Hi,
I'm struggling to get decent DPS on my Shamans.
I have just hit 85 so my ilvl is only 320 at the moment, but I am only getting 4800 DPS on my 3 DPS Shamans Elementals.
Is this about as high as I should hope for?

You should be getting much more dps than that with 320. When I changed my macros for lvl 85 I was in the high 320's and did 10k on the non elite 85 test dummy. I was doing over 4800 when I was level 80. Check out my two step macro it may help you improve dps.

I am actually using the two step at the moment.
I'm not sure what it is that is going wrong.
I even lifted one of those macros completely.

post macro, post spec / glyphs and link to your toon, would be best to start with

Guess I would like some guidance too. But it is most likely gear, glyph, gems and possibly talent issue. I am using pinotnoir's cast sequence except I don't use searing totem anymore due to constant break of my CCs (caused a few undesired wipes on VP heroic). Here is my shaman:

Right now my Mage and Warlock can both reach nearly 9.5k dps, 10~11k with BL. But my shaman usualy stays around 7k~8k tops. Here are the mage and warlock armory both using pinotnoir's cast sequence. Possibly I can pull out more than what I am doing...

Your spec & glyphs are fine, you can switch some points around, but nothing will be a dps increase/loss. Unless instant ghost wolf on moving intensive fights, but as a boxer with a mixed team that is not that relevant.
Elemental dps atm is not a real rotation but priority based. Single target:
- open flame shock
- cast searing totem
- lava burst whenever it's available, provided fs is up on the target
- lightning bolt, repeart
- at 7+ stacks, earth shock
- when you need to move use unleash elements, refresh your fs or searing. UE will boost your next fire damage
Depending on your trinkets you want to cast fire elementals when your spell power is highest. Not using searing totem is a dps loss, it's a good 10% of our dps. Of course if it breaks cc then you don't want to use it. But that's mostly valid on trash, and dps doesn't really matter on trash i'd say. If you have the fs glyph for extended fs duration, you might want to open with a few lightning bolts, waiting till you get some procs and EM is up (eventually with a sp pot), as your fs will take it's initial sp / haste for it's entire duration (but thats more imprtant with 4 pieces of T10)
Whatever you do, do NOT cast chain lightning on single target, get it out of your rotation and only cast it on trash packs, preferably manual.
I use only 2 macro's (besides every spell which has an assist focus part) while boxing my shamans:
macro 1 =
/castsequence reset=combat/target lightning bolt, lightning bolt
/cast lava burst
macro 2 =
/cast elemental mastery
/use 10
/cast Lighning bolt
(use 10 is my engineering tinker (480 int for 12 sec)
Every other spell I cast manually. my 5x Shamans are 82 now and pull easily 10k on target dummy (normal 80 one). My main solo shaman is 85 and has a mixture of raid tier, hc gear and even a few greens and gets well above 18k on the dummy.
My solution to casting my dps like if i was to play solo together with tanking is a mapped key for every spell on my shaman that triggers my tank macro, with a modifier to turn it on / off.
As for stats:
Hit is our most important stat. For a raid boss (??? level, or 88) you need 17% hit. We can only get hit since 4.0.1 from gear, no more from talents nor from boomkins/shadow priests in the party. I believe for a lvl 87 boss (heroic dungeon boss) you need only 6% hit, though need to double check that. We do have a talent that converts spirit to hit.
So our main important stat is hit. After cap it's int / spellpower. Then haste, then mastery and then crit.
So gemming: assuming you are hit capped: int, haste & mastery. Don't gem crit.
As for reforging:
If you are not hit capped from gear & gemming, you could reforge crit to spirit. Once hit capped:
- if a piece of gear has haste but no mastery, then reforge excessive spirit or hit to mastery
- if a piece of gear has mastery but no haste, then reforge excessive spirit or hit to haste
- if a piece of gear has haste but no mastery, then reforge crit to mastery
- if a piece of gear has mastery but no haste, then reforge crit to haste
If you need to reforge crit to spirit to get hit capped, then preferably do it on a piece that has both crit, mastery & haste.

I thought blizzard was trying to step away from players trying to time DoTs when spellpower procs occur, by making all DoTs calculate off of the current spellpower at the moment of the tick. I have no idea if it's implemented as such, but that was one of their design goals for cata.

Until you start doing Raids, you can drop your hit WAY down to like 6%, you are at 11%. All the heroic bosses are level 87 I thought. So that extra 5% hit is worthless in heroics.
Also, you should drop searing totem after you start fighting, if it's a long fight, and it only stays up for like 60 seconds so you'll need to keep refreshing it. I've noticed that if you drop if before the fight it sometimes won't attack.
On heroic boss fights, I'm only seeing like 7-9k DPS on my shamans, but I sometimes use them to heal my main, so I'm not always non-stop dpsing.
On a target dummy non-stop casting I'll get about 12k dps tops.

DoT's yes, they change per tick depending on your buffs etc, but he was talking about Fire Elemental Totem.
