View Full Version : how to play wow. mash 1 button + /castrandom
i just had an epiphany.
on my 70 black temple destruction warlock that i raid with i'm gonna try it out (Malkav/Llane <Epignosis>;)
/castrandom Shadow Bolt, Immolate, Incinerate, Conflagarate, Corruption, Curse of Agony, Fear (insert whatever)
bind that macro to key 3, mash 3 a lot
it's now a fun game wondering what i'll cast next!!!!!!!!!
i can already forsee huge advantages to something similar in multiboxing
my level 35 shamans will now use /castrandom Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, Earth Shock, Frost Shock, Flame Shock, Tremor Totem, Grounding Totem
random interval dps, refreshes tremor/grounding
i'm curious if you put Lightning Bolt in there 3 times, would it have a 1 in 3 chance to cast Bolt while every other spell has a 1 in 9 chance? I will be testing that and let you guys know.
this random cast has the disadvantage of not every spell hits the target at the same time, which isn't as good necessarily for pvp, but you can still have coordinated nukes bound to 4 and 5 (or whatever) while random cast macro is on 3 (or whatever). but it has the advantage of randomly having damage hit a target at random intervals, saving mana overall in pve due to less wasted nukes.
I'm considering 5 boomkin. The boomkin talent that loses cast time by 0.5 when you crit made me consider how nukes would be spread out (good thing(TM)), and how i could achieve that with other classes. I can imagine the fun in /castrandom Moonfire, Starfire, Wrath. I'll still have a button bound to 5xmoonfire, 5xwrath, 5xstarfire.... but the randomly pick one macro i'm sure i will use much more often just cause it's cooler!
also while leveling in different forms i plan on having 3 bound to /castrandom everything. for bear, on all 4 clones the 3 key will be /castrandom Maul, Swipe, Lacerate, Whatever. on cats, 1 will be stealth, 2 will be /castrandom Pounce, Ravage (then 3 line /castrandom Shred, Claw, Rip, Rake, Maim.
I'll have to think of creative ways to control which druid is in which form, both intentionally and unintentionally. i use a g11 keyboard and i bind the 18 keys to ctrl shift 1-12 and ctrl alt 1-6.... and in keybinds i make those control the bottom left/bottom right button bars. so forseeably i could have lots of possibilities. a "randomize group" /castrandom Cat Form, Bear Form, Whatever..... could be fun if i force myself to stick with whatever random group i get for a quest or two =)
omgz, focus main toon
healz=/getoutofform[notalreadyincasterform]/castrandom Lifebloom, Regrowth, Rejuvenate [target=focustargettarget]
make them die=/cast whateverform[notalreadyinform]/castrandom <insertnuke/meleeabilitieshere> [target=focustarget]
now i only need 2-3 keys bound while boxing. /follow, /randomizeeveryclassability, /dance
(and f11 = strafe left on two, f11 = strafe right on two, f12 = strafe left on one already strafing left, and strafe right on one already strafing right. press f11 for half a sec, press f12 for half a sec, and BAM they are lined up decent enough.
oh yeah, and /dance must be bound
I want to try this idea of /castrandom Every, Single, Class, Skill .... as every class.
Teej <I Only Have To Press One Button> and/or Teej <I Win Button> and/or Teej <O is for Owned> and/or Teej <castrandom macro FTW>. any cooler guild names for this random cast concept? can anyone help me with my druid form check/form switch macros? i will be experimenting a lot with these ideas, and also rolling 5 druids this weekend. Being in the navy IRL far from my family/friends gives me a lot of time for my two hobbies.... drinking guinness and multiboxing wow.
predicting the future, in a few months i could possibly have 5 of every class at 40ish since i probably won't be able to decide which combo i like best until i've tried them all. currently i have hunters and shamans. tried pally/priest/3mages but i didn't initially like different classes. this "/castrandomform and force myself to adapt druid macro" idea with "/castrandom 3 every, class, skill macro[target=focustarget]" has me thinking once i have 5 of every class, i can randomly pick 5 different guys near 40 to "force myself to PuG". if every class skill is bound to 3 in a random macro, even with strange class combinations, all i have to do is button mash 3 after /follow to win. with any combination. obviously it'd be easier with 1 tank and/or hunter pet and/or felguard/voidwalker, with 1 or more healers that have /castrandom heal, heal, heal [target=focustargettarget]. but that just makes it too easy. playing 5 perfectly coordinated toons gave me the urge to do pugs, and now i can do pugs solo.
as for guild ideas for my alts (specifically naming them somehow based on the idea of binding /castrandom everything to 3), how about <castrandom every skill>.
