I am new to multi-boxing. Currently it is not not possible for me to do 5-boxing due to hardware limitations. Anyway I want to play with a friend of mine. I will use 3 boxes he will use 2 boxes. I thought about the following setup:
All bloodelves
Me:
1 Prot-Paladin (main)
2 Mages
Him:
1 Warlock (main)
1 Holy Priest
I also want to level up skills. So my paladin will go mining and skinning and the warlock will go herbalism and engineering. Other skills will be divided on the backup crew mates.
Id like to know what you think of that setup and how we should spec Warlock and Mages.
cheers
rene
wow thats a really cool idea, 2 multiboxers in one 5man, hah!
i guess your class setup would depend on what you wanna do, pve/pvp... but all i can think of is ellay with his dedicated arena healer pewpewpewpewheal!!!
and while i haven't been back at 70 with a healer for a while... i'd maybe consider a druid over a priest... but i like hots, not sure what is technically better right now.

We aim for PvE, but maybe we want to do some PvP, too. I guess the paladin will be useles in PvP? You still think druid is better choice for PvE?

I just set up a 5 box team comprising 3 Shaman (DPS), Paladin (tank) and a Druid (healer).
My main reasons were for buff synergy and utility, 3 Shaman seem optimum for overloading of Shaman buffs, combined with Mark of the Wild and the Paladin's Aura and Blessings.
Its just a shame I lose transport via portals and summons

Currently doing exactly this with a friend.
I control a Holy Priest, Elemental Shaman, Frost Mage
He controls a Prot Pali and a Frost Mage.
I would suggest the tank controls no more than his tank + 1 dps (or 2 dps of the same class is fine) Taking healing + tanking would be fine, but less versatile imo.
Your setup looks fine and should work nicely, but I do find having an off-healer with the shami very helpful, and we all love totems ;)
Your friend could consider a holy priest and a shadow priest, or a pali to heal and shadow priest (this is if you really want to roll all Belfs) otherwise I'd highly recomend a Shami in there :)

thanksYep. Priest is the main, the 2 mages and shaman follow me, and take their targets from me, I only target mobs to kill.
Macros to directly heal the tank on keybinds, and then mouseover macros. Also have a bar with no binds that has 5 buttons, 1 for each toon, clicking it renews that toon, shift+click casts PoM. Lots of possibilities with macros.
The keybinds for the alts are all represented on the priests bars with the proper icons, names and keybinds using Trinity Bars 2.
Using Keyclone on 1 dual-core PC, handles the 3 with 0 problems, and can play 5 without issues too.
So far we haven't had many problems, some bosses are a pita with alot of movement involved, but some practice and we usualy get them down :)
edit: the shami also has a set of healing macros, a chain heal for either mouseover or the priest (heals most of the immediate group) and mouseover macros for each heal, plus ones directly bound to the tank. The mouseover sounds a pain to begin with as it's on the other monitor, but I very rarely use them and when you do, you don't actualy have to select that screen, just throw the mouse over the large party layout click the macro and move it back. Tend to only use them alot of the priest dies and I swap to that character...

As there is a skinning macro, you better up Mining and Herbalism with your main and Skinning with the clone, don't you think ?
Macro is /cast [target=party1target, exists, dead] Skinning
of even /cast Skinning
Be sure to select the dead sheep before casting, and to add an /assist macro if necesary.

8| So obvious I should have thought of it on my own... but someone should throw that in the macro codex sticky... I am definitely gonna swap a few skills around soon. (good thing I'm just getting started)

Sadly doesn't work with Herbalism'ing the Zangarmarsh mobs or mining the earth elementals in nagrand... :(
I tried.
At least it works for basic skinning tho :D

My setup is slightly different than yours, but whoever you usually 'drive' with, should do the gathering. Let the trade skills be on the backgrounds. I have a skinner and an herbalist, and they're not drivers, it's a bit of a pain. But I'm looking at 4 in one and one in one. I catch the main's mining just fine, but I tend to miss herbs constantly

You can add /targetlasttarget too. My skinning macro is like this:
/targetlasttarget
/cast skinning
/assist player1
That way if I kill a creature my alt start skinning with only one key press but if I kill 3 at the same time, he skin the last and then I target the other 2 with my main and still work (/assist player1) :D
