Rumors have it that the next expansion will be Emerald Dream/Nightmare or Return of the Burning Legion. Just check wowwiki and theres tons of ideas for new expansions and races. So what are your thoughts/wishes/ideas for what the next expansion/class/hero class will be? Just imagine 5 boxing Pandaren or Demon Hunters!

There was a post on... Allakazam? From a few years back (prior to TBC release) where someone posted what he believed where documents showing Blizzard's planning for WoW. It was pretty accurate all the way through to Cataclysm if I remember correctly, including level ranges and zone names. I should try to find that link and see if they had anything after cata. I think that they showed the plans all the way through level 100 or something like that.
I'd be pretty happy with something similar to LK/Cataclysm- huge zones with an overall theme, although I really would like it if they dropped the single-player mentality. Because honestly, when that NPC hails me as the hero who saved Azeroth, and I'm standing right next to Stanley the Super Decorated Kingslayer, I know that the NPC is feeding Stan the same bullshit line that he's feeding me. Why not just make it so the game treats you like part of a larger group effort, instead of hailing you as the go-to guy whenever Shecky the God of Casinos needs his omnipotent ass pulled out of the fire? They keep telling me that I'm the guy who saved the world, even though I need to join four, nine, or twenty-four other people in order to kill the dragon who plans to send the universe straight to hell.
Errr... sorry for the rant. I really like Cata so far, but being treated like Neo every step of the way in an MMORPG is annoying.

they are catering to the self-important kids-in-the-basement who comprise 99% of the population in WoW and stroking their egos as "God"

Yeah, power creep in story gets kind of annoying. But this should have been obvious back in BC when we started killing Illidan. The only real question is why the players haven't grabbed political power, seeing as how we take down even gods.
But i guess that is just the nature of the narrative: we always need a bigger gun, not more bodies.

I don't mind that storytelling device per se. It works pretty well in single player RPGs, although it can get stretched pretty thin there as well (hi Mass Effect, I'm looking at you). In a large scale cooperative game, being told that I'm the only one who can kill Dragon X is not very convincing when I have to stand in line and wait for three other people to kill it first. And then when it's my turn, I'm killing Dragon X while standing on the corpse of... Dragon X. And also Dragon X.
Yeah, that just doesn't work.

i love when they call my name! it makes me feel important, like a god, and with all the crap going on down here in the basement it's nice to have something feed my ego!
/sarcasm off
Seriously though, i'd love to see more with the burning leigon, maybe we could invade their home world this time, or do some caverns of time that would take us back to when medive was around, i would like to see him do more then let the orcs into our world, like we could fight his demon side or something. He's definately a raid boss in the making in my opinion.

^This.
Tonuss, I really really like you.
As for the subject. A friend of mine is a Blizz emp. Hes stated that Blizzard is done with WoW to the extent of expansions of the game to get bigger. However, he did say, that Cataclyzm is the first of 4 expansions, which will essentially revamp each of the older expansions. Sort of like a snake eating his own tail. With the foundation already laid out, and the pattern already determined, its easy to update, slap a new name on it, tweak the game just enough so that people will want to relearn stuff, and bingo... they have a new expansion just about ready to counter any new competition that comes out.
Direct from his own emails to me, Blizz released expansions to counter the launch of Age of Conan, Aion, and this latest one was to counter StarWars ToR, but Bioware has pushed that launch out... Blizzard was already too far in, and had to release. But they arent done yet. Several planned instances and Raids arent open yet. I would put lots of money to wager that will roll out when bioware is ready to launch StarWars.....its just good business.
Ive played WoW since Vanilla Beta. I see the revamped Vanilla (Cata). I love it. It brought me back to the game. Well played Blizzard.
Im sure those individuals who started when TBC came out, will be back in full force, when that old expansion is revamped... and so on and so on.

Heres the rest of the list, it wouldnt fit in the character limit... The Firelands - 97 to 100- Legion SetK'aresh - 96 to 99Argus Meadowlands - 97 to 100Mac'Aree - 99 to 100Maw of Oblivion - 100+The Burning Citadel - 100+++.... All in all if this list is fake its pretty damn accurate for a fake...I know it pre-dates TBC and ive read it pre-dates the vanilla release as well...

