View Full Version : CPU Affinity & Cata
Trick

I recall reading somewhere in early 2010 that WoW.exe was being changed for Cata to use all cores by default and no longer require setting CPU Affinity for more than 2 cores. Yet now that I'm 3-boxing again, it seems that I'm seeing usage on only 3 of my 4 cores. Also, my CPU Affinity settings are no longer in config.wtf.
Should I add settings for CPU Affinity back to my 3 copies of WoW?

I don't have an answer whether you should or should not add the line to your config.wtf since I've been using a custom
affinity setup for quite awhile now and I don't know what a default config.wtf looks like. However:

Thanks for the reply. I remembered how to do it, but didn't know if it still needed to be done.
Anyway, I went ahead and enabled it (specifically, I did "14" so the first core would remain available for the OS). Not only did my occasional slow-downs on the main toon stop (FPS would dip below 12 for several seconds with no good reason), but the CPU usage for each copy of WoW dropped 50% to 75%. Much better than I remembered; so much better in fact that I may even consider getting back up to 5-boxing.

This will help me out ... I notice that my system freezes for a second or two... Always when alot of thing start to happen. Scrolled down to windows 7 section and saw the core parking thing windows 7 does and the tweak is supposed to stop it from doing so.
Hope it works like a charm now :P
