View Full Version : Beginning Maximizer 101
Back again.
My first post was a disaster. Like many others who try to understand how maximizer works always seem to stumble on how the box is formed.
I had drawn a simple illustration to show how this is done but I have come up with a better way to describe maximizer. The basics are simple.
0,0,0,0 are the EDGES of your screen. Everybody has different sizes for their screens but everything can be adjusted accordingly. Nothing mysterious about this. So lets use 1360 X 768 dimensions as an example. The common rule is : TOP, LEFT, BOTTOM, RIGHT when entering the numbers on MAXIMIZER. Also, to simply this even further, no matter what you enter this concept will always be TRUE. For instance:
TOP = 0
LEFT = 0
Then your BOX will always be in the TOP left corner of your monitor
if
TOP = 0
RIGHT = 0
Then your BOX will always be in the TOP right corner of your monitor
if
RIGHT = 0
BOTTOM = 0
Then your BOX will always be in the BOTTOM right corner of your monitor
and last
LEFT = 0
BOTTOM = 0
Then your BOX will always be in the BOTTOM left corner of your monitor
Now lets simply the other numbers. 1360 X 768 are the dimensions of your screen(may vary accordingingly). Now divide the numbers. 680 and 384. 680 will be the EAST/WEST size of your BOx (width). 384 will be the NORTH/SOUTH of your box(height). Now if you keep these numbers the size of the box will never change. Meaning if you MOVE the edges of your BOX from 0 to 30 for whatever reason then your box also move from the center by 30. Keep this in mind when adjusting your quadrants. To adjust back to center just decrease by 30 either width or height. I use 30 as an arbitrary number. Any number can be used.
Remember that when you move the edges towards center you are affecting the entire box. I hope this helps others. I know it can be a little daunting when first you encounter this program.
Read other posts on how to keep the game looking regular within the BOX. Maybe somebody could post that information with this post. thanks.

Wow. I read this the other day and kind of tossed it aside. I just read it threw really good, and I must say... :thumbsup:
Good Job man, it will really help people out. I would want to point out you should add some images or something, sometime people a better when they have a visual.
I managed to make my maximizer look cool, and I think Ill start doing it.

Very nice, read this and did not understand it, played with Maximizer last night for over an hour and got frustrated and dropped it.
Just looked at it again it and it kinda clicked. A couple of additional lines to add to the .ini file (these are the last two lines of all 4 of my Maximizer.ini's):
path = C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft
program = Wow.exe
...for windows if your wow is installed in the standard location. That will allow you make multiple Maximizer copies without having to have multiple wow installs. Haven't tried kicking them off all at once though.
So on my slave computer I have 4 folders called UL, UR, LL, LR (Upper Left, Upper Right, Lower Left, Lower Right). Changed the .ini file based on the info Diamndzngunz's post and now it works great!
Thanks Diamndzngunz!

Ok i m getting there, but i have tried a couple of things 1st) went into my confid in wtf on each one and set it to 1680x525 but when i run its horrble and streched, it doesnt want to share the window
2nd) i have tried messing about but i dont know how to put in the .ini where i want the picture on my screen i have had a little help but im still confused (this was without the wtf changes)
can anyone help pls
Thanks
ry
In
order to have WoW stop streching your screens, you need to go into your
WoW folder/WTF there should be a config file in there. Open it with
notepad and change the resolution to whatever you'd like.
I'm at work but i think the string in the config file is something like "SET gfxres 800x600"
I'm sure I'm not really close but that should give you something to work off of.found this post...i know there are others out there but i am having problems finding them :cursing:
Hey, i just joined and really dont know anything about this "dual-boxing" i saw a shaman on my server doing it and asked a couple questions and she recomended this website i just need to know if i can only use 1 computer and does the stuff you download cost money or cause viruses
keyclone

@Ishh
Howdy and welcome to the forums!
i cannot attest to the other apps, but keyclone does cost money, has no viruses (that would hurt my 10 year old company name), and does allow you to run multiple copies of wow on one machine... assuming your machine can handle it. it does a few tricks to help squeeze more fps out of your box.
here's a link to an example screen using keyclone's maximizer and multiple wows on one machine:

if you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a note.

