Been boxing WoW for sometime, and I am looking into other MMO's that have been established for some time. I am not looking for a howto, or "halp me plz!"
But there isn't a whole lot of information about boxing Eve other than farming a ton and having a lot of Isk.
Can anyone give me a rundown of their typical day of playing? Max level or leveling up really.
WoW: "I run some BG's, do a few daily's, and run a couple TB's and world PvP."
I haven't been able to delve into the world of boxing in Eve.
Can any locals let me know how you go? Maybe how long you have been playing, and why you play Eve, and a bit about your history? I figure everyone loves bragging or sharing their story. I am all ears. =D
My typical day in EVE varied based on what was going on ingame/corp/alliance.
Starting point from when i was a n00bie, it really consisted of exploring, learning the game, doing missions, mining, which i was doing in subpar fashion in all aspects being so new to the game.
Current time, its usually i log in, i see if we are being attacked/invaded/cloaky campers/general security situation of my immediate area, in the 0.0 (null-sec) space of the game. Then decided generally from the following, Mine to make more ships and mods to sell, Run anomalies for more money, run back to Empire (0.4 - 1.0 security space) with my jump freighter to pick up supplies/POS fuel, and/or part take in some ganking pvp or blob warfare.
The game really boils down to isk and pvp really in the end. Even being a manufacturer like myself, you need isk and pvp/mission runners loosing things in order to sell more products.
The game is very political in the player ran space, i miss empire from time to time.
I have been in eve since 2003, playing off and on up to last year, then i played solid through 2010 due to leaving wow.
Unlike most normal MMOs. certain gear/mods you use from the beginning can take you a long way, even into pvp and still be ok.

Eve is a real "get out of it what you put into it" type of game. Its hard to even compare it to WoW in some ways. A lot of the content really really depends on the players (i.e. the market, pvp, 0.0 sovereignity shenanigans or whatever).
For me, Ive just been running missions. Some days ill mine. You can actually be a full time industrialist here, though the market is tough.
Also, get the concept of "end game" or "max level" out of your head.

I just started friday. I played wow for years and can tell you that the only thing that's comparable is that they're both MMORPG. And they both have an economy, PVP and missions. That's about it.
It's a far more complicated game and not very carebear friendly. A big aspect in PVP is camping warpgates and ganking anything that comes through. Which means you can lose a lot of money by going to lower security levels. But obviously, that's also where most money is made(correct me if i'm wrong)
If you like putting effort in the game and spend half your gametime reading about what is what etc, then go for it :) It seems that there is much less need to play with other players in EVE aswell.

I've been playing for about a month now and after 3 weeks of training skills/missioning i've found that I actually like mining. Currently using 4 retrievers and a Bestower, warp into an asteroid belt, mine everything, then warp out :).
My current yields aren't very good and it can take a while to mine everything out, but I find it strangely enjoyable.
Apart from some dick coming along and robbing my can today, but that's part and parcel of the game for now. Will soon have the skill to drop 'Giant Secure Containers' to stop that happening.
Got another 3 accounts training up miners too, but may switch them to mining fleet defence.....
It's NOTHING like wow, but it's enjoyable in it's own way

So I'm still in my first month on 3 of my accounts, but I'll give you a quickie rundown of my progress thus far.
First day or two I ran some tutorial missions to get a bit of basic gear and a ship or three.
About middle of the first week, I found my best available Caldari Navy corporate agent and started running missions. (I'm working towards a Raven Navy Issue eventually, so I might as well start earning loyalty points now while I'm working my way into mining vessels for the other guys.)
I spent about 5 days (few hours in the evenings) running level 1s to build faction to open up level 2 guys and get a better agent location. During this time, I was training salvage, caldari industrial, mining and industry to make things faster for my sporadic mining ops.
Once I got the basics above trained, I realized that mining with one lazer = SLOW. So I started everyone training up for Caldari Cruiser in order to pilot Ospreys. That took about a day or two. My mining ops team basically consists of 4 ospreys and a Badger Mk2, with the badger kitted out for cargo space and the Ospreys for Mining Laser Upgrades (x2), a Beta Hull Mod cargo expander, one assault missile launcher, 3 Cu Vapor mining lasers and 4 mining drones each. I was only trained to fly a Badger Mk1 for the first few days of flying Ospreys and he would quickly lag behind the 4 Ospreys when mining. With a Badger Mk2, he has time to sit for a few minutes before they fill up the cargohold.
After seeing some of the comments on mineral amounts and such from others, I realized how pitifully tiny my Osprey ops were pulling in. So, I switched 4 of my guys over to training for Retrievers while my main is training for the CNR skills.
I'm maybe 3 weeks in now, and I've settled into a daily routine for the next 10 days or so while I wait for the retrievers. The routine is basically:
Get a level 2 mission on my main.
Fly my main (Drake heavy missile boat), alt1 (caracal light missile support cruiser) and alt2 (destroyer salvager with tractor beams and salvagers) to the mission site.
Kill everything with main and alt 1
Bring in destroyer when aggro is stable and have him start pulling in the wrecks and looting/salvaging
Eventually, I'll do this until a mission pops that has a bunch of rocks in a deadspace pocket, then I'll rotate everyone back to base for retrievers/transports and mine out the pocket for spare change. Will be a nice break from the mission grind. Once all that is done, I will probably start getting into some small-scale PVP.
That's about it for now. I'm still a total noob at the game, but I'm staying entertained and making some decent money for a lowbie. I'm sure later on there will be more interesting things such as wormhole exploration, etc.

