Is there any point in setting up a small POS for corp storage/fitting and possible research in the future? Or should I just keep renting an office?

Depends on if you plan on doing more. I personally when i get back to playing EVE, and being in highsec again, will drop a POS in a sec 6 system where i will be mining or basing out of. There are other useful things to put up in a POS, like Labs if you plan on doing manufacturing & Research.

If you plan on doing research like i assume you will want then, setup the POS when you are ready to do that. POS fuel has gotten very very expensive.

If you have no need for any POS Modules there is really no need to setup a POS in highsec, when you talk about 0.0 or WH space then that response changes.

Never, ever, refine anything other than ice at a POS. Your yield is capped at 75% or some stupid low number. For a solo miner, a POS would only provide storage of ore without the dock/undock cycle, or allow you to transfer to a freighter for hauling. IMO, not really worth it, but not a huge waste if you use a small POS. This is assuming that there is a station where you mine. If the system is empty, then a POS makes getting the Ore somewhere safe much faster.

Of course ther is one problem with a POS, it's a target, especially for a corp that wants to put their own POS up where yours is. Speaking of which, Souca you should check your EVE mail ASAP....
