Just been reading a WH blog (http://wormholesroidsprofit.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html) and one of the points that's made is:

'Train for a Drake and a Tengu, you will be dissapointed with anything else'

I take it that's Drakes for Combat sites and Tengu for PvP defence?

Discuss :)

Tengu seems expensive to PVP in but I haven't priced components in a while.

Never thought of that one.

Maybe they're the successor to the Drake for combat sites then.....

Well beyond my skill range for now, but when I've finished pimping my drake and hulk skills.......Tengu's could be an option (because carriers are no good for a C1 WH :))

Tengu = Drake on Steriods, if you are PVE'ing almost anything you want a missile boat, and one of the best missile boats bar none for speed tanking, active/passive/buffer tanking, dmg output, utility is the Tengu.

I rarely pvp with my tengu, as i prefer a lok for pvpi, however i have pvp'd with a HAM tengu, i wouldn't recommend it unless you are a hardcore tech 3 pilot, and have a spare Hull or 2. I have lost several tengus to pvp and they do empty a wallet pretty fast.

From experience, most WH dwellers have a Tech 3 POS setup so they are building their own or parts of them to reduce the cost of purchase.

Actually, I kind of more meant it as a natural skill progression, as both ships are shield tanking missile boats. :)

I've fought against both, and watched them run combat sites in wormholes. I regret not training in either shields or missiles, so hence my statement. If you're a new player, go straight for those, and you'll be happy. And watching a Tengu tank an entire radar/mag site spawn of multiple sleeper battleships goes a long way to making my point. Armor tankers just can't do that. The DPS is just too high and we don't have anything like passive shield regen to help us out.

T3 ship prices have come way down, but losing a 500 mil ship instead of a 1 bil ship is still pretty daunting. But the sheer scare factor of them cannot be overlooked, as at least 60% of combat inside wormholes is in the psychology warfare dept. Which is my dept. :)

Yeah, the psychological side of it is something I need to improve (6 retrievers doesn't really intimidate anyone lol). Even when I have my drakes out I still lost my salvage ship to a cloaked myrm.

Think I will eventually train my 4 drake pilots into Tengu's, will just have to finish all the refining training for mining crystals first.

It's probably worth noting that Tengus are nearly irresistible gank bait for folks who would otherwise move on to something else, much like the other high-dollar ships such as CNRs. At least, that's what I gather from listening to folks in local and reading some of the forums.

Yeah, it's far in the future before I decide what combat ships I go to after the drakes. BS's won't fit in our WH so T3's look like the natural progression of similar skills.

But first I should really learn to setup ISBoxer for eve and start controlling all ships as a fleet rather than swapping to each screen to issue commands lol

I still want to do the stealth bomber hot drop on people! My only viable idea on how to set them up though is to sacrifice an Interdictor (not a HIC, but the destroyer class one) dropping a bubble on them (the Interdictor MIGHT live...maybe...) and then melt them from range with a hail of torpedo's from stealth bombers that they didnt know were there. A bait Maller is another option, but I've never used a bait ship to good effect. The worst problem in wormholes is the bad guy could be solo, or there could be 20 of them with HICs and T3's and HAC's coming out of their asses.

You can bait with Transport ships - the Caldari one can mount a pretty impressive shield IIRC and there are a number of battle badgers/badger bait build.

All my PI alts will be trained for stealth bombers, so will probably have the option to do that as well :). Don't know if i'll be able to control 8 stealths at once though.....

I'm picturing key broadcasting stealth bombers:

1. Move your Bombers to different safe spots or planets. Bring them in cloaked from different directions to the bait ship or even each other at 50km or 70km (you don't want to accidentally pop the cloak of one of your own ships).

2. Broadcast your fleet target.

3. Each ship needs to "keep at range" close to your max missile range (E default).

4. F2 Launch Torpedos, Alt F2-F4 (or whatever) your ewar/painters, etc

5. F1 Decloak your whole team

6. Target the broadcasted target (isboxer has some mouse sharing thing right?).

7. Blow the target into oblivion with torps from 50km + away.

Of course the hard part is pinning them into position and keeping your bait ship alive long enough to do all this. It sounds good in my head....

I've only done some basic work with using keycasting with ISBoxer but I think that a more reliable method will be to setup your Overview so it doesn't show your own ships (a PVP tab is best bet for this)

Then you can use the keyboard to switch to over view, scroll up to nearest target, then press a key to lock them. I'm using the arrow keys for overview selction/scrolling adn then T to lock.

But I haven't done more than a little PVE with this setup and only 3 ships. It works much better with identical ships in PVE.

The mouse broadcasting seemed a bit unreliable in comparison.

Evewinhelper is an option too. Individual click, but without flipping to another screen/character.
