View Full Version : Zolotips - Addon to help decide who gets loot
I've found it rather frustrating trying to figure out which of my toons should get loot. Despite searching long and hard on these forums and the net at large I couldn't find a simple solution. I took action and scratched together an addon to help. The addon just adds some info to equippable item tooltips. It goes through party members and list items that match the same slot. All I'm interested in is the iLvl, name of item and owner, from that I can decide who gets the loot.
E.g. In the screenshot for looting Crystalline Cuffs, an ilvl 18 blue item the addon adds the following to the tooltip
Zolapr [18] Crystalline Cuffs (blue)
Zollock [5] Armbands of Praise (white)
Zoloma [17] Mystic's Bracelets (green)
Zolos [16] Feral Bindings of the Owl (green)
Using that info I decided to give the item to Zollock because that char had the most to gain.
The text is printed in the colour of the item quality and the format is: player_name [ilvl] name_of_item

Known problems: When this addon is installed you can't manually inspect properly. I don't need to inspect, so it isn't a problem for me.
Disclaimer: It was written in one evening and has not been tested.
The addon is attached.
Questions and Answers
Q: Are you planning on doing more work to the Addon?
A: No, I'm not planning on it, but I probably will make updates.
Q: Does it work with a group, or do you have to set up a 'team' like with Jamba?
A: It uses "Party1" to "Party5" for inspecting so it should work in any Party. Other party members do not need the addon installed.

Looks pretty good :) anychance you could get it to post + or - stats? Then it would be awsome!
Will give it a bash this evening, are you planning to do more work to the Addon?
Btw is that altaholick posting the items drop location?

I would be interested in something similar to this, though i think what you've made so far is the "light" version of what i'd want hehe.
I love when you mouseover an item how it brings up the stat differentials and such, but i'd like to have a whole window at the top center of the screen that shows the tooltip for each party member with their name at the top, when mousing over gear to check. :) i like seeing all the details. Any chance you can make it do that? lol

Interesting idea, for certain. Does it work with a group, or do you have to set up a 'team' like with Jamba? I think I'll give it a go for my PvE team, since I manually have to switch to each window when I dole out loot.

I think + or - to stats would be my next upgrade to this addon.

Thanks, I hope it works for you. I'm not sure how much work I'll put into this addon as I like to keep things as simple as possible for my purposes. I created it out of a moment of frustration without any planning and figured I'll share it.

I think so.

Yeah the addon is very light . During my work commute I was thinking of a similar window, so I must say I like your idea ;). I think setting it up wouldn't be too hard, but there might be some technical challenges I'm not aware of. It might also get quite messy for items such as rings that fit two slots.
If you could team it up with this... :)

Looks like a nice addon, but would require frequent updates depending on how the theorycrafting changes. I think that's outside of my scope for this addon. I might put in some simple stat comparisons as angeldeelite suggested.

It works in any group. It just uses ids "Party1" to "Party5" when doing inspecting so it should work in any Party and only needs to be installed on the box/window/game you want the tooltips on. It was the frustration of manually switching of windows that inspired this addon.
This thing is bitchin'! Thanks a ton!
@Zolo: You, sir, are a god! This makes the perfect accompaniment to OneChoice (http://www.wowace.com/addons/onechoice/) and AutoEquipQuestItem (http://www.wowace.com/addons/autoequipquestitem/).
Many Thanks,

Nice!!! more Boxers making addons (http://wow.curse.com/members/Zensunim.aspx) check out GTFO (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/gtfo.aspx) and SmartError (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/smarterror.aspx)
Wowheadpoints (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/wowheadpoints.aspx) my Favorate, Gives every piece a values based on your classes 3 main specs
RatingsBuster (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/rating-buster.aspx) - This one does the math and tells you what each stat value does to your character
Pawn (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/pawn.aspx) - this is a beefed up version of the first addon. Its kinda has a high learning curve.
I run all of these at the same time.

Definitely a better system than having each of the Spacegirls roll.
The one with the highest roll goes to loot it.
And the others suddenly thing rolling was not the method to use, or that the first roll was a practice.

I'll have to check this out - I've been keeping a little notepad with a grid of upgrade slots and who needs what slot... this is much more elegant :)

I agree, definitely easier than keeping my spreadsheet with the ilevel per slot updated!
Hi all, I hope the addon is behaving itself for you.
I've been mucking around with the idea of a frame to show the +/- stats. At first glance it seems to work, but it is quite misleading. If you look at the screenshot you can see Zollock has Enumerated Wraps, but what you can't see is that is has a random enchantment (i.e "of the x") and the stat comparison ignores those stats. Currently there is no way* to get detailed item information from chars unless you target them during an inspect.
I think the biggest benefit of this addon it the iLvl and quality feature in the tooltip, so I'm going to just clean that code up a bit and leave out the stat comparisons.
Cheers,
Zolo
* I've spent multiple hours over numerous days searching the internet, reading addon code and experimenting with different approaches without finding a solution. Perhaps there might be a way of handling events to achieve this detail. If you can find a way to get a complete item link with enchantments from a non-targetted inspect then please let me know and I'll consider releasing a version with an optional window like below.

