View Full Version : [WoW] So I need to start using custom views again

So (to my knowledge) the whole SaveView / SetView stuff has been broken since CATA launched. If just ignored it til now. After patch 4.1 for some reason my frame rates have dropped and im finding it necessary to once again have my alts stare at the ground. Id like them to anyways for AOE usage, but the performance boost is nice too.
Anyways. It would be nice if I could get this working via isboxer so i dont have to rely on macros on my characters.... Is anybody doing this now and if so can you help me set it up?
To be clear, i want to have my non active characters change their views to stare at their feet. It will need to switch depending on who is my main.
Thanks for any help.

Actually, I used it last night and it worked fine. You can't save a view to #1... only 2 through 5. Just to be sure before replying to
this I logged on again to test it and it still works as of 2 minutes ago. :)

Are you 200% sure that it's not an addon? You've disabled every single addon and you still get an FPS drop? We were talking
about this last night.

Thats cool if this is the case... before it was letting you do it while logged in but when you logged out you'd lose all your saved views. If its working now... the next question is, how do I get jamba to tie in the /script SetView(2);SetView(2); on active window changing? Or do I just need to go back to using a macro?

No I am not sure at all. I did go and upgrade all my add ons after you told me to though, addons I use:
Isboxer
jamba
vuhdo
omen
recount
smartbuff

In your ISBoxer character set each slot has the ability to execute a macro upon switching windows, this is where I do it.

Well, depending on where you are or what you're doing when the drop occurs... I would disable every addon and go re-enact
that scene to see if I could reproduce the problem without any addons installed. If I couldn't I would then load one addon at a
time (since you don't use many) and keep doing that until you find out which addon alone, or in combination with another, is
causing the issue.
Large FPS drops don't normally magically happen with a patch that hasn't really changed much.

This is how I've set up my follow key:

I've found that tieing the view reset key to follow is better than resetting the view immediately before aoeing.

Is there anyway around having to 'save view' each time you log in?
Even a macro for distance and pitch.

No, just use the default 5 that you're given, one of them is bound to be close enough to what you need.

We used to be able to save custom views.
And have them remember them once saved, until overwritten.
Since the launch of Cata, the views are not remembered.
You can manually edit your saved variables.
Or maybe it is the configuration file.
One of them anyway.
Such that the exact view you want is what is listed for a given view.
Then launch the game and have your view as desired.
Unfortunately, when you exit the game will reset the views.
Not sure if you could make the file unwriteable or if that would cause more issues.

Looks like
WoW/WTF/ACCOUNT/ACCOUNTNAME/SERVERNAME/CHARACTERNAME
camera-settings.txt
and
macros-cache.txt
camera-settings.txt isn't updated when you log out, and macros-cache.txt dosnt seem to be used anymore.
I have a key I press when I log in that sets looting and camera views and focus (which I then proceed to never use lol) and follow and basic buffs, I guess thats what you will have to do.
You can try making camera-settings.txt read only but I don't know if that file is even being used anymore.

Ya I knew that I was just testing you to see if you would catch our error.
Good Work!
I guess it dosn't save files if you don't update them. But the game did erase the macros-cache.txt file which indicates to me that its no longer being used.
Ok it saves them by account in the config-cache.wtf
