I currently have 5x JCs at 525. I've been doing the daily each day and only spent a small amount of tokens. Each toon has about 20 tokens left. I see no point in buying recipes right now as the market is saturated with sellers already.

With that in mind, I thought what if I saved all my tokens in anticipation for Cata Epic gems? Here are my thoughts

Purpose:
Detailed analysis of how many tokens it would take to buy all useful cuts across 5x toons to control the Epic cut market.

Assumptions:
Based on past expansion, Blizzard will add epic gems in a future patch and the epic cut recipes will be available via the JC vendor. The cost will likely be 4 tokens per recipes. Meta gems are not included.

Current Recipes:

Total Recipes 51
Total Token 153

Total Must Have Recipes 31
Must Have Tokens 75

In the table above, I've listed all the current rare gem cuts with the stats and the token cost. I have also marked recipes with an "x" indicating it is a must have recipes. Feel free to suggest which recipes should / should not be must have.

The total tokens to buy all 51 recipes would be 153. This would take 1 JC 153 days to earn enough tokens.

With 5 toons, it would take 30 days.

Of course, some cuts are simply not profitable or useless. There are 31 must have recipes with a total cost of 75 tokens

With 5 toons, it would take 15 days to buy them all.

Now, assuming epic gem recipes cost an additional token it would take 75 + 21 = 96 tokens total to buy the must have. This adds an additional 4 days.

Clearly, it is entirely feasible for a 5x team of JCs to buy all the epic gem recipes on day 0. Being the first to market has several advantages as you can set the price you want. The only limitation is likely the supply of epic gems.

What do you think? Is this a worthwhile venture? Or would I be better off selling Chimera's Eyes.

Start saving pyrite ore, im sure it will be able to be prospected for epic gems.

That was my thought too.

I could starting saving all my pyrite ore and buy stacks that are cheap and underprice on the AH.

In the worse case scenario, Blizzard does a completely new system for epic gems. So my JC tokens hoard is useless and my pyrite stash is worthless.

Pyrite will still be used for Truegold, so it won't exactly rot away.
