I have neglected professions on my level 70 pala + 4 x shaman group.
What professions will benefit me most at level 85? Assuming I did dungeons and heroics as freely as I can possibly handle and raids infrequently.
Is it worth making my own equipment, or is it outclassed by what I can obtain?
I only have enchanting ~ 360 currently.

enchanting, jewelcrafting
herbalism, alchemy
mining, alchemy
skinning, tailoring
engineering, tailoring
those are the tradeskills on my 5 man team.
I didn't pick up inscription because glyphs are 1 time use now and if you compare to jewelcrafting, the longer the expansion is out, the less demand there will be for glyphs, where as the longer the game is out for jewelcrafting, the higher the demand for gems.
The 2x alchy for potions / flasks / transmutes
the 2x tailors for the cloth enchants
And not sure why I added engineering, but I'm still debating between engineering and leatherworking...There are some cool things from enginering that I want to use, but from a usage standpoint, i think that leatherworking might be the better choice. Dunno, up to you. Just my 2cp

Long term, 5x Tailoring/Alchemy for transmutes.
That equates to gold, which can get you whatever.
Level your Enchanting, as that gets you disenchants which generally sell better than vendoring items no one can use, at least until towards the end of an expansion.

having gathering professions when leveling is pretty damn good. You can sell the raws for so much money while youre leveling. especially the lower level ones that no one ever farms anymore.
but once youre at max level, getting 5x tailor or alch *i prefer alch imo* is great for money. People will argue that dropping gathering when you get to max level, but with each expansion, the raws are stupidly inflated during the first couple weeks that its well worth to have the gathering. Which means, its worth it to relevel gathering whenever an expansion comes out.. Personally, I prefer to just leave the gathering and have 5x alch. Thats what i did in TBC, but in cata, i'm going to try 2x tailor and 2x alch. see if that provides me with more options and a wider market share.

Thanks guys,
What do alchemist and tailors make that is so appealing?
I just re-noticed this bit
The 2x alchy for potions / flasks / transmutes
the 2x tailors for the cloth enchants
I'll have to look them up

Multiple transmute masters are the way to go for straight gold. Buy volatile life for ~10g ea, sell volatile air for ~30g each.

Ok, based on the replies and my own ideas, I was thinking
Paladin - Mining / BS + Cooking / Fishing
S Resto - Ench / JC
S Ele - Alc / Herb
S Ele - Tailor / Alc
S Ele - Tailor / Inscription

I'm averaging 11g per Volatile Life.
And you need 15 of those per character.
Which is an average of 165g.
They transmute into 14-16 of the result.
You can force the result to be Volatile Air (the most valuable) if you do the transmute in Uldum.
On my server, Air sells for 24g.
Plus you get procs, which can be any element pretty much random on those.
With 29 alchemists (24 doing the Life to Air transmute), I'm averaging 8,500g a day in under an hour of mailing things back and forth and logging teams on.
The five who aren't doing Life to Air, are doing Truegold as I am starting to work on the mats for 5x Vial of Sands, or whatever the item is called for the Dragon shapechange.
