Product recall on Intel Sandy Bridge chipset motherboards

Basically it affects all P67 and H67 based motherboards (Intel's Cougar Point chipset).

Yeah that really sucks. You don't see this happen very often but... it can happen. I am glad at this point that I have waited so
far and am trying to do my best at holding out until LGA2011. :)

Yes it impacts all chipsets for those given boards, however the failure rate is most likely years and only affects the 3Gbps ports, not the 6Gbps ports. So if you are utilizing ports 0 & 1 you will never see this issue. At least this gives time before you have to get a replacement (which you should when available)

Intel produces products with good quality. But, the recent recall might disappoint their costumers. An Intel recall of the heralded Sandy Bridge chip set (http://www.newsytype.com/3827-intel-sandy-bridge-recall) was announced by the business on Monday. A glitch within the system overlooked in tests was uncovered that is expected to eventually degrade Sandy Bridge efficiency. The Intel recall is predicted to be a $1 billion problem that will give Advanced Micro Devices a leg up with an item that competes with Sandy Bridge.

Note that some of the manufacturers (I think Asus and Gigabyte at this time) are following through with recalls for replace or refund for their boards based on these chipsets as well.
