Hey, im not new to mmo's, but im new to dual and or multiboxing. I recently played wow, played since beta, but got bored. I recently started Vanguard and i love it. A friend of mine just started 5boxing in wow, and i was thinking about maybe trying to dualbox in vanguard, but first want to make sure it is possible before i buy a second account. I have two computers, 3 monitors (2 lcd and 1 srt). 2 keyboards and 2 mice.

So, anyone think it is possible to control a toon on both computers at the same time with only 1 keyboard and 1 mouse in vanguard? I could also try 2 toons with same computer, if 2 clients runs on one computer.

Thanks for any help or ideas.

Edit: I have to dualbox without getting any hardware, im poor as hell these days.. so software has to do. (Dont mind paying like 10$ though, ie, for keyclone if that works.)

I'm not sure if I can run 2 vanguard clients on a single computer, cause you have to launch it through a launcher, and the launcher doesn't give you the option to launch a second client afaik. So my guess is that I would have to use both my computers, but the question is then what software I should use. I've heard Keyclone should work nicely when it comes to keystrokes, but what about mouse movement/clicks? Any software that does that stuff? Would appreciate any answers or ideas on this, I would test things out if you are not able to do it yourself (cause you don't have vanguard etc). Just give me something to try, as I have no knowledge of multi or dualboxing myself. Thanks!

Hey there.

Fledgling Vanguard dual-boxer here. ;) I have been at it for a couple of months now and hope to be able to help you a bit on your questions:

Vanguard & Computers
You're right, the launcher prevents two instances of the game running at once, although I think there are programs like Innerspace or Sandboxie that might allow you to run multiple VG instances on the same PC. I didn't try that myself and am using two PCs since I'd guess that memory usage of more than one VG might go through the roof quite fast, especially with memory leaks lurking here and there....

Software
What I currently use to make live a bit easier is Octopus which you can find there: [Octopus] Octopus 1.1.0 - .NET / C++ Hybrid Boxing Software ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=1906')
I am rebuilding my setup atm, but can tell you what I did up until now. I used to dualbox a Dread Knight / Cleric combo with the DK being on the main PC and the Clr on the secondary. So far I didn't work too much with actual key sharing so cannot comment too much on it yet, but what I'd do was, place the secondary keyboard next to my main one and then utilize the numpad hotbar (added for example with the DroxUI) with my left hand, while running the tank with mouse and if necessary right hand key pressing. Not impressive or super efficient but it works. I didn't bother with a second mouse since I could just flick the "main" mouse over to the other screen if necessary. Of course this also allows you to use the main keyboard on the second computer while the mouse is "over there" but I prefered to have a second keyboard close in case I have to move the secondary char while also doing something with the main.

It's quite dependant on what classes you are planning to play too. The more similar they are, the easier to set something up that allows you to (for example) cast nukes on both chars simultaneously, the more difference the more you have to take care of their different abilities. What I'd suggest is, stay away from "high maintenance" classes, for example within the healer archtypes the Disciple and the Bloodmage require much more attention than lets say the cleric, which is much more straightforward.

Hope I could help a little, although I am quite the newbie with dual-boxing myself. :)

You play in Window mode since you can move the mouse from screen to screen? I've used Synergy a while, not for gaming, but for other purposes. But when I move the mouse from the window where I have Vanguard running (in fullscreen), to the other monitor, Vanguard minimizes itself, which sucks :( And running Windowed mode is out of the question, lags way too much :(

Octopus mouse sharing works fine for me in fullscreen. Had the same problem with Synergy after my latest reinstall which kinda made me try out Octopus. :)

I triple-box in vanguard using Keyclone and KaVoom-KM (you don't need the KaVoom-KM but it really makes it nice moving between computers.) First of all, the launcher in Vanguard does not prevent multiple instances from running (but you have to have multiple accounts - no running chars on the same account). But you do need to be in WINDOWED mode for this to work. Using keyclone, you will use the ADD button on the main window to Keyclone. I use two computers, only because I like to run my main char alone, and use the second computer for the multiple instances. You have to manually add the VG instance to Keyclone. You cannot use the "auto" function in the general setup. So you would click on the Add button then click in the middle of the game window. You do this for each instance you are running. If you use the maximizer, you right-click on the instance in the Keyclone window and select the region you want it to be assigned to.

This link will show my windows when running. Notice that on VG, Keyclone cannot strip the window borders like it normally does with other games. This is a VG attribute (something about running windows on top of windows is best I can describe it)

Whats your machine like if you don't mind me asking, I am hesitent to try because I remember vanguard being a resource hog?I have two machines. The one I used for multiple VG accounts is an intel dual-core, 2.4ghz processor, 4gig ram, an Nvidia 8600 with Vista64. I use a raid drive setup. If you like VG, you should give Warhammer a shot. Leveling is less tedious, since you can gain XP from PvP as well as PvE.
