View Full Version : [WoW] cant turn shadow off?
Hello all,
I'm not sure if my mind is playing tricks on me, but I could've sworn that I used to be able to turn shadow setting completely off like a few weeks ago. But I just reinstalled wow on a new computer, and now the best I can do is turn the shadow setting to "low".
Is blizzard forcing us to turn shadows on to some degree? I thought shadow was one of the most detrimental non-essential graphical options that we should turn off completely? Or is this a hardware thing? I was using a DX10 video card on the old computer, and a DX11 card on the new computer. Is that a factor? Is there a way to turn shadow off completely? Does it even matter anymore?
Thanks in advance to any who can shed some light. Have a happy valentine's day tomorrow. :)

I was wondering the same thing. I've been having problems with my computer when playin WoW lately, and was thinking after seeing this in the settings that it was the culprit.

You cannot with the slider in the game, that gets you between level 1 and 5.
But with: /console shadowMode 0... you can set it to zero.

Is there a way to set this in the config file or only in the console? When playing on my laptop I REALLY would like EVERYTHING turned off and so a config with all video set to the lowest possible would be very cool.

What about the new water effects, is there a way to disable those? Lately the reflections from the water effects in zones like Twilight and Uldum just irritate me to where I avoid the areas in game.

Not sure, on the console stuff.. but yes for the water stuff.
I'm using... on every swap of regions, run this for the new master:
/console farclip 1250
/console groundEffectDensity 36
/console groundEffectDistance 260
/console environmentDetail 40
/console particleDensity 75
/console shadowMode 0
/console waterDetail 0
/console reflectionMode 0
/console sunShafts 0
/console basemip 1
/console terrainMipLevel 1
/console projectedTextures 0
/console weatherDensity 0
/console componentTextureLevel 1
/console textureFilteringMode 1
/console Sound_EnableAllSound 1
And run this for all of the other characters (the slaves):
/console farclip 300
/console groundEffectDensity 0
/console groundEffectDistance 0
/console environmentDetail 0
/console particleDensity 10
/console shadowMode 0
/console waterDetail 0
/console reflectionMode 0
/console sunShafts 0
/console basemip 1
/console terrainMipLevel 1
/console projectedTextures 0
/console weatherDensity 0
/console componentTextureLevel 0
/console textureFilteringMode 0
/console Sound_EnableAllSound 0

Thanks alot for these Ualaa. Hopefully it'll help out alot when I make the changes.
edit: K, do I make some macros ingame with these commands in them, or how do I go about using these? I tried making two macros for each, since they extend the 255 limit and I have yet to switch to a macro addon. Or is this intended for ISBoxer in one of the settings?