Also it'd take more effort (and/or more level 1 guys to sign my own charters), but this could be funny (4 separate guilds for 4 alts clones)
main <Epignosis> (of course, have to chat with friends)
Alt1 <A is for Apple>
Alt2 <B is for Bat>
Alt3 <C is for Chlamydia> (or any other big, slightly funny word/disease that starts with C}
Alt4 <O is for Owned>
it ironically portrays the evolution of every noob/mob i encounter. first, they are at an elemental reading level, then they make themselves look like an idiot and/or make everyone around them hope Chlamydia upon them, then they just get Owned.
Yes, i use /and ( and ) a lot. it's fun/efficient/win (and allows me to combine an entire paragraph into one sentence).
Also, I love you guys. endless supply of great ideas to try. This game was boring until I discovered multiboxing/theseforums/yourmom.
main is controlled
alt1 follows main
alt2 follows alt1
alt3 follows alt2
alt4 follows alt3
(instead of all 4 alts follow main)
CONGA LINE LOLOLOLZ. insert /train (makes your guys go WOO! WOOO! like a train). run them in a circle, whatever creative junk you come up with. if it's funny, TELL ME PLEASE CAUSE I NEED MORE FUNNY@!#
this makes it easier to get caught on walls while running around/falling off cliffs, but in town while screwing around/bragging/dancepartying it is another funny in my bag of tricks

... (<---- tripple dots)
spamming 1 button(castsequence/randomcast) is fun ?
Maybe I miss your point or I just got some other type of humor, but playing a high level loch with everything bound to 1 button ?
But ok everyone plays his own way
i wouldnt use the /castrandom everything on my lock while raiding, but it'd be funny to mess around with that kind of macro while farming soul shards or doing daily quests. really it just makes 4 alt clones funner, due to the humor in randomizing the whole skill library of whatever class they are, meanwhile still doing noteworthy dps. i can understand how you might not think /castrandom on a single 70 character wouldn't be fun/effective, but if you don't see the humor/fun in using that sort of macro while 5 boxing, i feel sad for your soul. Possibly you read the first paragraph and skipped the other 15 paragraphs i wrote. Either way, don't knock it till you try it!!!!!
All those without a sense of humor (not naming names), this is how to maximize UA lock dps (42/0/19). I have recently gone 0/21/40 which is slightly better dps due to my gear. prior to top notch raid gear (i now have 200 spell hit rating and like 1400 shadow damage buffed), UA will always be the best damage in long fights. one day i will go felguard spec due to being super effective in hyjal on the waves of trash mobs that invade. buffed FG cleaving for the win. 200 spell hit still needed. demonic knowlede will raise my shadow damage to near 1550 for bigger seed of corruption explosions and shadow bolts.
/cast curse (i use curse of shadows with 3/3 malediction) while positioning
use scryer's bloodgem (or whatever trinket you use for +damage burst) prior to dotting when possible. a macro to /use Scryer's Bloodgem /cast Unstable Affliction helps immensely to ensure all your dots take advantage of the huge damage burst.
dot sequence is UA then instant Corruption then Immolate. The reason for this order is they all fade at the exact same time. you have to teach yourself to anticipate the last dot tick, and have the last millisecond of casting new UA hit as the last tick fades. then hit instant corruption and start immolate.
Between dot refresh sequence, spam Shadowbolt. Have good crit, due to imp SB raising dot damage.
Soul Shatter at ~2 minutes and 7 minutes on threat capped fights like void reaver with a 10min enrage timer. still watch threat.
Using that damage method and my gear I'm first in dps in virtually every raid encounter. I was top 5 with that method when i was in crappy 5man gear. A rogue sometimes beats me due to being grouped with a dps warrior, enhancement shaman, bm hunter, and another guy who group buffs somehow. But only on fights where he can stand still the whole fight. Sometimes a mage beats me on fights that involve AoE, when i'm assigned in a utility role like range tanking or i'm separated from the rest of the dps, such as in kael'thas when i hang out by the engineer guy to keep staff of destruction buffs on that group, and i don't have shadow weaving or other debuffs on my damage target. Even with that considering, I still can get 1st in dps on kael'thas simply to my massive damage on the weapon targets in phase two.
Also, when you put all your dots on multiple targets that are tanked you have a HUGE advantage in dps compared to people who can only hit 1 target at a time. positioning and survival are paramount while trying to maintain this method of dps. a dead warlock does 0 dps. well, after his dots fade. =).
Castrandom is OP & should be nerfed. I prefer binding DPS Spells to the right side of the keyboard, & my totems & heals to the left, & Rolling my face across the keyboard.
rolling face across keyboard for the win.
i used to joke about binding every key to frost shock and rolling my face across the keyboard on my pre-TBC shaman!
i guess binding keys to different abilities works even better =)

Took a while, but I finally came up with names for my druid team.
Say Hello to "Whho, Yoou, Gonna, Caall, and Ghostbusterz" just hit level 4 on them and took a break to do arena on my warlock.
http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=RGalleryImageWrapper&itemID=20&type=image_368be64c023343de2dfbcdadd4eced18
i'm sticking with my idea of being simplistic. very few keys will even be bound. G1 is the invite on main, /focus ghostbusterz on alts. i should add the "accept quest" stuff to g1 on alts when i get around to it. g12 is /follow focus on alts, and on main it is /flex. i find it comical that every time i turn on /follow that my main flexes. didn't really intend for spamming that button much but when i loot a quest item on an alt sometimes they drop follow and i'm forced to /flex as a result. makes me chuckle. f11/f12 spread them in a line like i talked about earlier.
3 on alts is /castrandom [target=focustarget] Wrath, Moonfire, Starfire works great (although i only have wrath and moonfire so far at lvl 4.
on main take out the [target=focustarget] as main is the focus
2 on alts i'm not sure how to write
i fogured /castrandom [target=focustargettarget] Rejuv, Regrowth, Lifebloom (meh i wish i got lifebloom sooner)
that would make everyone heal the target of the mob my main has targetted
but what if i choose to target "Gonna" and want everyone to heal that toon.
i have to do something weird like [target=focustarget if ally; target=focustargettarget] i have to research how to write that macro i guess unless someone can point me in the right direction! (psst that means you guys). i want the macro to heal the target of my main if it is a friendly character, and heal the target of the mob my main has targetted if it's not... anyone know how to do that?
i'll have a way to make every druid switch to different forms by pressing the G keys on my G11 keyboard (bound those keys to trigger ctrl alt 2 thru ctrl alt 6). then, in each form, 3 will be a similar /castrandom every, class, skill. should be entertaining. not sure how to handle druids being in different forms other than doing it manually. to level i plan on tanking on main, and on alts stack hots and assist nuke. from what i hear, 5 balance druids isn't viable till outland gear.
does anyone have a spec they recommend for leveling? if 5 feral is easier i could do that i guess, but i think 1 feral 4 balance with hots would be the win.
this might work (again, tank/main is set as focus)
/castrandom [target=focustarget, help] Regrowth, Rejuvenate, Lifebloom; [target=focustargettarget, help] Regrowth, Rejuvenate, Lifebloom
if i target an ally it should cast 4 random heals on them (1 per nontank druid). if i target a mob, it should cast 4 random heals on that mob's target.
i just had another cool idea; have 3 druids do the random heal on the mob's target, while the 4th druid cyclones that mob. a good "oh shit heal that guy and cyclone the guy hitting him" effect.
i'm thinking i should have a button that does /cast [target=Ghostbusterz] Lifebloom
that is, later on, when i'm tanking heroics and such, i'd have to be more deliberate with stacking hots.

I don't think it's a good idea to go and tell new people about what you do. I eplxain multi boxing as controlling a few chars (2 till as much as you like) and the way you do it, isn't it just about smashing a few buttons ?
It's not mana efficient, no skills needed and it also might get boring very soon ...
Play the way you like but don't think it's the perfect multibox way, because I'm 100% is't far from perfect. I also like to check dps done by your party using random stuff against any MB's damage meter usiong skills and well times spells / CD's abilities.
here is a youtube video i found of a shaman with every key bound to frost shock for your enjoyment ^
http://youtube.com/watch?v=QhJeP1BT2JA
as a slight play by play, 80% of the screen is covered by frost shock buttons, and you can barely see anything in the center viewing window! i find myself showing this video to lots of people i meet that play wow at work (in the navy), heh.
i used to joke about binding every key to frost shock and rolling my face across the keyboard on my pre-TBC shaman!
I read this yesterday and I'm still laughing about it.
best.post.ever
it is my goal/enjoyment/challenge to dumb the game down to pressing 3 buttons that control 5 players well enough to farm heroics. play it how you want, i'll continue playing how i want. also, i think it's a great idea to go and tell new people about what i do. isn't that the purpose of this entire website/forum? for people who want to multibox to get tips and have a community to belong to? i've tried it your way, even without the use of keyclone. yea it was neat controlling 4 characters with 4 keyboards near eachother, kind of like playing 4 pianos at the same time.... but keyclone and macros make it a lot more managable/enjoyable. and the more people that find stuff i do/post about useful, the better.
one time i bought 3 usb numpad mouse combos. (mouses with a numpad on top). i got a piece of plywood and mounted them side by side next to eachother, after removing the mouseballs. i plugged one into 3 separate computers. i dumbed down the warlock class to 10 buttons (harder than you think), most of which weren't even macros aside from /follow and /assist which were both bound to mousewheelup. this was back in the day before "focus" stuff. having 3 numpads next to eachother, making the "rock on" symbol with my hand, so i could hit 1-0 on all 3 numpads at the same time with my thumb, index finger, and pinky. yeah, that's the hard way, yeah that sucked. yeah, when a pull went bad it was very hard to react and survive, which now changes with keyclone and smart/creative use of macros. i prefer keeping up with the times.
