View Full Version : Greetings from a new Multi Boxer!
Greetings everyone!
I recently took the plunge and began multi-boxing 4 NE hunters. Currently level 14 and having a blast! It adds a whole new outlook to the game and even just plain grinding is fun again.
I will continue to read the forums as I've learned a great deal from them. Currently have all my macros and keybindings set up pretty well I think, allowing me to control my characters fairly well.
I just had a few generic questions, if no one minds me asking.
I have found questing so far a true pain in the rear. Most of the quests are collection quests which on their own aren't bad, but it's a real pain trying to get each character to loot. Is there a more efficient way to looting other than going to that character screen and actually right clicking? Being able to loot with individual toons w/o actually mousing to their screen would be so awesome.
Do you all generally level by quest or by grinding? Right now (at 14) my toons can easily take level 20-21 mobs with no downtime at all at a very quick pace. I've found the xp very nice by doing this so far, though I can see it getting tedious once the wow factor of it all is over.
Also...what do you all do about the civilians? It never fails, I run to town to train/sell/repair, set my toons up in formation and run off to do my thing. I come back and there is a flock of people (of all levels 1-70) standing around spouting "WTF!" "BOTS!" "REPORTED!". Of course there are the good people too "WOW! Thats awesome!" and what not. What do you do with the bad ones though? I have just been /target Player /Laugh.
Anyway, thanks for any advice to a newbie and I look forward to being a part of this awesome community!
I'm on the Arygos server BTW, Ally.
Hey man, welcome!
Yeah the looting is a PITA. Best thing I've done is just configure for auto loot. If you're running multiple instances on one machine then get the TweakUI PowerToy from MS so you automatically focus on whatever window your mouse is over, that helped me a lot.
As far as Quest/Instance grinding, that's almost as debated as class selection on this forum. I will say thought that the 20-60 extra quest XP really adds a lot to the questing angle. Regardless you're best doing whatever you enjoy the most. I primarily quested from 1-60 but now in Outland my strat is to rest all week (what? no WoW?!?!) and then run instances all weekend with double XP goodness (1600/kill/toon in Ramps).
For Civilians? Grow a thick skin. Hide your alts in a lesser used building or under the stairs in IF near the bank (for some reason NO one ever sees my shaman under there). I try and say SOMETHING in /say just so that people know there's a real person attached. I also reply to whispers, but only so long as they'll stay civil. Most common comments?
1) joeplayer: Nice Bots, elo: Not bots, it's called multiboxing, look it up on wowwiki
2) joeplayer: You gonna sell those accounts, elo: Have you ever done the math on that? It works out to be less than minimum wage
3) joeplayer: Man, someone's got no life, elo: hey, do a /played and tell me what you got. So far (at 60) I've got less than 2 days each in these how about you?, elo: Well, what is it? <There is no player named 'joeplayer'> ROFL!
Either way man, don't do anything that violates ToS (and correct Multiboxing doesn't) and Blizz is on your side so the idiots just don't matter.

I come back and there is a flock of people (of all levels 1-70) standing around spouting "WTF!" "BOTS!" "REPORTED!".I actually was glad I was reported early, so I could talk to some nice GMs and get notes added on all my accounts that I am multiboxing and not botting. I haven't been pinged by a GM in ages. I do think I've not had many of these kind of encounters with people, though.
Of course there are the good people too "WOW! Thats awesome!" and what not. This is one of the fun parts of multiboxing. Enjoy it!

Not possible you got to click on every screen. Now you have have to pick up say 5 quest items for the quest.. Just loot all 5 first on your main, then change up the follow macros and focus macros then then play on your next toon loot the next with him, then again change up the following and focus and do it with the next. Some collections quests are good to do, the drop reat is good. some sucks ass, don't do them. Collection quests for the time to take to do them, could in the long run be good XP wise.

How Should I Level?

1-10 Lowbie quests.
10-25 I used a 70 druid to run me thru instances on my 4 shammies to 25. (VC/Stocks)
25-40 I instanced with the Warrior (BFD/SM) and did a few quests when I was bored
40-45 I did SM with the paladin and hand-leveled each shaman when I was bored for about 1 level.
<--- 2.3 Patch. Long break happened here where I didn't play my shammies.
45+ Quests.
60-67 Quests. I do each instance only once or twice in order to complete the instance quests. I did all the quests in Hellfire, Zangarmarsh, Terokkar, Nagrand.
67-68? Kurenai Rep grind. Killed ogres in Nagrand. Fun stuff.
68-69 Caverns of Time: Durnholde
69-70 (almost there) Sethekk Halls There are other ways this is just one I came across. People also don't suggest doing collection quests because they take up way to much time. I personally do them just to try the drop rate if it sucks I skip it, if its an ok drop rate I do it. Its good XP. If you have a 70 friend, get them to pwr lvl you here and there, if not find a 5th person to fill up the spot and go try to run a instance.
Also...what do you all do about the civilians? It never fails, I run to town to train/sell/repair, set my toons up in formation and run off to do my thing. What do you do with the bad ones though? I have just been /target Player /Laugh. lol @ them and ignore them. Your going to get alot of that. They are just hates and sad because they cannot do that. In the back of their minds they are like WOW thats awesome.

It does get better after 60. It doesn't completely go away, but it diminishes after 60 when they realize you've been around forever and never got banned.
You're welcome to forward them to my FAQ (www.v-boxing.net/faq (http://www.v-boxing.net/faq)) for non-multiboxers and remind them that while they're welcome to ticket a GM about multiboxing, harassment is against the terms of use and it's within your rights to report them for it.

If I have to AH abit I park my shamans on the water in thunderbluff .... Funny to read the stuff people whisper them and tell in /say's. When I'm done U just run by while getting them on follow, mount and run of as a group....
I like the confusion  :whistling:
Nothing to be ashamed of when I'm online with my crew since I did get them the gear myself, just like other people who show off their S3 gear near the bank

I agree, nothing to be ashamed of. My play time lately consists of a couple runs through instances, then a few quests, then I hearth to Orgrimmar and enjoy some attention. Only 1 out of 10 comments are negative, and it's nice to answer questions and have people ask me to make my men /dance or drop totems.

However, leaving 3 - 4 Shaman in dacing ghost-wolf form will almost always get other Shaman to just in formation and dance right along with you. :)
On a related note, I got my Piccolo on my first Strat run doing my pally's epic mount quest. The people don't have bread...? Let them dance!
I have a macro that makes one dance, one lie down and one sit, works as a nice 1st layer of "camoflauge" for when i'm hanging around in org.
