Currently Running.
i7 920 12gigs ram, HD 5770 and Patriot 32gig ssd
Running 3 clients gets choppy.
Currently I have them all set to Min graphics.
Anyone else with a similar setup running well?
Have you tried the low quality renderer? I can run 5 clients on a lower spec machine than yours (1 x 30FPS, 4 x 15 FPS) using the low quality renderer.
Also, how do you have your cores assigned in your character set? With 3 clients I would assign 3&4 to slot 1, 5&6 to slot 2, 7&8 to slot 3.
If I want pretty-looking RIFT I solo on Ultra.

You have an InnerSpace badge so I'll assume you're using ISBoxer. What do you have your foreground and background FPS
set to in ISBoxer?

Foreground 60
Background 15
Yeah i'm using low quality renders and game runs fine. Guess i got spoiled with wows cheezy graphics not requiring much power to run full.

The Gamebryo engine is just as old or older than WoW's engine and just plain sucks for optimization.

I am running 5 clients at low quality renderer on a Core2Quad 9550 and an ATI 4890 with 8G RAM.
I have the FPS set to 25 main and 10 for background and it runs fairly smooth.

I would have thought you could do better than min graphics.
I have a Q9550 at 3.9ghz, 8GB Ram and with a GTX 285 I had 2 clients on low quality renderer and the main one on medium. All at 1920x1200.
I set the main client to use cores 1 and 2 and the secondary clients to have a core each.
I recently picked up a GTX 580 and that allowed the main client to go to Ultra settings.

Rift seems to be very CPU intensive for the CPU selected for the primary thread.
What I did to reduce my lag was to set each Rift client to use a different CPU through the virtualized .cfg files (I never have gotten around to letting ISBoxer set the CPUs because setting them in the virtual.cfg files worked so well).

So do you have ISBoxer just set to all 4 cores or no cores?
As force of habit, when I setup RIFT in ISBoxer, I setup the multiple cores. But that was prior to Lax's fix. I never saw a real performance boost from that fix, so I'm not sure if I've got it set correctly or not.
I continue to run only 3 clients, all in low-quality render mode, and I still drop to 15 fps on the main at times out in west Stillmoor even when there aren't a ton of people around.
I'm running:
Q9550
8GB RAM
Vista 64 Ultimate
ATI 6850 1GB
With the game running off an SSD

I set ISBoxer to use no cores and rely solely on the virtual .cfg files to control CPU usage.

This game is hard on CPUs. Just running a single client at Ultra graphics can use 65% of my Q9550.
I am setting the affinity through ISBoxer and can confirm that it works, each core spikes as that client comes on line.
The main client gets cores 1 and 2, client 2 gets core 3 and client 3 gets core 4. With that setup cores 1 and 2 sit around 85-95%, cores 3 and 4 sit at 100% most f the time.
I tried some other setups like no affinity for all 3 clients and that resulted in each client using 33% of the processor, that killed main client FPS so is no good.

After starting up all of your clients, open the Task manager and see if you have any RiftErrorHandler tasks still running. I kill of mine and sometimes this will reduce my CPU loading before I even enter the game.
Might be worth a shot.

I'll check that out when i get home. I have noticed that i have my clients spread across all my cpus. I'll try spreading them 1-2 each and see if that helps also.
Now if we could only get some Warrior and Pyro nerfs i'd be very happy!
