Well, I'm thinking of dual boxing WOW. Mainly because my kids have characters on my account and I would like to play right along side of them, instead of us all taking turns playing.

and if we do this, then that will also allow me to dual box after they go to bed. I do have a few questions, I hope can be answered.

1-I was thinking about running the game twice on my laptop in windowed mode. Do I need to have 2 separate game installs?

2-Since I'll be starting a new character on the new account, what is the best way to power level the new character? Would running the lowbie thru instances with a lvl 56 be the fastest way?
2a- if this is the fastest way, at what level do you suggest starting to run the instances?

3-any tips or suggestions would be helpful.

You can use the install you are using right now, but for more comfort, copy your entire WoW folder and make short cuts to each wow.exe.
By doing this you will never have any problems logging into your accounts + it's easy to set a custom UI for solo usage while having another setup for duel boxing. Atleast, this is what I do since I also have a main to play.

Best way to level fast is to save up rested XP, and then kill mobs 6 or 7 levels higher while being healed by another char, but not in the party. I'm doing this with a 28 shaman and a 27 mage atm, the mage gets 460xp per lvl 33 mob killed ... Wich is nice and fast

I don't think running instances is faster then doing quests. The method I just described is though. You get normal XP untill some one else helps you attacking the mob, and healing doesn't count for this

1. Just what notes says: no need for 2 installations but they have a few minor advantages.

2. Fastest leveling is probably leveling a dps and a heal class together (e.g. mage & priest) and use the high level char just to kill some instance bosses for the loot. Another advantage is that you end up with two high level characters and you can decide which one you like to raid/farm/craft etc. with.

3.
a) Find out for yourself what kind of mobs get you the most exp. Some kill mobs that are a few levels higher than you while others (like me) like killing lower level mobs at better speed. perhaps it's best to get some addon that measures exp/hour and cash per hour and just try out which suits you better.
b) Don't be discouraged when the first levels are rough and you wipe a couple of times - it takes time to get used to playing two (or more) characters.
c) Remember: the ultimate goal is having fun! If you don't like playing a certain character or area or whatever just don't do it because someone theorycrafted that it's best.

Enjoy the dualboxing experience,
Bunny

if you have a healer out of group i noticed the other day that elites of the same lvl when solo'd give a nice xp bonus.

i was killing the ones outside of Wc while 2 lvls below .

i also suggest if you have a "main" on the server that can afford it to enchant some of your items. my mages currently have Minor runspeed to boots stam or +int everywhere i could put it . and a fast dagger with Firey on it since it procs alot and i had one lying around.

2) Fastest is to alternate between questing (preferably with a high-lvl healer standing behind you) and running yourself through instances. As for what lvl you should run instances: From when you can enter and then for about 5 lvls. After the 5 lvls the speed bonus compared to fade and the instance gets really, really boring.

...and a fast dagger with Firey on it since it procs alot and i had one lying around.
1) iirc Fiery procs on a "per minut" basis, meaning that the slower the weapon the larger %age of proccing on any given hit.
2) Why would you use a melee weapon on a mage?

i used http://www.thottbot.com/i3296 when i would run out of mana or just to melee the crap out of stuff. with firey about every 6-8 hit = a proc . it was a left over from when i would lvl my shaman .

shaman had a dagger till he could get a fist wep . Firey wep + flame tounge + red whelp gloves = everything dies ... FAST

Ah, for your shaman.. well that actually does make sense, thought you meant for your mage (on which I'd pick a wand).

A similar question:

I have well geared lvl 70 druid and recently aquired a friend's account with a level 60 priest that hasn't been played since TBC came out. What is the fastest way to level the priest?

Can I tap the mobs with the priest, and then down them with the druid out of party? Does this redux the exp gain? I've heard of 70's powerleveling 60's in hearthglens where the 60 mage aoe taps mobs, and 5-6 lvl 70's burn them down.

I know i can heal the preist out of party, but he seems more mana limited than heal limited and doesnt seem like it would speed things up much. Sure innervate helps, but its a 6 min timer.

I guess I could try downing higher lvl mobs and wanding the snot out of them when the priest goes OOM. Seems like killing lower level MOBs would take less time.

Simple. Respec the priest to shadow. My shadow priest leveled *fast*. Pull 2 or 3 mobs with DoTs while healing with the druid. You'll have 3 sets of DoTs running meaning you are killing (almost) 3x as fast. I did the same thing with my warlock (and 70 druid). And the lower the toon, the more you can pull (since the healer can keep up easier). I'd have as many as 8-10 mobs with DoTs running on my warlock at level 20. And my feral-specced druid's HoTs easily kept up with the damage.

Tapping a mob, then killing it with an out of party player will reduce the xp by the percentage you tapped it. So hitting it for 5% means only 5% of the xp. The only benefit I ever saw from tapping was to kill Elites for party quests. Even then, it's just as good to put the follow-bot into the group.