so i cant dual box without buying the key clone program?

there are free alternatives... if you don't want to spend any money for your setup (keyclone is a one time fee).. but you end up with a lot of setup time, and less features

I am having a hard time with maximizer. I want to set up my window as Keyclone has here [Keyclone] PiP explained ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=4534'). I am using the maximizer that is in Keyclone.

what is maxfpsbk and maxfps? what should i put there?
keyclone
05-06-2008, 12:42 AM
maxfpsbk == maximum frames per second while in the background
maxfps == maximum frames per second while active
if you have a good machine... set maxfpsbk to 15 and maxfps to 40 or higher.
if your machine is just ok, set maxfpsbk to 5 and maxfps to 30
adjust accordingly

can get first window to work using this
#
# WoW Maximizer configuration file
#
# Open Readme.html for instructions.
#
# Lines starting with '#' are ignored.
# Remove the '#' from a line to use it and set the values you prefer.
## Display resolution. Leave this out to use the current display mode.
resolution = 1280x1024
## Display device. Leave this out to use the primary display.
# device = 1
## Keep the taskbar visible. Leave this out to use the whole screen.
taskbar = 1
## Make room at the bottom of the screen (for autohide taskbar).
## Arguments are top,bottom,left,right
margin = 0,512,0,640
## Increase screen brightness (gamma).
# gamma = 1.7
## Example 0: Use the current display mode and primary display.
#
# -nothing- This is the default behaviour.
## Example 1: Use 1600x1200, 32 bits per pixel, any refresh rate.

#
# resolution = 800x600
# frequency = 60
# bpp = 16
## Example 3: Use display 2, do not change display mode.
#
# device = 2
## Example 4: Use display 1, change display mode to 1024x768.
#
# device = 1
# resolution = 1024x768
## Example 5: My settings. Use 1600x1200, 75Hz.
#
# resolution = 1600x1200
# frequency = 75
## Example 6: Keep the task bar visible, use the current display mode and primary display,
#
# taskbar = 1
## Example 7: Keep the taskbar visible if set to autohide and located at the bottom.
#
# margin = 0,1,0,0
## Example 8: Increase screen brightness (gamma).
#
# gamma = 1.7
## Guild Wars (not 100% functional)
#
#program = Gw.exe
#title = Guild Wars
#class = ArenaNet_Dx_Window_Class
but trying to do the other windows doesnt work, either get an extremely thin line of wow or a Pixel square of it using any of the following
## Make room at the bottom of the screen (for autohide taskbar).
## Arguments are top,bottom,left,right
margin = 0,512,640,640 or 512, 1024, 0, 640 or 512, 1024, 640, 1280
are you using VISTA or XP on your PC? I also noticed that "device=2" had a # sign in front of it. Your second display would have its own coords. Its been awhile since I made this post. I can always help if you send me a PM and have access to ventrillo or teamspeak.
another thought....get your maximizer to work first on one machine then we can get it to work on the other.
## Display device. Leave this out to use the primary display.
# device = 1
Did you notice this?........by leaving the # sign in your primary display will default to your first device. To get the other device to work...remove # sign for "device=2" and use the coords based on that screen. Sounds like your trying to get both on just the one machine and this is why you get one like a thin wedgy.

Im trying to do the same as someone up there mentioned, dualbox with one being the top of the screen, and the other being the bottom of the screen. I currently use a 19" wide @ 1440 x 900
I know I need to change the resolution to 1440x450 but I cant figure out where I'd tell it to have the window be the bottom one, like what I'd put where to tell it to start from the middle of the screen instead of the top of the screen
------------------------------------------
Edit: Used the Keyclone Maximizer to get the windows how I wanted... however they're alll stretched! Im not sure what to do now, I checked and keyclone changed the WTF files to read as 1440x450 for SET gfx

WOW will stretch to fill in the box. Most likely this is a feature that KEYCLONE could adapt for us so the screen doesnt look stretched. For now though we need to make the adjustments ourselves when sizing the mini screen.
