i have been asked about setting up commands and how to use the maximizer numerous times... so i figured i would put together a little bit of a tutorial for people to read.

NOTE: On vista, you MUST run keyclone as administrator (right-click icon, run-as administrator)

--

setting up the maximizer
--
keyclone/setup/maximizer
(assuming your maximizer layout is clear)

http://solidice.com/keyclone/keyclone_v1.7u_maximizer.jpg

1. hit the 'add region' button to create a new region
2. note the region name
3. position it appropriately
4. repeat for your entire screen
5. if you have multiple screens, use the display selector to go to the other screens layout
6. check 'enable maximizer' when done

Now you need to define a command
--
keyclone/setup/command editor

http://solidice.com/keyclone/keyclone_v1.7u_command.jpg

1. assuming you have no commands created, type a command name into the 'command name' field.
2. click the 'program...' button (make sure to select WoW.exe and NOT launcher.exe)
2a. if you selected wow.exe, the wow:username field should be enabled
2b. on vista, you are looking for the wow application.. NOT launcher
3. fill in the region name (exactly as typed in the maximizer)
4. check the wow:username
5. fill in the wow:username
6. set the maxfpsbk and maxfps
7. hit the 'add command' button
8. repeat for each command

now tweak the general settings
--
keyclone/setup/general
http://solidice.com/keyclone/keyclone_v1.7u_general.jpg

1. UNCHECK 'auto-add windows' field
2. make sure 'pass mouse clicks' is UNCHECKED
3. CHECK the 'focus follows mouse' option
4. CHECK the startup command
4a. command can be single or multiple commands
5. set the time delay after startup to trigger the commands
6. if you are using multiple keyclones, put in the ip and port of the remote keyclone

Hit "Ok' and exit keyclone.

once you restart keyclone, it should start the specified commands

Thanks Rob! :)
One thing to note I am going to be adding a Guides section on the top bar menu, so this information will be very easy to find and will not get lost. Will be placing this on that list.

Thanks! Noobs like me need documentation to "get it" :)

question: you have "distinguish left/right" checked in one of the example images. I thought I read somewhere else that we should un-check that option for wow, is that true? What does this option do ?

keyclone
02-11-2008, 05:37 PM
'distinguish left/right' will send LCONTROL or RCONTROL instead of just CONTROL (same with shift and alt)

this was an issue about 6 months ago within wow. i believe they dealt with it

Rob in my test runs on a Vista box I haven't run keyclone as admin, but I haven't seen any obvious issues. What is the reason for the "run as admin" requirement?

keyclone
02-13-2008, 12:02 PM
i ran into issues when linking keyclones between machines as well as sending keys to wow windows. these were resolved once i ran it as administrator. i believe the issue has to do with permissions and which application is allowed to interact with which application.

being admin overrides that and insures no problems.

if you are not running as admin, does your user profile have admin rights? might be the same thing (no one ever really knows in the wonky world of vista...)

purchased the license for keyclone and followed the directions on a previous post for for using the command editor. I can get keyclone to open one instance of wow but not two. I made the commands wow1 and wow2 and listed the usernames. I have even tried opening two keyclones, i got two wows to open but they were both for the same login. What am I doing wrong?

err... tough to tell with the short description. if you have vent, we could coordinate a chat and hopefully i'll be able to get you set up asap.

meanwhile.. are you sure only one of them ran? check the keyclone list for the 2nd one.
did it say 'no region available'? you may have specified the same region for both.
let me know how it goes.

Do you have 3 separate commands written in the command editor to open all 3 instances of WoW? The commands need to have different names. I use wow1, wow2, etc.

Then, you need to type in the command line of keyclone wow1; wow2; wow3; wow4; wow5

Give it a try.

was just about to edit my original post when you replied :P ive sorted it out and is working as intended now thanks though for the tip although it was my directories that were incorrect (cut and paste laziness ftw)

Ok i finally got my new system set up. Had a hell of a time getting the bluescreens of death to stop happening. running 2 8800 GTX cards with 4 gigs of ram. NOw i was playing a little with it last night just to test the FPS. In single mode SLI mode i can get anywhere between 150-400 fps at 2500 rez with full detail. haha too bad 5 wows can't run at those FPS heh. Anyway, had some time today to purchase a new serial key for the machine and installed the latest version of keyclone. I started to test the maximizer PIP thing and was able to get it to work although I have some concerns and i would apprecieate a little feedback please..

1. Without keyclone, just setting up the 5 wows and manually moving them between monitors etc I am able to get all 5 to play around 30-40 FPS and the main in the 50s no problem. Although it doesn't look appealing to see all of them in window mode and different sizes. So after setting up maximizer i noticed the following. For starters I can't seem to get the "start menu" tool bar to hide. So i am forced to play with the bottom toolbar showing and it gets in the way of the PIP at the bottom. Am i doing something wrong here?

