Hey guys,
I've made a topic about multiboxing in Rift. There's a really big discussion on it. What i've seen so far is that Multiboxing will be allowed in Rift IF you don't use software to send your keystrokes. This really sucks imo, i really love ISBoxer.
I wonder how they can detect this tough.

What i've seen so far is that Multiboxing will be allowed in Rift IF you don't use software to send your keystrokes. I wouldn't expect that to stick if that's the plan. The last time someone got banned on a "because you're multiboxing with software instead of hardware" policy, the policy was changed and the ban was reversed -- http://sites.google.com/site/khromtor/ The only thing that kind of rule accomplishes is to make people spend a bunch of money on hardware that they could have spent on something else, in order to do the same thing they would have done with software. And people are going to use software anyway, whether they prohibit it or not. Pushing people to hardware is also going to bite these publishers in the butt, because when people start cheating (botting, hacking, etc) via hardware instead of software, the publishers are going to lose a huge amount of edge in battling cheats -- they will no longer have access to scan for them. Such a rule would serve to fund efforts on hardware. Not that I dislike hardware, we should get some Arduino-based multiboxing hardware projects going.

After I realized that thread was 34 pages and rising, I skimmed the last 8 pages or so and I didn't see an official 'blue' post
saying that software wasn't allowed; I only saw a handful of people's opinions that 3rd party software shouldn't be allowed.
It's a lot of the same group of haters and uneducated people versus those who understand what multiboxing is and defend it.
I could have easily missed the 'blue' post since I'm starving and the thought of having a 6" BMT from Subway in my fridge is
totally distracting me.

Most the comments are from the same few people, they just like to argue. The facts are.. a lot of players will never accept multi-boxing as anything less than cheating. We can argue back and forth on weather or not it is, but to some it IS and always will be for them.
The question then becomes, how many people actually QUIT playing an MMO because of their hatred for, or experiences with multi-boxers? i bet little to none. They rant about it for a number of reasons, but does it really hurt anyone? Enough to ban it? I doubt it!

They really use Blue names over there on the forums and people refer to them as Blue Posts? That's a bit much even for them don't you guys think? lol. Rift should really pick another color.

Hmmm...I kinda want to play this game, and I kinda want to multibox this game.
Not going to spend 250 bucks to multibox it til I get better confirmation that I can software box it =/

The evidence is in: not enough to matter. Just look at WoW. WoW has many features that make multiboxing setups trivial for someone with a little bit of macro knowledge and more than 2 brain cells they can rub together.

I emailed them with my standard inquiry (http://www.dual-boxing.com/showpost.php?p=230525&postcount=28) and got f***all out of them as a response. Quiet literally "go post a thread". When I said that wasn't an answer and there were already several threads about multiboxing that have gone without a response, they said "we have not announced any information regarding multi-boxing. Any new information will be put on our website and in our forums."
So, take that for whatever.

As excited as I am about Rift, their answer to Khatovar is pretty telling. It seems that what they want is for multiboxers to buy accounts and spend money and THEN they'll figure out whether or not it's something they want to allow or not.

From what I could tell from their podcast they simply don't like to say anything they may need to change their mind on later. They would rather wait until they can give a definitive answer that can be relied on to stay that way.

They don't have to ban anyone... just make all of the quests collection quests and make phased zones so you can see anyone not on the exact same quest and make them use specialty vehicle/mounts and have to hunt for quest items in your bags. I general make it as un-group friendly as you possibly can... wait.. that's Blizzards policy.

Honestly, I think the prevalence of the programmable logitech keyboards is one of the main reasons their hand is forced to allow for all forms of multiboxing both software and hardware. To disallow software multiboxing would mean they'd have to ban another 10-20% (??) of their population who commonly use and will not stop using logitech multi keystrokes which are also software.

Are you insinuating that this is a bad strategy on their part?

They have not decided whether the answer is yes, multiboxing is fine, or no multiboxing is not good.
Which essentially tells boxers to skip the game initially, if you require boxing to play a game. There is no point in purchasing five copies, unless they are fully refundable... which probably won't be the case.
I would think the best strategy would be to allow boxing.
But set the game up, so there is enough going on that those who want to box get a large advantage over a single player, which makes it worthwhile to box.
But that five different players will usually be stronger, so boxers don't automatically dominate all facets of the game.

Yes, unequivocally. If there is no definitive answer when it launches, will YOU go spend $250+ on 5 accounts and subscriptions knowing full well that they might ban it? I would venture that most boxers wouldn't take this bet. If, however, they say it's allowed... You'll probably get a decent amount of boxers who'll give it a go.

This beta6 they made mobs tougher. They hit harder and have more HPs. I will not play the game solo. If they ban multiboxing, then I will not be playing it. And it will piss me off ( i paid for two CEs lol ), its almost like they don't want to say anything in hopes they will get more sales, then ban it later lol.. that will suck.
And Catamer, all MMOs have collection quests now.. its a price we pay for having the power of 5! the good news is, there was only one quest from lvl1-18 that i completed that was a kill x mobs and collect x items off the dead mob type, that did not drop the item for everyone in the group. all the many other kill+collect quest drop the item for everyone in the group. There are some "click the item on the ground types, a few of those give credit to everyone when one person clicks it ,and some each member of the group has to loot it separately. But overall, the collections quest in Rift are way more multibox friendly then any other MMO i have boxed, EQ2 being a close second.

I guess we'll disagree. I don't expect a company with a new game coming out to be able to guess at all the "stacking" issues that boxers routinely take advantage of. So while they might be on board with it in concept, the business realities might force them to ban it if it would take too much engineering effort to balance for it.
You will note, of course, that Blizzard did not come out with a blue post in support of boxing until what, 2007? Almost 3 years after release?

K that would explain it. I had thought they nerfed pets. I'd agree, it's alot tougher to solo B6 vs the B5.

all I can say is just wow at this point 40 pages with a lot of QQ. Also I didn't know you had been banned form here sam LMAO. that post plus the responses from there on out gave me a bit of a chuckle.
seems to be a lot of people against it, but in the end it only matters as to what the game makers decide, and even then there will always be the ones who disapprove. I do however hope that they allow at least hardware as it seems a good many people here are looking forward to playing it and hopefully boxing it as well.
