View Full Version : How many WoW instances can this box pull?
Hello, I'm new to the multi-boxing / multi-WoWing idea, but completely fascinated by it!
So right down to the question, my main machine specs are as follows:
Gigabyte P35-DS3R
C2D Q6600 @ 2700mhz (300*9) [cooled by TL Ultra-120 extreme so I can push it further]
1GB*4 = 4GB Crucial Ballistix (1:1 @ 4-4-4-14 - haven't actively tested stability with tighter timings)
8800GTX @ stock speeds
2*74GB WD Raptors in a striped setHow many instances of WoW do you think I would be able to run comfortably on this on Vista x64 and on XP pro x86-32?
Thanks!

Hi pb13 and welcome to the forums!
how many it can support depends on the specs you'd like to achieve.
since you can adjust the maxfps and maxfpsbk, you should be able to get 5 on that box without a worry.
i would suggest maxfps(40+) and maxfpsbk(15+). watch the resolution you are using as that will drive up the # pixels to push
you could just get 5 test accounts and see how they perform.
i'd also suggest getting dual monitors.. it's just cooler
g'luck and have fun
Thanks for the quick reply!
I do have 2 monitors, 19" and a 24" widescreen, so should be good in that department.
The only thing I'm unsure of still is whether to run on Vista x64 or 32-bit XP, I have both licenses and just looking for performance gain (does Keyclone even work on a Vista x64?).
My thought:
Run with maxfps 30 on 4 of them (split over the 24" screen) and main on the 19" screen with maxfps 50.
I'll give it a try on test accounts, thanks for the advice.

don't forget to set the maxfpsbk... this is the frames per second while that window is in the background.
this will save cpu and gpu, giving you more performance for your foreground window.
also, consider turning your widescreen verticle.. turning your 1600x1200 into 1200x1600... and if you split horizontal, you get 2 screens that are 1200x800, almost perfect
it makes for a very slick look:

Should easily be able to run 5 instances on that machine. Several guys I know run 5 on almost that exact same setup.

i suggest one harddrive per wow session, helps alot on load times, i know it did for me on just 3 of them.
my setup is C2D Q6600 @ 3000mhz (333*9)
1GB*4 = ocz (800mhz 1:1 @ 4-4-4-15)
8800GTS 640MB BFG OC
2xseagate 250GB 16MB raid 0 (just my os)
4x250GB WD 16MB for (wow )
2x Benq 24" @1920x1200 (dualview)
i could run 4 wows fine at 1920x1200 (playable above 40-80frames each session depending on where i am.)
the gtx should help alot.

Can My Computer Run +accounts?

This is by far the most asked Question Here. What I tell people,

Its hard for people to judge your system just by specs, to be honest all comps act in their own way. Best thing you can do is get trial accounts and try it for your self. I would like to add Recommended hardware you should have.

Wilbur:
Q6600 - Recommended Processor
4GB DDR2 PC6400 - Recommended RAM
8800GT 512MB(+) - Recommended Graphics Card
Good brand 500(+)watt Power supply.
Without the above you'll only be gimping yourself if you want to do a 5 in 1.
