hello all. thanks for great resources.

im still on the learning curve. been using mac with plexer. things are mostly working...... but....... I can't help but want more. I swore off windows several years ago, but those demo vids on ISboxer are very compelling.

What i think i want: ISBOXER. 5 clients on one machine. has to be a laptop. i could live with less than perfect video/fps stuff on slaves, but i can imagine doing pvp and having to switch to slave to continue the good fight.

my current laptop is: 2.53 intel duo, 4GB @ 1067Mhz, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 512MB
it gets a little shaky with 3, but is def playable. I have tweaked a few video settings, but bet i could do more. having hard time making enough room for bootcamp partition, but could be persuaded.

The question:
new macbook pro running bootcamp

2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz <- im sure i could upgrade that to 8
AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB GDDR5

---- or ------
m17X alienware

Intel® Core™ i7 2630QM 2.0GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
1.5GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M

From the million other post i have read, looks like the M17x would have no trouble with this? I think the new macbook pro could do it? not sure its worth the trouble of massaging my current mac to test it?

thanks again for feeding my new addiction
dave.

Make sure any Nvidia laptop you get does NOT use Nvidia "Optimus" Stay FAR FAR away from it if your primary focus is gaming. (And unless Lax has stealth fixed it ISBoxer can't launch games because of how Optimus works)

Just for completeness:

I ended up just getting the off the shelf best buy asus
It's seems plenty powerful. I have only had 3 clients so far but I'm in org without any video tweaks with no detectable lag

Just my two cents from a noob. Isboxer is sooooo much easier than messing with Mac. Very happy with the switch

You can use trial accounts, which are free.
Sure they cannot go beyond 10th or 20th, and have a bunch of restrictions on them.
But purely as a stress test in Org/SW... should serve their purpose.

With IS Boxer you can run dynamic settings macros.
Have the current window run Settings High.
And the slaves, Window All Without Current run Settings Low.
Make a mapped key for each.
And add two Do Mapped Key actions to your swap mapped key.

That way, the slaves have the least drain on system resources.
And the master/main/active window has the prettiest graphics/effects that your system can handle at a FPS level you're happy with.

Just to update this since this is the only thread we've discussed Nvidia's Optimus stuff.

It was previously not working with ISBoxer/Innerspace. I'm happy to say Lax has fixed this as of IS dev build #5432. I'm running fine w/ -d3d9 flag on Dev build #5433. If you've got an optimus system test it out and post your results.
