Difficulty logging in

Since patch 4.0 I have had difficulty logging in. The first attempt results in 2-3 of the 5 accounts successfully connecting. The other accounts will just hang at the loading screen for several minutes until getting disconnected. Apparently many people are having this problem. Here is a way to log in without using ALT-F4 to kill the windows that won't connect.

1. (on xp) Go to Start-> Run> 'COMMAND'

2. type IPCONFIG /RELEASE but don't press enter yet

3. use isboxer to start your WoW accounts

4. attempt to log in

5. if any of them hang, alt-tab to the DOS window and press enter. this will disconnect the accounts, even the hung ones

6. type IPCONFIG /RENEW and press enter

7. alt-tab back to WoW and log in again. you can do all 5 or however many simultaneously. they will all connect and log in this time.

I tried doing this and it cause my router to spaz out. I wasn't able to connect to WoW again.

I had to fix it by doing a System Restore. Kind of sucked. Thankfully I back up my PC once a week since I do a lot of shit on my computer.

Kind of weird one here too.

We decided to replace the switches for our lights, upstairs.
This involved turning the power out, at the fuse box.
And then going with on/off cycles, several times as switches were changed.

The power went on and off, maybe half a dozen times over an hour or so.
I had internet without issue prior to this.
Then I try to log in, but have partial network access, but no internet.
Reset the modem, router and reboot the PC, no luck.
The secondary system has no internet either.

Connected directly to the modem, the PC works fine.
So it seems my router went.
Well, it is at least 10 years old, but has served me well.
Decided to see if the spare router worked (a wireless one).
And it did.

Not sure why the router would decide to go.
From powering on and off, several times for an hour.

Router:

"Hey I get to work--"
Power Off.
"That was weird, let's--"
Power Off.
"Okay, seriously.. What the fu--"
Power Off.
"WHAT THE FU--"
Power Off.
'THAT'S IT I QUI-"
Power Off.

Router is dead.

Well... boxed with it, for classic Everquest, pre-Kunark.
Back when, for me, boxing meant three computers, each with a keyboard, mouse and monitor.

So, definitely got my use out of it.
