View Full Version : Rift graphics: crossfire or upgrade?

I currently have a Radeon HD 5770 - but I get poor FPS dual-boxing rift. (30fps main/10fps slave, and huge drops from that level in busy areas like cities, or when fighting rifts, which makes the game no fun at all to play)

I really want to hear opinions from you guys specific to RIFT, and also to 5-boxing WoW: Should I look for a second 5770 to run in Crossfire, or would I be happier with a GTX 4xx series card for these two gaming situations? Or a Radeon 6xxx series upgrade?

Unfortunately, I really, really need to keep it under about $200, and there might be a new PSU in my future as well, depending on the card I choose.

Im using a GTX 470 stock speeds and with the Low quality render on the slaves and main on low-med settings i still get 45-50 fps on main costantly. How do you have your cores setup cause that was a huge jump in perfomance for me mine are setup as such.

Main char- Core 1 and 2
1st slave- Core 3 and 4
2nd slave-Core 5 and 6
3rd slave- Core 7 and 8
4th slave- Core 5 and 7

try it out and let me know what happens!

Have you tried the low quality renderer? I'm able to run 3 decently well with main on up to normal/medium and the 2 alts on low qual render everything to min. Thats a 5770 on a mac pro. It can get a bit laggy in the city or rifts, but turning them all to low qual runs pretty smooth even for that.

I tried the low quality renderer and performance increases but it looks so terrible! At least compared to running the game in normal, even with graphics turned way down.

@void: I only have a Q6600, so no virtual cores to work with. Only trying to run two clients though, so maybe I will dig up the thread on core assignment again and see what I can do with it. I did try assigning them in ISBoxer, main to core 1 and 2, slave to core 3 and 4 but didn't see a marked improvement... I will revisit this to see if I can get more out of it for sure.

I play my Slaves in Low quality render but my main in Med graphic settings get 45-50 fps on main and i limited the slaves to 10 via ISboxer honestly who cares if your slaves have poor graphics who looks at them any ways hehe.

So would I be correct to say that 4 toons is the max a single machine can handle with 3 on the low renderer and the main on medium settings?

Im running 5 characters 4 on low quality render and my main on Med graphics if there is a world event i turn my main down to low graphics but still normal render.

The game still needs 5 toons to do dungeons I presume?
