I'm ordering some parts to build a wow only box, probably just dual-core and mid-range graphics to keep costs down, I have a full win2k license that I'm currently not using and was wondering if anyone else is using win2k for wow + keyclone? I don't plan to dual monitor off of that pc as I'm eventually adding 3 other pc's and upgrading my main computer as well. Right now I'm running 2x wow's that follow my main on a single core sempron w/1gb and a 7300 GT AGP card as that motherboard does not have pci-e. 2 Wow's run fairly well when questing and instancing but lag a bunch when I go into major cities. I ran 4 on that box for a while to test and did ok until I hit SW, lol. I had to park 2 and toggle to walk to train 2 of my baby locks then go back and get the other 2. So until I can get 5 full boxes built (probably about 3 months from now) I'm planning on running 1 on my main computer, 2 on my sempron and 2 on the new computer I'm building.

Thumbs up or down on win2k pro? If I can save on buying another winxp license I can go for a 8800gt instead of something lower.

2k is the devil. I use it at work and it is the devil. Did I mention it's the devil? Oh, yeah, it's the devil. Avoid it like the plague, it's built for office duties, not gaming, go go gadget XP pro :p

I've never had gaming issues with 2k. Frankly, since SP1 I've never had issues with 2k at all. You'll be fine. The only reason I went to XP at all was for SLI support, then found out later that you actually can get SLI to work in 2k so meh.

The problem with your lag in cities currently is probably due to not enough RAM. WoW is RAM hungry, feed it lots. I'd go at least another half gig but that point, go 2GB.

Thanks for the replies!

Ete, my momma said Vista was the devil! ;)

Elo & Fur thanks, I think I'll probably use my win2k...updates and all.

In the future when I do get an additional computer should I consider Vista, wasn't there a problem with clone windows and wow performance? Anyone having serious issues with Vista?

After comparing prices I might wait 2 weeks and get 2 decent systems or 1 really good quad-core system instead of skimping and getting only 1 one dual-core right now.

In the mean time I think I'm going to get an X-keys pro but I'm not sure whether I should go with the USB or PS2. I'd like to keep my options open to hardware multi-box in the distant future with 1 wow on each computer without using any software key cloning. Any opinions on usb vs. ps2 for this in regards to X-keys pro?
