View Full Version : Hunters so much more viable than I thought now that Deadzone is almost non-existant.

I have heard a lot of downplay on multiboxing Hunters most of which I am sure comes prior to the Deadzone reduction. I have to say that one of my two-box groups is a Hunter pair that is going to be a BM/MM pair. So far I haven't seen no problems with range or survivability and this prior to pets.
Had anyone done any major work with a hunter duo now that the Deadzone is almost non-existant? Any pointers?

Nothing to note except that it is insanely fun! :)

hmm might actually be good to do 2 BM specs if you only have 3 accounts and 1 healer

I fully intend to tribox hunters soon...I already have a 70 hunter on another server I can use to boost the lowbies ;)

If you can sponsor your lowbies with ammo pouches and 14+ slot bags, hunters are very fun classes in PVE. I haven't tried them again since the deadzone removal but they were a PITA in PVP when it was still 8 yards. Also very easy to run instances with. Their pets are excellent pocket tanks for everything short of heroics.

I have managed to get my team of 4 hunters and a Paladin to 29 so far, no deadzone has made it very easy, the pet's seem to be much better than the equivalent Warlock pet's, the dps 4 hunters put's out is insane.

Hunters could already solo alot of elite quests pre-bc(I only grouped for instances lvling my hunter; almost everything else I solo'd with my trusty boar Bebop, and he also Offtanked trash in AQ20 ;p), I can only imagine what you could do multiboxing them + the deadzone + talent changes that've happened since then. Not to mention it'd be hilarious to watch 5 of them FD at once lol
Then think about the practical applications, where speccing them all differently would be a GOOD thing for once...BM For "MT" pet + Ferocity buff to entire party, Marksmanship hunter for TSA buff to party, maybe a Surv(ewww) for improved frost traps to kite with...let alone having 3-5 imp conc shots, can we say stunlock? And the dps output's even better than casters because Ranged dmg isn't affected by Glancing/underlv'd fights, aka if you're a lv19 fighting a lv24 you'll still do full dmg(I kited and solo'd Bellygrub at 19 and he's 24, and solo'd the lv38-40 elite ogres in alterac at the same lvl, and even dinged 40 specifically on them cuz they gave 800+ exp a kill); damnit now i'm gonna have to roll my hunters...so much power a Shaman would be jealous :p

Well like you said even one hunter does feel OP. With my two lowbies that I have been working on they feel very OP. Only my baby locks feel even remotely as OP. I have an Orc for the 5% pet Damage that I will be speccing BM and a Troll for the +5 to bows that will be BM. I am debating adding a third hunter Tauren to the mix for Survival but hoenstly i think just the two in play will be EZ mode, considering that with the pets you same as have a four person group.

It is very rare for any mob to last longer than 1 melee attack so far, if they make it past the shoot sequence they die after getting hit by 4 2-handed Axes..

I've been running 70 bm and 52-55 bm thru brd. Except for not finfing lyceum, we can do the whole instance. This is prior to keyclone, but my only problem was getting the other pet to aggro. Aggressive doesn't seem wise no matter what level. And with the 70 tanking taking the lead, i'm finding it difficult to engage the 2nd pet effectively. Hopefully this all goes out the window with keyclone and even just tiling the windows. And using a simple macro, thanks to this site, I can more easily engage the second hunter without care if it comes to melee. As the macro can make it auto follow after combat. The last time I did it, I was pure manual two keyboards/mice. Took about 6 hrs, and that's god awful slow, but the breaking to switch between boards time and again is part of it. Eh, it was free ench mats and a couple nice upgrades.

If you were to 5 box, what would you team up with hunters for Pvp and PVE?
Would a Pally (healer) + 4 hunters be a good team or
Priest + 4 hunters be good
Do you need a tank if you go BM for heroics?
Priest, squishy but nice aoe healing spells, and nice sta buff
Druid, less squishy, nice hots also nice buff with gotw
Pally, not so squishy, no hots, difficult heal targetting (9 targets to click), but nice buffs bom and bok
think if you also want to go pvp a druid would be nicest, with the hots and bear form to turn in to when taking on a group that aims for the healer, and if you go bear you can give your group a nice 5% crit increase .. think they all have nice pro's its just a bit of seeing which con would be bad in your play style

So I got my trio of Hunters on Ravencrest up to 12 the other night. I must say that Zugshot, Zenshot and ZenZen are tearing up the town. I am using a boar and two cats and so far I am dropping equal level mobs within maybe 15 seconds. I am loving it.
I have been getting harassed though. Had a Druid and a Paladin following me around messing with me. I said I was a 3 boxer and not a bot but they still harassed me. I guess playing 3 boxed hunters I am asking for it as everyone naturally thinks that hunters are either bots or gold farmers. Oh well.
I have seen a lot of 4-hunters and 1 shaman setups recently, thinking of doing that myself (If I ever get started)

I am fixing to add a fourth Hunter to the mix this week. I have another hunter that I can transfer over to a new account so I think it is worth trying.
Right now my setup on my 3 is:
Orc with Boar pet (Full BM)
Troll with Cat Pet (Full MM)
Orc with Cat Pet ( BM/Surv hybrid)
So far it works great. I have the second orc follow the troll who follows the lead and with a single point in hawkeye I can use him from the rear without having to use my positional macro.
I am only at 15 with them right now but at this point the Troll is leading the DPS by a good margin, mostly because he is the one that I am giving any +agl gear. I have thought about placing the other orc's pet with a boar for an off tank, but for right now Hunter 1's boar has not had any problems holding aggro.
As far as the two cats I have turned off growl on both of them and let them use full focus on clow and so forth. The funny thing is though with my current setup my boar's charge puts him on the target way ahead of the cats and I haven't ran into an equal level mob yet that can hold up to the boars Gore and 3 Arcane shots and not fall by the time the cats get to the mob.
I realize that Hunters have always been the kings of taking on mobs orange and red to them. I do think it is funny that the 3 hunters are able to drop mobs 5 and 6 levels higher quicker than the other classes can drop a single equal level mob.
One thing that I have found though (at least pre-trap) is that if my lead falls or if I get adds from the rear I can get screwed over pretty quickly.

I've started 5 x orc hunters, sending in 5 x boar to mince up the enemy is insane :) Only level 10 at the moment, but I'm aiming for lvl 19 wsg twinking, should be fun times!!
Clothies are going down for sure :)