2. The FPS dropped drasticaly using 1 monitor with 5 regions. Set the fps to 15-20 on the clones and main had it maxed out at 60-100. result.. the main gets 10-15 fps if lucky. and the clones get 15-35 fps.. some are 15 and some are 30s. very strange. I have not tried yet using 2 monitors being the main monitor as the main, and the second monitor holding the 4 clones in 4 quadrens. I will test this next. A buddy of mine is also having the exact same problems too..

3. another thing i noticed is when having all the PIP set up and the bad FPS, i checked out the resolutions and all of them said 800x600 which is strange cause they should all be at 2500x1600 rez as thats what the monitor is set to. And another annoying thing is once i go into the video options of wow and exit, it messes up all the PIP and takes up the full screen and then forced to close that wow application and restart it using keyclone to get it back to its proper region settings.

Thats basically it for now so any help and feedback would be appreciated greatly. Also note my cousin who has similar machine is having exact same problem and also with the bags and social bars not showing up in the main or pip windows.

Cheers

Howdy Hiarcs,

1. to hide your 'start menu' bar, right click it... properties... auto-hide

2. 1 wow doing full screen @ 400 fps is not the same as 4 @ 100 fps. the graphics throughput is only part of the problem. you also have the rendering.. which you multiplied by 4. graphics memory helps, and having multiple graphics cards MAY help, and should, but it depends on how they parse the work. personally, i'd have 1 card doing 2 wows and the other doing 3. this would maximize the gpu by reducing the amount of items each card needs to render. 2 or 3 views instead of 5

my suggestion? get 2 monitors and drive each off of one card. that'd prolly give you the best results

3. the resolution in the config.wtf is written by wow.exe after startup. it is its lowest setting. when you use maximizer, it will set the resolution within the config.wtf then fire up wow. your screen res doesn't come into this. changing the video config within wow means nothing if you are using maximizer. if you are trying to play without maximizer, then stay in-game.. exit keyclone.. in-game, change the video options.. exit the game... restart

as for bags not showing up.. that depends on the size (in pixels) of his wow regions. if they are small, consider using something like bongos to move the action buttons around

Thx for the response....

well my cards are 2x 8800 GTX 768 MB each.

I have 4 monitors so i can personally put the main on its own card or even share it with one other no problem and have the other clones on the other GPU using the 2nd or 3rd/4th monitor. I have done this with out using maximizer and get decent FPS no matter how I split up the throughput. But where we are getting the drastic FPS decrease is when we try to just use the one 30 " monitor. Where the main is on the left and 4 clones in pip on the right. For me i have the option to split up the throughput to get decent FPS (have not tried with maximizer pip yet). But my cousin only has 1 monitor and is trying to do it with just 1 video card which is a 8800 GT 512 . Although his FPS was the same as mine when trying to do it. 10-15 fps on the main and 10-15 on the clones. Is this FPS considered normal for using 1 monitor on this card (5 boxing) all with maximizer pip enabled? The monitor he is using is the Dell 3007 30" (2500x1600 rez).

also was a little confused on what you were talking about with the resolution in the config.wtf... So in the video game options even though it says 800-600 its not really set at that right? Should we be editing this file somehow to change the rez to get better FPS? or we are stuck with what it gives us? Cause in another post there is a picture of a guy who has the same setup using 1 monitor.. Just wondering if he is getting 10-15 fps for all 5 using 1 monitor..

Thx for the responses

Edit: I read this before but the forums are growing fast i don't have time to go searching for it... but i read before someone was having issues with the clones stopping the autofollow. I have finally been able to 5 box on one machine and noticed my clones are stopping autofollow every 100 yards or so. When ever i 2-3 boxed i never had this issue. so its kind of annoying me. I even tried enchanting the clones boots with minor speed increase but still happens. is there a solution to this ?

Edit x2: I had to reinstall vista 64 bit. having issues so no doubt the serial key i just bought will no longer work. What do you have to do to ensure i can use it once i get the machine running again?

Thx for the help last night on vent KC. Got it working good and now have a slightly different problem. Basically I set up the Max FPS to 75 when using KC. Now when i go to play wow with out keyclone and just 1 boxing solo.. I now can not get past 75 FPS hehe. Its as if Keyclone changed something permanately in the settings. I tried resetting all the settings in KC but no luck. Normally in single mode in wow i can get 150-400 FPS. So now its stuck at 75FPS (which i set when i set up all the regions).

How to make keyclone reset so it doesn't affect "normal" game play (1 box with out kc)

Hope that makes sense. look forward to your response.

