The new 590 is gonna have 2 GPUs on it. Anybody know if that means it will have the same limitations for multiboxing WoW as 2 cards with SLI? I'm deciding whether to wait a few days for the 590 vs ordering a 580 now.. Rest is ordered and otw and I have a backup card to hold me over if I decide to wait.

ATI 6990 has two GPU and is available for about $700. I saw a review saying how good it was vs the cards out right now. They said to reach its benchmarks you need two top of the line cards in SLI or Crossfire. I am sure the Nvidia double GPU will be good as well. If I had the money I would by the ATI right now.

The latest build from Tom's hardware has 2 6850s and kicks the 570s butt both in price and power usage.

As for the dual gpu cards, Ask Lax, as he got SLI working in ISboxer, I think Windows 7 also let them work

I used to use the last generation of Nvidia dual GPU cards the 285GTX. It was a combination of 2 x 375GTXs and if you look into the Tomshardware tests, it performed worse than a single 275GTX in WoW. WoW does not handle SLI well at all. If you are running multiple monitors then it may be worthwhile because you can run one monitor off each card using Isboxer. If you are running a single monitor then just get the GTX580 now. This is what I am using on a 30" screen and it is brilliant.

The fuuu???
285 was single GPU, 295 was dual GPU. And what the hell is a 375?

Sorry, was up with my new baby in the middle of the night and obviously slightly sleep deprived.
Meant 295 with 2 x 275s rather than the 285/375 combo :P Either way, stick with getting a 580 unless you're running dual monitors.

Aren't 3xx series for portables only? O_o

HOW IS BABBY FORMED? (grats)
Oh, one of those. I'd use a 580 even if I ran dual monitors. I'm certain it could take the load.

ain't the 5xx series meant to run Eyefinity? (3 monitors) Seems 3 or 5 WoWs would not be a big deal.

5xx or 5xxx?
5xx series does not have Eyefinity since they are Nvidia cards (=^.^=)
Nvidia 3xx series are for portables only

Yes, I was talking about Nvidia cards. Ok thanks for the correction. Still 5 WoWs should run on either 5xx/x series.

Can anyone with a dual gpu card shed some light on how it will run with multiple monitors? It is my understanding that if you have multiple monitors the only real way to go is nvidia since crossfire does not kick in for non fullscreen apps. What about dual gpu cards from ATI, will the user see benefits when using 5 windowed wows?

Oh dear, there is much ignorance in this thread.

They can run NVidia Surround, which is multi-monitor (3), but it requires the cards to run in SLI for it. You can use any card from the 2XX series onward (assuming driver support, at least this is what I read)

No eyefinity, but as mentioned above there is Nvidia Surround

I dearly dearly hope it could run five instances of wow, considering many people were boxing on 8800s, myself on a 9600GT for a while. Then the 2XXGTX cards from nvidia came out. Each next iteration does it better.

Just like using a single gpu card with two(+) monitors?
World of Warcraft doesn't benefit from SLI/Crossfire. What dual GPU cards/multi-GPU setups allow you to do is split up the rendering of slaves between GPU cores to increase overall performance. It all depends on how you set it up.

I 5 box with an ATI 3870 if that answers any questions on if it can handle it. Your standard mid end ($200) card will be fine for 5 boxxing wow.

I don't know if you can classify this in the same type as the 6990 but I use the 4850x2 card. This card is basically 2 cards in one. Its not a dual gpu on 1 card like the 6990. I run it in crossfire and run two monitors from it. It's an older card so I need to upgrade. However, it runs pretty well in non traffic areas.

This is partially true. Eyefinity is an ATI brand name/trademark/whatever. NVidia multimonitor is called Surround Vision.

Looks like the two setups are pretty comparable.

Exactly. Thanks for confirming. GTX295 with 3 video connectors and GTX590 all support triple-monitor without SLI.

I've ran 8 WoWs on a crappy $75 ATI card.

Yes, but in what areas and at what settings?
