Either i am just really shitty at this... or i'm questing in wrong areas

lvl 47 in tanaris/ferals

quests take like 20 mins each and only give like 5k exp >_<

In my opinion you are at the shitty part of levelling, the higher 40s. Expect the same crap in the higher 50s ;). Go do some searing gorge or some ST. Should help a lot since you can catch up a bit to the next set of quests.

It all depends, really. Are you doing a bunch of collection quests in there? Are you following a leveling guide? I highly recommend using a questing guide and questing 1-2 levels "ahead" of it, since you have multiple people and can probably kill +2/3 mobs with speed and ease.

I highly recommend using a guide like Brian Kopp's and skipping collection quests (unless they are part of a sweet chain or have an excellent reward).

At your lvl I recommend Searing Gorge; Thorium Point + the dragon guy nearby give alot of quests that overlap and give you insane quest efficiency, and alot of them are kill x quests(though they sneak a few collection quests in); start/finish hinterlands, feralas, then ungoro about 50ish, then hit plaguelands at 52ish, hit silithus/winterspring between 56 and 58, and I personally recommend avoiding outland till 60 so you maximize your ability to kill with less downtime/dmg taken/surviving better + quest exp efficiency

I'm finding that since the quest xp bonus and xp per level required reduction of the recent patch, some zones can be skipped entirely. For example, it's now possible to completely bypass STV without endless grinding to balance out the loss of xp in a zone. To encourage more people to buy the WotLK expansion, Bliz is making it incredibly easy to get to 70 to "require" the new content when it is released. I was following Jame's Alliance guide, but realized I was already level 33 (when before I'd start the guide at level 29), and skipped the Shimmering Flats (ton of collections) and STV quests, while still being 'ahead' of the guide. I suspect I'll end up skipping certain areas, such as the Swamp of Sorrows and most new Dustwallow Marsh quests as well, since I'll be so far ahead in level. For the 40's, I'll probably pass on Feralas.. and for the 50's.. Silithus.

OMG man you got to hit that 48 jump. I was stuck at lvl 46 for almost a week then got some more quests in tanaris. Ferals sucks. I did not quest there, not worth it.

Higher 40's SUCK!

I use Jame's Horde Levelling Guide - great guide and it's free:

He also has one for Alliance too:
