost none of the females in my guild wanted to play Horde. A few were willing to roll as undead, but the general aesthetics didn't appeal to them. We have a strict 18+ requirement, and the majority of our members are late 20's and older. That post saying that PvP servers tend to have more dense horde population makes sense to me, I think it's about what type of game you prefer and not age. I love farming while watching a movie, relaxing gathering herbs, etc. I can't stand PvP servers.

Of course, some of us just say it straight without any fluff like demographics: alliance just sucks. :D

People roll horde because they want to be overpowered in PvP. I prefer alliance because 1) that attitude pisses me off and 2) I find the horde capitol cities mostly depressing. To each his own.

There was a thread posted awhile back that asked "Why is Horde so much smarter/better at pvp than Alliance?", and he included a fully thought out and explained hypothesis with it: Natural Selection. All Alliance major cities are generally flat Circles. Easy to find your way around in, little complexity. Horde towns are maze-like messes with multiple exits and levels. Undercity is sort of a circle but has 3-4 lvls in the city part itself let alone the ruined area above it; thunder bluff is spread out into multi-level bluffs and caves; orgrimmar is a roof-filled nightmare with npcs spread out to a point that running from them to AH to lvl professions is a bitch, engs especially who're way fucking back in the furthest area possible from AH; and christ Silvermoon City is fucking huge and has 2 or 3 AHs and Inns BY ITSELF, let alone the trainers being spread out everywhere and full of random distracting npcs and everything being a blended pastel color.
Bottom line was, it's easier/gentler on idiots in Alliance areas, while Horde have to actively think just to survive their own fucking towns, let alone pvp. I think the example in the thread was, "Noob rolls Horde alt, gets lost and falls off shit constantly in horde towns, goes fuck this and rolls alliance, merrily running in circles in IF/SW"

Now that's an interesting take on it.

I actually prefer the horde cities except for the blood elf shithole. That place is retardly large. Darnassus is spread out, stormwind is also, ironforge is easy to get around. Horde cities have more character, orgrimmar is cool with the drag and the different sections of the city, and thunderbluffs not that complicated to me either. I rolled alliance because friends did, I play horde because i like the characters more. To each their own, but I think you'll find alot of people just like to play plain old stupid humans, its easier for them to relate.

My experience is that the vast majority of times when the horde dominate in PvP it's because they have better gear and/or more twinks. All of this other stuff about racials, horde team mentality, demographics, etc. may matter, but it's a way smaller factor in most cases than the simple question of who has the best gear.
