What do you think is the best farming class at 70? I'm thinking either warlock(dot multiple mobs, drain life, don't need a break), or mage(aoe 8-10 down at a time). Will have to raise gold somehow:)

What do you think?

For straight cash farming I always liked a combat rogue. Sure it isn't as spectecular as some AOEing mage but if the equipment is good you can basically chain kill a lot of mobs throwing a bandage here and there.
You also have the ability to vanish when something goes wrong and to sneak through crowded places to farm ore or herbs. Plus since combat requires only two or three buttons for farming you can watch TV or do whatever you like and don't have to concentrate on wow too much.
Before BC there were bosses that were and killable solo for the disenchanting although I doubt that there are any of those in the outlands.

Those who didn't answer a hunter, surely haven't faced fellow farmers on a contested spot before. Nothing beats instant shots at 41 range.

This is pretty much why it caused me to make a hunter for my farming team (Hunter + 4 locks). Skald can get pretty crazy if you don't have a hunter.

If you are being contested in a zone for the mobs, hunter is your thing, still long term farming with a hunter is a pain atm. Too much agro issues for your pet makes it completly screwed to do decent farming.

Dude - are you sure? You must not have the proper beast talent spec. It takes a while for me to peel off my pet heh - and that's only if I really try. When I'm farming - having a pet tank over max DPS is more favorable.

Yeah im really totally absolutly sure :). But i must say that my gear may be part an issue, but i can still only auto shot or it comes running to me. There seems to be a bug which makes the agro from the pets not adding correctly. (btw i raid with the hunter, so its gear is pretty decent, so my dmg to a mob is also easilly higher then the pet). I still would prefer a rogue > hunter for farming anyday due to downtime. I think even my lock doing affliction+dark pact build is perhaps even nicer then the rogue, difficult choice.

Some of my best farming was 4 mages 1 priest in strat. Really any 5 man instance with sellable loot was quite lucrative. I just don't have the desire to mindlessly farm over and over again so I never did it much.

Farming+multiboxing = Hunter + Mages.

Send in a BM's pig and you'll have some HEAVY threat to start out with (as in crit aimed shot + distracting shot + crit multishot + crit auto shot before the second growl is NOT enough to pull aggro) after which is actually builds faster than, say, a warrior's due to the unlimited focus. Also 3 points in SV will supply the 41 yard instants.

The mages are there for the DPS. Well, and something to drink.

A full affliction lock is the best farmer hands down.
0 down time, can kill many at once if needed, no need for food or water, no class can kill non stop like a lock can, yes, others can kill faster, but none can non stop kill like a lock.

they were built to solo farm.

multi boxing, many combinations can work well.

Assuming WoW, it actually depends where you're farming :)

I'm going through the pain of farming motes for another Frozen Shadow Weave set with my (solo) affliction-specced 70 Warlock and it's deeply painful.

"Why is it painful?" I hear you cry (!). Because it's highly competitive and I simply CANNOT compete with Hunters.

Even if I send the pet in and tag them with an instant DoT, by the time I've got an actual damage dealing spell off, they've been re-tagged by the hunter doing massive near-instant damage.

The only way I stand a chance is if I manage to pull with a shadowburn or deathcoil.

My wife has a demo-specced lock and has the exact same problem. Even her pet's charge doesn't do enough to keep it tagged. In fact, looking over her shoulder last night she was getting mobs re-tagged by a hunter AND a MS warrior. It was bad enough that I began to wonder if there's some exploit, but seeing the mob's health tumble answered that one.

So my answer: HUNTER. No competition.

Crazy range + massive damage instants on all targets (no worries about fire / frost / shadow resists) + charging pet = win. You don't even need to be fantastically well equipped.

However.... if you're farming in an area where the spawn is as fast as their death rate then an affliction lock is truely awesome.

You are correct, when a farm area is highly contested, a lock can be a pain, in them cases, i use my wand to get first agro, its just as fast as a bow or gun to get it .

You still need to be standing still and within range though, arcane shot is instant and has a 41yd range, pretty handy for farming and tagging :)

Hehe - I've said this over and over. Nothing beats a hunter in farming. I rarely find anything that is not contested worth farming anyway. Hunter + 4 locks FTW.