For all their planning, I really don't think blizz has much to worry about competitionwise since no one else seems capable of putting out anything but steaming piles of crap. I'm still waiting to see if someone else can build a better mmo before bliz adds the next new game changing mechanic like cross server bgs or the dungeon finder that makes anything new look silly by comparison.

@apps Im very interested to see how much of this holds true. If Cata is the first of 4 revamp expansions then the future ones are TBC 2.0, Wrath 2.0 and then what? Vanilla 3.0? Meaning the list from years ago off by one. Its missing Wrath 2.0 (Plane Set=Vanilla 3.0(Emerald?) and Legion Set=TBC 2.0) They have already hinted at revamping outland and northrend due to them being outdated. I personaly would rather see wow expand to include the other side of azeroth and/or take us to a new planet.

There was a Blizzard quote a while ago, basically said they were working on WotLK slightly prior to the release of Burning Crusade.
So there's a good chance whatever the next one will be, they're already working on it possibly prior to the release of Cataclysm.
They said there wouldn't be a heroic class in Cataclysm, they don't want a heroic class in each expansion. Not sure if that means there might be in the next one.

I don't really care what they do lore-wise, as long as it's not like this expansion. My husband and his friend at work call it an Amusement Park expansion. You get in line {start this questline by killing X}, wait in the line {continue this questline by gathering X of Y from Z}, get on the ride {Kill "Boss"}, get in the next line and start over. Oh, and there's a whole bunch of safety announcements you have to sit through along the way {cutscenes}.
It's way too linear. There's no wandering around and exploring. You don't get a bunch of stuff to do all at once. Everyone is just funneled down one narrow cowpath on the way to cap, unlike, say BC where there was 12 different NPCs at one of several hubs who all want you to do different stuff.

I've done every quest in Hyjal, Vashj'ir and Deepholm now.
It is a little annoying, in how linear the game is.
Each area has a set progression.
And the next area does not open until you complete the current area.
If you are stuck on a given quest, or just plain do not like it and are not going to do it.
Pretty much the rest of the zone is done.
One bugged quest or quest which you cannot do/don't want to bother with, and the zone is done.
Some of the quests are very fun to do... but it sucks how you are railroaded down a single path.
The lore is ok; I read every quest the first time through a zone.
The cutscenes are ok; but wish there was a bit more warning for those, as I quest with mp3's going and warcraft sound off.

Yes, I believe that is exactly correct.
A new planet... now theres an interesting idea. I dunno how well that plays into the Lore of the story but, who knows.. perhaps this is how World of Starcraft starts? lol

I 100% agree, there was no feeling of exploration. If you miss even ONE quest in any zone you can not continue ( with only a few exceptions ) I liked being able to grab 6-12 quests, and do them in any order i see fit, or skip some if I wanted. You can not do that this expansion.

i find leveling 1-48 a right pain if you miss out the pickup quests the zones about done for its not as bad as most pickup quests are close to 100% drop no more kill 1000 mods for 1 quest itam
but i find am changeing zone a lot as i got to fed up or can not take the pickup quests nomore.

^THIS!! Although I love the game, every zone is in sets of 3-4 quests, and you can't move on to the next set until you complete those 3-4. Not like back in vanilla where you had 20 quests and as you completed one the rest of it' chain opened up regardless of your progression on the others.
On a plus note, this made camping/griefing very easy, as I would know EXACTLY where a horde was bound to be next if he manged to escape me as there is only one path through the quests in each zone.

Well, since cataclysm changed Azeroth a good guess could be next expansion will try to bring new life to Outlands. They could easily make some new lvl 85-90 floating zones appear which up until now were unknown.
If I'm correct Blizzard hinted that "for now Outlands will be untouched" when cataclysm was released. Would also be nice if next expansion also try to bring new life into the BC cities Exodar and Silvermoon.
