View Full Version : To upgrade, or not to upgrade? That is the question..

So, I currently multibox 4 shamans for the soul purpous of PvP. But my PC is not doing the job good enough, its lags and gives crappy FPS during heavy dpsing or lots of AOE. Cant even run in SW or Dala without my alts going off follow.
I use 2 computers, where I have 2 instances on each.
Main comp:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8200 2,66GHz
6 GB ram
Windows 7 64-bit
GeForce 9600 GT
Second comp:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3,20GHz
1,5 GB ram
Windows 7 32-bit
GeForce 9600 GT
So, Im curious. What would be the smartest thing to do to make my setup go faster and smoother?

I can't believe your first PC would lag in Dalaran with only 2 copies running. I ran that exact config with 4 copies on 4GB RAM and as long as I gave it a few seconds to load after zoning to Dalaran, they wouldn't break follow.
I'd definitely upgrade the 2nd PC though.
[edit] Wait, are you running ISBoxer with full-size graphics settings on both? That would kill either one of those PCs, IMO.

Im running with Octopus on low settings, dunno why its lagging this much :/

Two copies on low settings and still lagging? Hmm...on the second PC, I could see that as the P4 is just sorely lacking. I presume you've tried adjusting the performance sliders in the NVidia control panel to favor speed over quality?

Jepp, Ive set performance over quality on both computers

Out of curiosity, do you run both copies from shared/linked DATA folders? Or do you run each copy from its own separate folder?

I run both copies on each computer from same DATA folder. Could this be the issue?

Do you mean that on PC 1, you have both copies using the data folder on PC 1 and on PC 2, you have both copies using the data folder on PC 2? Or do you mean PC 2 uses the data folder on PC 1?
The former should work fine, while the latter would definitely be a problem.
Edit - What FPS are you getting on each of the 4 instances? How about latency? (these are both shown in the default UI)

Unless you are incredibly poor (in which case stop multiboxing) and storage is an issue then we can safely assume it is the first one.
The second one doesn't pose much of an issue anyways except for added latency depending on your network configuration. Still, it's not optimal.

After 15+ years of doing computer support, I don't assume anything anymore. =)

Good point. In which case your speed would still be limited by your slowest factor. If it's the hard drive speed that would limit it, as would your network. The biggest thing it WOULD do is increase latency/load times a little bit.