Edit:ok after scratching my head for a few minutes rofl. i decided to look in the WTF folder Config file and i see there the settings are still active with the Max Fps etc. I suppose creating a back up of this file would of been wise before messing with maximizer hehe. Anyone have the original config settings? I dont' want to have to reinstall or anything.

Edit2: ok i followed the advice of one of your posts and have 5 copies of wow all named wow1-wow5 so each can have mods and macros saved etc. Now i was able to delete the WTF folder to resolve the FPS issue mentioned above.. it solved it for Wow2-wow5 however the wow1 is still set to Maxfps 75 even after deleting the WTF folder. Any ideas? The other 4 have been reset fine after launching wow it brings back the WTF directory. And wow1 does read as the others although its not resetting..

Edit3: Any ideas ?

Heya, just started using your Maximizer, cause it works better than macros.

Question though, is how can I setup Keyclone to do different setups? I have a 5 box team a 3 box team and a 4 box team, and they obviously dont use the same windows, how can I configure it to set up the windows I want different every time I start it up?

keyclone

to reset your fps.. you could always make a macro...

/console set maxfps 999

I must great job explaining it. But i think i'm not getting something right cause im having the same problems everyone else is having. I cant get it to open up more then one account. And i'm sure if i can figure it out how to get all 3 on one screen it would make my job a lot easier and i would probably get back into multi boxing full swing again.

I guess the part where im lost at is when you go to Command Editor i don't understand what am i suppose to put in the key map spot.

keyclone
05-30-2008, 12:36 AM
hello Giggawattz,

generally, 98% of the people will have no need for keymaps... so leave that clear.

each command is associated with 1 region. the region is where the window produced by the command will be placed.

the region name specified in the command, must match the name in the maximizer layout editor. by default, the names are similar to 'region1', 'region2', etc... except without the quotes. note that the names are not '1', '2', '3', etc... but the entire string

if you are still confused, please let me know and i'll try to explain it better.

Rob

Well i went back and double checked everything and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. The only thing is i still get one to load and it still takes up the full screen? Would love to try to figure this out cause i hate trying to multi box 4 toons and not being able to see my other 3 at all. But its getting late ill play around with it tomorrow if you got any pointers what to look for send them my way.

keyclone
05-30-2008, 01:54 AM
if the wows show up, then the problem is how you specify the regions in the command
also, you will want more then 1 command... basically, 1 per region... each command with its own region name

Giggawattz
05-30-2008, 07:56 AM
ya your right my bad my command where messed up had a space in them thanks a lot hope to get this up and going now.

Now a quick question how do i turn the resolution back to normal if i decide to play just one toon? Instead of having the streatched look?

keyclone
05-30-2008, 08:59 AM
stretched? nothing should be stretched. if the image is not perfect, you choose the wrong resolution in the maximizer.

also, you must restart your wow if you change your resolution in the maximizer layout editor.

otherwise, log into wow without keyclone running.. and go to video settings and set them as you would normally.

Giggawattz
05-30-2008, 09:26 AM
I guess what im trying to say is when i use key clone it opens up nicley like all the toons are on my screen nice and neat and i can get everything to function right. But when i open wow without using keyclone i get a small wow window so i open it to make it full size to fit the monitor and it streaches the image. So everything looks tall and narrow. So the only way to fix this for now is to go back into the WTF folder delete the config folder and re open wow and redo all my UI's so i can play normal.

I get what your saying but its like the game doesnt open up all the way instead it looks like im playing it through a window. Like i can see my vista tool bars on the bottem and window closer on the top.

So is it key-clone thats making the adjustments in my video settings and saves them when i open it with keyclone to multi box?

If there no way around this ill just wait to pick up another monitor and do what i have seen some guys do just run my main on one monitor and run 4 on the other.

keyclone
05-30-2008, 10:16 AM
yes, keyclone has to modify the config.wtf in order for the wows to show up properly in maximizer.
going to video settings in game would be enough to reset it.
if you cannot see it, then use keyclone to start a full screen wow, only 1, and then exit keyclone. then you'll have access to the video settings.

Giggawattz
05-30-2008, 01:27 PM
Got it figured out once again after playing with the video options just gotta go back and reset it to full size screen then click on the window option. They must of added that in the video settings in the game. Thanks a lot now i got it figured out how to set up maxamize now its time to play with two computers and see if i cant just leave my main screen full size and use the second monitor to show my other 3 toons.

Just bought Keyclone and got it up and running in about 20 minutes.

Wish Keyclone came with more documentation -- I found this thread Googling...

#1 useful piece of information in this thread: Keyclone doesn't work right if you don't run it as Admin... XD
