View Full Version : I'm going to boost, need a solid answer
Ok, I have a 70 lock with ~800 +dmg, spec'd demonology (20/41/0). 10k hp, 7k mana. Also have a 68 Ele Shaman for my shaman group.
All instances until 42 (end of SM) are going to be EZ-mode. Will a lock be able to take on ZF solo? BRD? Scholo I know I can't... I take out the first two groups, and fail on the third. This was with SL/SL spec though. If I go in through the service enterance, will I have better luck? Are the pulls from there less stacked?
Next question being, I'm setting up my series of accounts (dual-boxing as of Friday, next will be tri, then quint). Anyhow, I'm guessing tri will be within a month, and quint in 3 months. Should I roll a prot pally or a mage for the upper level boosting? IE Scholo.

Prot Paladin is the best optimum AoE in BRD from 40-55.
Elite mobs in instances are tougher on casters as far as AoE. Small packs are ok, but there's downtime every few pulls.
Did you try questing, with your pet doing /petattack, and you doing no damage.
Have your Shaman team grouped by themselves and tag mobs. You assist with /petattack only.
Your shaman team will get full exp as if they soloed the mob w/o help.
This means you go do the quest leveling route.

A lot of things will work well, even unconventional specs/classes. It's just a matter of efficiency.
For example, you'll hear a lot about Prot Pallies and BRD-- but I found that I had much better success doing some powerleveling in BRD with my L70 Pally as retribution and my 3xShammies dropping Str/Agi/Windfury/Healing/Mana Streams just outside of aggro range. I could heal the pally occasionally and keep the mana regen going without drawing heal aggro onto the shammies, too. It was faster and better XP/hour than trying to Prot AoE them down. I had slightly better gear on the ret side, but I found that my BRD runs were more fun and more efficient tearing through mobs as Ret. (2000 AP, 28% Crit, Epic Sword plus Windfury totem is damn nice against BRD elites!)
That said, I don't really recommend instance powerleveling all the way to the outlands. It's boring, it suffers from questionable efficiency post L40 compared to post-patch-2.3 quest XP, and you don't get much chance to tweak your setup/macros/techniques. Post-SM, I was frustrated by trying to powerlevel through ZF, got equivalent (or better XP) when I did other instances, and basically only ran BRD, Scholo, and other instances to complete high-XP dungeon quests.
40-58 goes very quickly by questing... It's a great learning opportunity as well.
It might be better if you laid out exactly who you have at L70 already (and on which accounts), as well as which classes you are trying to level to go with them.

Preassumptions: I'm 90% PvP oriented. I would like to do Steamvaults with my Shaman setup when I am at 5-box status.
Current account = Level 70 Lock, level 68 ele sham.
Second account = Empty
-- Who I'm leveling to 40 --
Third account = Level 12 warlock (cousin's)
Fourth account = Level 11 ice mage (friend's)
That is excellent info! On that note, it seems like it would be more beneficial to make a Warrior to boost a shaman team post 40. However, I don't want to spend a bunch of time leveling this that and the other just to improve leveling time... lots of work and redundancy.
Sounds like I should just boost to 40 in SM. Then go the quest route, using my lock to tap-level with his pet, and to refine my macros.
Thanks for the input!

If you plan on multiboxing with 2+ accounts, I strongly recommend that they all be your accounts with your identical name, address, contact info, etc...
You will come under scrutiny at some point by a GM, and it's much better for all the accounts to really be yours 100%. If you are just powerleveling some friends, it's not a big deal, but the first time your team sees a capitol city or PvP, you're going to get reported.
:) Wouldn't have thought of that!!

Yep, definitely make sure you own all the accounts and they all have the same name/address/etc on them. Else, you'll just get temp banned until you go through a really long annoying process of faxing your contact info to Blizzard and waiting for them to update things.
I talked to 3 different GMs my first week alone, from being reported by various people. I'm still around, but strangely the guy who was cursing me in all caps in /say in the middle of IF has disappeared off my "friends" list... :whistling:

To be perfectly honest, quest after 50, if not after 40.
I have no definitive information supporting the fact that this is quicker, but:
1) You'll need to get to know your group instancing properly (even if boosted by a 70)
2) The efficency of a 70 boosting your guys in 55+ instances isn't anything compared to their efficiency boosting to 40.
Just my 2c
PS: What they said RE accounts, be careful, or be very pissed