I don't think it's a good idea to go and tell new people about what you do. I eplxain multi boxing as controlling a few chars (2 till as much as you like) and the way you do it, isn't it just about smashing a few buttons ?

wouldn't the perfect multibox way be the way that allows you to have any of the 5 characters do any action you choose on a keypush's notice? that takes a lot of preplanning and creative use of binds/macros. i'd hate for everyone to have to learn the hard way, so i share what i figure out. and yes, it is mana efficient, once geared, if properly played. i play on having 4 spellsurge enchants on my lvl 70 epic caster staves once i'm up there, that gives 50 mp/5 per character per proc. if all 4 proc, 200 mp/5 times 4 is a cummulative 800 mp/5 across the 4 casting toons (if main is tanking via swipe/mangle). not to mention dreamstate (regen mana equal to 10% of your int every 5 sec even while casting) and intensity (allows 30% of mana regen to continue while casting). the cheap mana cost of 4 lifeblooms (1 per character) and effective burst of 4xstarfire/wrath/moonfire will not only make healing the tank super easy and bursting down the tank's target super easy. the only thing that i will have to work on (other than gearing the toons via quests and 5mans and pvp epics) will be managing threat, which i have a plan for already. the caster druids will be something like 43/0/18, which takes both mana regen talents, and the 20% less threat from both heals and nukes (subtlety) in resto tree. bear tank will need enough attack power for swipe to keep more aggro than 1 druid's worth of lifebloom on the extra targets. then, i just have to ensure enough threat to outdps 1 druid's worth of caster dps on the kill target. mangle every cooldown (6sec) is great threat, swiping between mangles should be more than enough even on main target, considering white dps.
if you have any constructive tips, then please by all means share them, but if you're just gonna "naysay", please take it to a different thread/person. that being said, i do see and understand your point... i just come from a different perspective. i've been multiboxing the hard way since around 1999 in everquest 1. did a lot of daoc boxing also. before that i multiboxed diablo 2, kind of... i had a barb buff me, and a sorc enchant my weapon, with max buff effect and duration skills/items. then i'd play a different character on ezmode. speed run challenges were fun. especially forcing yourself to choose a crappy class or spec, despite barb/sorc buffs.
i much prefer the easy/methodical/efficient way, this new way i am trying to implement/learn with the help of others, some of whom are already doing it similarly.
When I first got into multi-boxing I didn't take the time to plan out my keybindings and I 'boosted' my clones with my 70 main. Once my clones got to around 50 they were powerful enough to start contributing to the bottom line DPS and efficiency of the group. But going from 10 abilities per character to like 60 abilities per character was overwhelming, and I didn't really know what half the shit did anyway.
I just used /castrandom for my 'open fire' dps button just to work in new abilities i've never used before. Loved it and found it to be a very effective way to reduce the monotony of seeing fireballs and shadow bolts pelting the target over and over.
I'm happy to see there's others out there taking this to an extreme. Every time I think of a new macro where I want to use castsequence i pause for a moment and consider how castrandom might work better. With a lock using conflagerate, i think the cast random is great because the cast sequence can jam up if the immolate wore off. Plus with my warrior I put victory rush and sweeping strikes on the mousewheel down key (along with cleave but it's not on the GCD so it always tries to cast). This let's me do multi-target dps without wasting another key for sweeping strikes and everytime victory rush is up i'm punching the guy with the free attack. Great stuff.

Well TEEJ you got me, I'm gonna use 2 buttons for the random cast ... ^^
In a shorter fight it might be fun and the way Nixi used it, is even more nice(just to see what's what)
I'll post my findings later on lol

Six walls of text (so far) crit you for 2000 damage!
anyone else out there do 1 feral 4 balance/resto hybrid and solo heroics?
this wouldn't be bad for multi-warlock teams in pvp.
You don't want all 4 to fear at the same time. But you wouldnt want a separate button for fear on each lock (WAY too much work :D ).
So you could have this kinda macro: /castrandom fear, searing pain, searing pain, immolate giving each lock a 1/4 chance to fear 3/4 chance to use a different skill. Each skill is 1.5 second cast. (immolate 1.5 with destruction talents) . Gives you a good chance for at least 1 fear on each button press, and some dps with the same button.
Could do the same kinda thing with instant dots, wouldnt be as efficient though since you have the chance to cast 2 of the same dot in a row thus over-writing the dot.
If you are too lazy to assign one curse to each lock, could just copy and paste a /castrandom [List all curses here] macro for each lock. Odds are you will end up with at least 1 useful curse on the target ^_^
