View Full Version : About paid char transfers
So i'm hoping some of you here have some experience with this, i'm totally new to paid char transfers. What i'm curious about concerns transferring characters from one account to another.
I read blizz's faq on the subject and they specified 3 criteria to be eligible to transfer characters to different accounts:
1) You must be the subscriber on both accounts
2) Both accounts must have the same last name
3) You must know the answer to the secret question of the destination account
Where i'm still fuzzy is on point 1. Do i have to be the original subscriber on the account? or simply the person paying the bill currently? The situation is this, last year my brother started to sub an account but he got bored w/ the game at like lvl 29 on his war and dropped his sub. Now, i have his access info etc, know his secret question, and we share the same last name, so if i reactivate his account do you guys think it will be possible to transfer one of my characters over to his account from one of my original accounts?

Iirc, you have to have the Billing Account on both--your credit card is the same/same billing address/same billing name, not the original.
Same last names makes sense too for family related accounts.
And yes, the secret password for the account being transferred into is required.
alright, that makes me feel like i can do it. I'll get the process started today and report on my findings.

quoted from the FAQ
Regarding transfer requests from one account to another account, note that you may only request character transfers from one account where you are the subscriber to another account where you are the subscriber. Any attempt to transfer a character from an account where you are not the subscriber could be considered a violation of the World of Warcraft Terms of Use and could lead to Blizzard taking disciplinary action against your account, including, but not limited to warnings, temporary account suspension, or permanent account suspension, as determined by Blizzard.
The ownership details must match otherwise it is a violation of the EULA/TOS, yes the last name on the registered account owners need to match for this to take place, if your willing to take the risk of not being found out by Account admin then go for it :D

You must be the subscriber on both accounts simply means the same as the second that your last name has to be the same...
Billing info is not required to be identical. I pay for 3 of my accounts with my bank card and the 4th bills to my paypal, I moved a character from a bank card billed account to my paypal billed account with no problems.
Ah but see the thing is i am the subsciber now on both accounts. The only difference between the two now is the original name on the account (my brother's name). But since we are both of the same last name i thought i'd risk it an see if i could get the transfer approved.
Much to my chagrin, i realized the toon i'm trying to move is the guild leader of my shaman trio's guild >< so i'll have to wait till i get home tonight to see if i can finalize the process. :cursing:

Yes Zanthor you are correct.
Full ownership details need to match, within family with last name (surname) or friends with same last name (surname) is risk-eh!

I moved some characters from one account to another without any problems. The first account was one I set up for my wife who NEVER one time used it so I took it over. That account has her name on it and the other my name. I moved some characters from the account that is in my name to the one that is in her name. Honestly though they are both my accounts, and she never touched them. I was a bit concerned when I first did it because even that being the case I was afraid I would get a ban because of the first name, but that didn't happen.
As long as the last name is the same, and the contact location is the same you should be good. I don't think they look at the billing information as I use a mixture of credit cards and time cards for my 3 accounts.
awesome,
thanks for that info mlwhitt, it puts my mind greatly at ease.

Even if it's not the same last name, you can just say just got married / civil union. :D

Even if it's not the same last name, you can just say just got married / civil union. :DI know you were trying to be funny, but I have a husband/wife team in my guild that has been trying to transfer a character between accounts for half a year now. Same last name, same credit card/name in billing. Just different first names. They've even sent in a copy of marriage certificate.
No dice on transfer...

No dice on transfer...Technically you are not supposed to transfer between even couples, though the line is a bit unclear if you say the secondary account is your minor child. That being said I had no problems with my transfers between the account I set up for my wife (but she never used) and my account. Different first names, same last names, same address.
I have transferred multiple characters amount those two accounts without any problems. Who knows maybe they spot check these from time to time and that is a reason for the difference. The main point is that as long as your addresses are the same and the last names are the same, you shouldn't run into any probems at all. If anything you could claim that the second account you purchased for your minor child and moving his character off from your account to his own account (legally per the EULA you can share your account with a minor offspring).

DIDN'T let me move a char, until I changed paying info one one of them!

That's odd. I transferred between two of my own accounts with 2 diff. first names (one was a shortened nickname version of my full name, 2nd was my full name) and it went through no hitches. I dunno if it just reads the first few letters or if its a full name match but I've never had to have same first name, only last name.
Well i managed to get the character transfered :)
but then i get an email today saying once you open a wow box and break the seal on the CDKey, that copy of wow cannot be gifted etc. etc. etc. But you know, if i'm the one paying the sub and blizz decides to ban me, Customer service will get an earfull since i bought the damn copy myself.

Yeah if they ban a single box player they may just get another copy of the game. They ban one of us two-boxers they are going to lose out on anywhere from $30-$75 a month.
