View Full Version : Slave Movement: Strafe or Turn?

Like many multiboxers, I use the four arrow keys for slave movement. I had been using the side arrows to turn (for breaking follow while not interrupting casting) until this weekend when I got to forge of souls and needed to get out of dark pools of death faster. ( I MBed two of the lich king 5 mans at level 79, then took my dps and tank in with a friend healing and finished HOR. All the bosses were one shots except the final boss of FOS and the freezing waves boss in pit of saron (that one I got "the first attempt after my first attempt!" much to the amusement of my SO).
Would it be really weird to have one of the side arrows as a turn and one as a strafe? Does anyone have keys for both? (6 slave movement instead of 4? if so where do you put them?)
Just gathering general thoughts as I enter cata content and tweak my settings.

I use shift plus WASD to mirror regular movements. When I need to turn everybody (like halls when she blinds the group) I turn broadcasting on and hit normal turn keys.

The most useful setup I've found, which enables me to do instances better, is using WASD for moving my main toon, then Q and E are set to broadcast to ALL (including main toon) to TURN left/right, rather than strafing on just the main toon. Then I also have the arrow keys set to broadcast to SLAVES ONLY to to forward / back / strafe left / strafe right.
I should also note that I us ISBoxer to accomplish this.

Whats interesting, I was going to post asking about this, as I have some issues in some instances on movement.
I use WASD, how do you set Q and E to broadcast too ALL ?so I can do teh same thing to turn left/right ?
And same idea for slaves too broadcast using the arrow keys ?

How you do it depends on what key broadcasting software you use. If you are using ISBoxer, it's a matter of creating and/or altering movement keymaps inside ISBoxer. I have no idea how to do it in other software.

I've been using WASDQE for the master only.
And the arrow keys for the slaves only.
With forward being forward (fastest means to get them out of somewhere).
If I was doing it from scratch, and wasn't used to my setup.
The slaves would use:
Insert/Page Up = Turn
Home/End = Forward/Back
Delete/Page Down = Strafe.

I have been using ESDF for forward back and strafe (and mouse turning) on my main toon. I use x and v to strafe my slaves and the arrow keys are broadcast to all windows for turning and fwd / back.
I switched to ESDF 4-5 months ago and I wish I had done it sooner. So many more keys to bind that are quick and easy to push now.

I use arrows for all move, WASD for master only, QE for strafe all.

I have a mouse with two thumb buttons... What I ended up doing was mapping one of the buttons to CTRL and one to ALT (or SHIFT... I can't remember). Then in IS Boxer I mapped melee strafe right and left to CTRL - RIGHT and CTRL-LEFT and ranged strafe right and left to ALT - RIGHT and ALT - LEFT.
That way, I can move the tank by not using the modifier keys, move the casters and melee independently, and holding down both thumb buttons allows me to move both groups at once (though not the tank)
