There have been some great posts on here of things to do that are not related to downing heroics. I tried some of them this week, and I thought I would share what happened. Mixing things up some has definitely kept me playing a little bit longer.
Whether you have heroics on farm or are just starting to box, there are some very fun things to do to spice up the game when you get tired of dungeons.
This week I thought I would try to do Malygos for the Azure Drake. I didn’t have the key on my Pally tank, so I thought, “ok, go do Naxx real quick to get it.” So, I ran Naxx to kill Sapphiron for the quest, and believe it or not, Naxx was pretty fun. You’ll make anywhere from 1.5k to 2.5k depending on drops. You can do this in an hour or so with a full 10-man group.
So, after I got the key I went and did Malygos. I was worried about the drake phase, but it was very easy. All you have to do here is 1,1,1,1,4 and repeat. Keep everyone together and strafe to the right once in a while to avoid the damage. No need for the dot (although it does speed it up some). Malygos went down, but no mount.
Earlier in the week after seeing the video on here of killing Kael’Thas for the phoenix mount I decided to try it. Thanks for posting it by the way. Anyway, he wasn’t too bad and it took all of 15 minutes to do it.
Then yesterday I thought I would try some of the other raids. I knocked out Black Temple and the Battle for Mount Hyjal. Surprisingly Illidan was cake.
Another thing to do once a week is 10-man Sartharion and 10-man Onyxia. Sartharion is a guaranteed black drake mount if you leave all three drakes up. Again, it takes all of 15 minutes to get there, kill the trash and just mow him down.
None of these were very hard. Anyone can do them, especially if you have a team in 346/359 gear.
So to summarize, here is a short list.
THINGS TO DO (I had 10 characters with me on these runs, but I think most are doable with a 5 man team)
10-man Onyxia for a 22 slot bag and a chance at the Onyxia mount.
10-man Sartharion for a 22 slot bag and a guaranteed black drake.
10-man Malygos for a chance of an Azure drake.
25-man BT to kill Illidan, chance at a legendary, achievements/guild points/2k+ gold.
25-man Battle for Mount Hyjal for fun, 1k+ in gold, achievements and guild points.
25-man Tempest Keep for a chance at the best looking mount in the game, 1k+ gold if you kill all the bosses, T5 hunter loot for the per bonus, achievements and guild points.
40-man Molten Core for achievment and build a legendary if you want.
40-man BWL. I had a friend control RG while I killed all the adds, then did the rest. You might be able to do this alone. Just put your dps all over the room and hit tab adn your dps key while running RG around.
20-man AQ Achieves.
40-man AQ Achieves.
25-man Sunwell for a chance at the legendary bow, achievements. About 2k in gold. Last boss gives out 500 versus the normal 250.
25-man Serpentshrine cavern. T5 loot for your hunter pet bonus, achievements, about 2k in gold. Need at least one more person for the last boss due to mechanics.
Will add more as I get them done.
Anyway, all of these were a nice change of pace. Several of them can be done weekly, and overall it added some new variety to the game. I am going to try and get the rest of the old raids done over the next couple of weeks.