There's a lot of choice in EVE which is what makes it difficult to decide what to do. I've settled for industrial activity because I can make semi-afk while I work from home. It's quite satisfying seeing the ore pile up in your hangars and working out that you can sell it to get some free subscription time.
I started playing EVE a few years ago and played it on and off, alternating with WoW and other games. It's only recently where things have come together that I've played EVE for more than a few months at a time.
Best way to start is to try for yourself - ask one of us to send youa buddy invite and get a 21 day trial - then if you subscribe we get 30 days free.
You then use that trick to set yourself up with however many accounts you want - I topped out at around sixteen before I decided I was being silly. Chaining buddy invites can save you a lot of expense in the first few months.
EVE can be a very expensive game as you either have to make ISK in order to progress or spend real money to buy PLEX and sell them for ISK. But it's pretty satisfying to go from paying for gametime to playing for gametime.
Oh and don't browse the EVE forums, EVE has the most malignant, troll infested forums ever, really it's impossible to believe how badly behaved they are.

lol...very true. The entire game is like one big Saturday night Barrens chat. The exception is when searching for guides. You can usually find a guide for some aspect of the game without too much pain. This implies a targeted search, and even those will sometimes force you to wade through a few pages of "NOOB!QQ!" before you find the good link(s). I was a bit hesitant to ask here without looking but after having done some research, I think I'd rather ask here first as I'm sure one of us has probably found the good links already or can help you tailor your search to find things with less pain. ;)

Hey there's a lot of players out there who must spend a ****load of real money on playing EVE. After all where do PLEX come from in the first place? That's right, someone has to spend real money to get them into game.

Yeah I knew about it already, just making fun of the people who get upset with people who spend money on a game to get more money in game. If that makes sense...
Here's what I mean, and WoW and Eve are completely different:
Eve player 1 - Just started a new character, bought a plex and sold it. Now I got some nice starting cash!!
Eve player 2 - Nice bro!
WoW player - Just bought some gold online, now I can finally get that damn recipe from the auction.
WoW retard - OMG LOL LOSER!!!

Sorry about the lack of replies from me, haha... Work has been a bit cumbersome.
This weekend I'll give the trials a go, and see how like them. I do understand that this game has a steeper learning curve, even more so with boxing.
But as far as I am concerned, WoW had no curve. Not until end game play, which was mostly.... "Don't step in shit here or there."
I'll see if I can make a post back about it later.

Note that you won't be able to login more than one trial.

My Eve experience.
Downloaded the trial which seem to take quite a while. Finally got everything setup and started playing... Well... In about 20 minutes I realized this wasn't the game for me. Uninstalled.
Not really anything worth bragging about though, lol.

That's a bummer about only being able to play one client.
Anyway, I am starting the download tonight. And getting things patched up for my Friday night. :)

Yep that was my first EVE experience back in 2004. Tried it again 3 years later when they'd actually created some tutorial content as opposed to just throwing you straight in to deep space.

The tutorials are good for getting a nice collection of basic ships, and doing the epic arc will get you a cruiser.
This is definately a game where you have to do a lot of reading though. I think I spent about 3 days reading tutorials before I even made my first character. Thankfully they put a web browser right inside the game interface (in case you don't have a spare monitor for a proper one), so you can put all the handy sites into the bookmarks list there.
Something else to know is that unlike WoW, you have a very good chance of getting help in the chat channels. There are dedicated newbie help channels manned by volunteers, and the NPC corp you start out in will have a lot of helpful players too.

You also get some decent rep for doing the SOE epic arc - it can be repeated every six months too if you want to raise rep again later

Most important thing in EVE if you intend to stay: Join a player driven corp - be it mining/industrial/pvp/0.0/carebearing/whatever try to find a bunch of people you like to do stuff with and join them.
As a very beginner friendly empire corporation I can recommend EVE University (http://www.eveuniversity.org/) thus they have a policy to accept only one character per player (not per account) as a member.
