I'm trying to find a new team to run.

I did a mixed class team up to ~25, but really didn't like it, so I rolled a pally/3mage/shaman team.

So far it's a very powerful team in quest/random rewards, more powerful than the mixed team at the same level.

I know that mages are slightly OP at the moment, but other than future nerf potential, is there anything that you can think of that this team is lacking?

I get curse/magic/poison removal, the totems that I do get will be helpful, etc. I can't think of any downside, but I only have one toon at 80 so I have no heroic experience.

Thoughts?

Pretty good team.

Pally is an excellent tank.
Word of Glory, as Prot is frequently sufficient healing for most of the content in the game.

Shammy can be run as Healer, if you need it.
I'd imagine you'd need a real healer for harder instances and heroics.
But for questing, you'd likely be better off Elemental (or dual-spec).

The mages get you a good amount of burst.
And they have Evocation.
Plus the Shammy can do Mana Tide/Mana Spring.
Polymorph doesn't target all creature types, but it is probably the single strongest CC effect.

The team has decent burst and sustained DPS.
You'll have fun with it.

I bet you can get away with elemental and do just fine, likely the amount healed will be offset by having the mobs drop just that much faster.

I would swap out a mage for some other class, just for the character depth. Perhaps a warlock or shadow priest, there isn't much synergy with having an extra mage and the twitch is pretty minimal with some of the rotations in use right now.

That said, its going to get you through heroics easily.

I think that team will do fine. It's all in how creative you are with the pulls and macro's etc...

After seeing some of the stuff here, I'm pretty convinced that people can take almost any team and make it just as successful as the next.

I really am loving my druid and 4 shamans, just because I can be lazy. (4 heals if I need them, all the totems etc...).

With resto shaman talented you can dispel curse & magic, pally cleanse removes 1 poison & 1 disease. Don't underestimate those abilities nowadays. And you have an awesome CC team as well.

Thats the exact team I have been pushing for a long time (restro shaman and fire mage for single target and arcane for aoe), as I advised doomwhatever before he got banned and the post locked.

Thats my standard advice:

1) Tank pro pally or whatever
2) Healer restro shaman or whatever
3) DPS/CC fire or arcane mage or whatever

add more dps as needed.

And the team I will be running:

well see the first page of my web site.

The reason is you have top three in tank, healing and dps. (and 3-4 cc and two rez and mage ports and water). Very possibly the best of all 3 in fact as it could be arguded that any of the 5 are the best at what they do, although they could be as low as 3rd also.

Ya any 5 man team looks strong but this team has better defensive and more dps (espically aoe dps) then say 5 ele shaman. And you can make your restro ele in situations you need more dps.

And this is ideal pvp team also as if you spec fire you can do dps while moving and riptide is instant cast.

And its a caster team, cept for the tank .....

And you dont really need any of their targeted ground spells .....

Sam -Riptide doesn't out heal the world like you keep pushing.

@OP - This group is strong, but my choice would probably be 2 mages + a boom, destro, or ele. Just for the different debuffs/buffs

First, as said, play what you like. Second, tank, 3 dps and a healer is a good strategy. Only advice I'd offer is some variety in buffs and armor types.

My biggest complaint with the standard pally + 4 shaman team was farming item upgrades. Needing 4 semi-rare drops for the casters was a huge time-sink.

2 mages, druid, and a shaman would let you use any caster drop.

So true--- I swear all I do is shard melee gear and cloth caster gear.

Ya true enough in a 5 man box, no doubt you still have to play your healer properly. But seems you will get as much out of restro shaman as you would a priest.

But for me with 7 restro shaman; ya stacking riptide 7 times on my tank should be sufficient for most anything I will encounter.

2nd boss in heroic vortex pinnacle I used 4 resto + my pally... It is pretty lolzie having 4 everlivings + 4 riptides ticking on you :) Drop 4 healing rains and a holy radiance and it's like SPAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

None of the above

I had 2 teams in WOTLK. The very first team is Paladin + 4 shamies and second (mixed) team is DK+Boomkin+Warlock+Shamy+Priest. The biggest "problems" with the first team were:
- No instant AOE heal
- How much I need to run from the same instances to get geared 4 same class toons

If you want classic setup (tank+healer+3 dps) think about the priest as a healer. It's not too late for re-roll one char until your team has not high level. If you would like to step out of "classic" there are a lot of choices in this thread and around.

Team with 2+ passive healers looks very interesting, I just started 5 disc priest team. Survivability is amazing, cant wait to level them to 85 and run to instance with my DK as a tank.