Yes, the primary stats are good. I don't use the other posted addons. WoW basic is good enough for me. As it is, there is not enough info at higher levels when you are already wearing blues and purples. I don't think the optional window is needed. Just toon name, name of current item, new item and primary/secondary stats change under it. THIS WOULD BE SO USEFUL. I will not have to keep switching windows to compare drops.

This has been very useful. Thanks for the good work. Any updates?
This addon appears to not work in MoP. I've been trying to work out what broke as it is fairly simple and I'd like to fix it.
I'd like confirmation either that it is broken for other people or that someone has fixed it. Many thanks,

It is broken for me as well.
Apparently the non-functionality is related to some other issues with inspecting. I expect the addon requires a considerable re-write.

Unfortunately, it appears that you can only get immediate item info for either yourself, or someone you have targetted. I'm trying to see if there is an easy way to have a dialog where you can drag/drop an icon and see if I can derive the information that way. I'm not hopeful, however. And creating a dialog requires a bit more work to figure out, so it will probably take a bit.

I also tried looking at this. I couldnt get it to work with anything other then using the 'player' setting. even target wasnt working.
I did read that waiting for the inspect to happen (calling a function, cant remember off the top of my head) before spitting out the results would get it to work but I couldnt figure it out.
I did think about adding a addon channel and just sending the player gear to that channel for the rest of that team to see, but to much work of my lack of knowledge and gave up.

Eureka! I was able to get this working by using addon communications. Basically, I keep a catalogue of the gear for all party members in memory so that when a tooltip is shown, the data is available instantly. The downside, is that I have to keep the data in sync, and the only way I could think of was to hook into the events for party member changing, and zone loading, as well as a slash command. I suspect there will be a good bit of tweaking to get that part right.
The good news is that you don't need to be within inspect range for it work, and the regular equip compare functionality appears to be uneffected by this addon.
At this point, it's an alpha version, and once I run it through some paces, I'll try and distribute it. Will I be able to post the files here?

Things are moving along very well. I've added stat comparisons, which got quite large for a full team, so I made it so the new tooltip data only shows up when you hold down the alt key. I haven't tried it with all my other addons disabled yet, so there may yet be some issues, but I think I'm very close to an initial beta release.
Here are a couple screen shots of what I've got so far:

Hello,
I have released a beta version of what I'm calling "Team Equip Compare" on WowAce. I created a new forum post where you can learn more and try it out @ http://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/48424-Team-Equip-Compare.
Cheers!
Thanks for releasing that. I will try it out over the weekend and report back.

Can we use wisp/party/raid communication instead of canal when using a cross realm party ?
Tattanka
11-22-2012, 10:24 PM
I'm afraid that doesn't mean anything to me. If you can provide more information, I might be able to answer your question. Regarding a cross realm party, keep in mind that all players need the addon in order for it to function. Also, the main purpose for the addon is to support multiboxers, so cross-realm support wasn't my intent.

Cross realm party is a feature who allow you to create party with characters from others servers.
My current team is dispatched beetween servers and i use the cross realm party feature to multibox them.
One of the drawback is that you loss the ability to use a channel to communicate beetween toons since they all have they own home server.
For exemple, addon like Jamba allow to use multiple means of communications, so i just have to deal with some minor naming issue and that's working perfectly now.

I've never done cross realm grouping before, aside from dungeon finder, so I don't have any knowledge of how it works. Do players have to be in the same battlegroup? How does one form a cross realm party? If you can let me know more about the process, I can try and setup a test team to look into how this would work. To set expectations, if it isn't reasonably simple, I will probably pass on adding this as a feature of the addon.

No need to be on the same battlegroup, you can invite with /invite NameOfCharacter-NameOfServerWithoutSpace.
You only need the character to be on the same battlenet account, or be a battletag/realid friend.
One thing to know is that once in a group, you can use macro like /target NameOfCharacter, but for some actions like wisp you need to use the full name /wisp NameOfCharacter-NameOfServerWithoutSpace.
You can check if character is on the same realm using
name, realm = UnitName("unit")
If they are not in the same realm, realm ~= nil.
For jamba i did the trick using that : http://pastebin.com/Qx2jGhCP
But i don't know how to use lua and it was my first time messing with wow addon so ..
