My rated BG first impressions

tough... I played 4 rated bg's tonight and got beat pretty good at all of them. did decent for a while at EOTS but lost 2 Strand and and AB. Played with 5 ele shaman. I'm not sure if it's just early season and good peeps are still low rated and crappy players are not even 85 yet.

I'm just scared that it's so much easier to win 5 arena games a week to cap your conquest, that the crappy players I usually beat on in pug bg's, won't be queing for rated bg's. I'm worried it's just going to end up all pro's :(

They really need to put something in to get people to play rated bg's. In fact, I don't think you should be able to play a non-rated bg personally. Otherwise you don't get casuals to balance things out a little.

I found that the teams we faced did a heck of a lot of CC and usually had 4 out of 15 as healers. I got fear bombed and cc'd so bad in strand I usually never even caught up to the demolishers. And in AB I could never click the dang flag because there was always someone alive tapping me during a cap.

Anyone else play any rated bg's yet and have any impressions?

Really would love to hear some uplifting stuff.... I"m thinking of changing my pvp team from shaman to some melee or something. Maybe even bunch of fear bombing locks.

Honestly, somewhere in between would be the most fun.

Always facerolling would get rather boring.
Never having an easy match, would be discouraging.

Ideally, a fair bit of challenge but able to win at least 50%, and maybe average 75%..
I suppose, if enough people do the rated stuff, you'll eventually get the correct rating for your skill... which should equate to 50% win/loss rate, if the system is working properly.

Soon as my shammys hit 85 they sucked lol ,The numbers you need at 85 to do the damage you was doing at 84 is totally stupid.I think they picked up some day labor workers at home depot to make the shammy talents.Earth quake talk about a joke 13k mana for that turd its kinda funny.Im not a real fan of the shammy tree.They gave away are good talents to other class left us with jack and shit,

That's not what you said. You wanted casuals, crappy PvPrs in the rated bg's because you were getting beat and you need the competition softened up for you. Its all about finding the right group. that work with you. but its a new still there a lot of stuff thats not adding up and with lack of gear without spending 1000's of gold on the caffed set there allways going to be someone doing BG in Greens

If you read one of my posts a few months ago I stressed that boxing would be detrimental to the team, any team. Focus fire means jack in bgs when everyone respawns so fast, sure its good to coordinate kills but it wont win the game for you. Also, once people start getting resilience, haha good luck.

So far the team I am on is 10-2 and my rating is 792, but others are different even though we played the same number of games. I dont know what is going on. We have only had 2 really good games and we lost both those, but damn were they fun. The 10 wins were just so easy we felt bad. Edit; This is solo- I guess it doesnt help. ;(


In terms of arena, everyone should get 2200 with ease. The MMR system is so broken atm everyone is getting inflated mmrs. There are 3-4 classes(war,mage,feral,aff lock) that are insane atm and even though hunters are not insane dmg wise they prove to still be one of if not the best bg class.

Instead go with, you cannot enter with a group larger than five players (ie, no raid queuing), and if you queue for a random it is rated.
Have an individual rating (queuing as a group uses the average rating), and place you with others as close to that rating as possible, then be opposed by a group at near the same rating too.

You'd have the largest group of players in the rated pool; no issues with needing 2 more players for your rated raid.
BG's would play as they already/always did.
And it would be an alternative to arena, for those who prefer the world pvp/battleground style.

Would still be stuck w/ the afk bots as there would be no way to get rid of them and Blizzard doesn't get rid of them anywhere near fast enough. I've been running with a PvP guild on a single toon for a few months prior to the xpac, premade vs premade we held our own and won as many as we lost. This is what I'm hoping rated bg's will turn into because it was fun working w/ a group of people that cared for the objective of the game more than highest dps, hk's or killing blows that they got fighting on the road.

i agree. boxers who are used to cleaning up in pugs vs nobody's are going to find that playing geared, organized teams with healers and CC is another thing altogether. smart rogues and mages will ruin your day. smart teams will purposefully not kill off all your guys. there are so many ways to screw with boxers in BG's and screw up the graveyard synch.

what's the deal with the inflated ratings in arenas that you're talking about? they just screw it up with the changes that were made to tie it in with bg's or what?

I gain big when I beat low MMR teams, and I lose little when I lose to low MMR team ? So my MMR always goes up, no matter what.

I sense some of it when I played solo with my friends but since we are not 1500 + on team/personal ratings yet. so I can't tell how much

Basically Blizz leveled it off so that everyone's going to get to 1500-2k MMR easily.

I would hope that PUGs become rampant on the servers.
Something like: "/2 Looking for more, rated BG's, have 1200+ Resilience."

The average player has nothing to lose from a rated match.
And gets gear that is one season better.
So a pretty decent incentive to go the Rated Battleground route.

If we run enough rated BG's, we will eventually raise/fall to a rating where we play equivalent rated teams.
That is subject to enough teams queuing at the same time.
So most likely to be even/fair fights (for our own skill/coordination level) on Mon/Tue evenings and weekend afternoons.

I don't think any serious PvP'ers are going to do rated BG's for anything more than shits and giggles. I think, like Ualaa said, 90%+ of groups are just going to be auctioning in /2 for people with a minimum gear level and that's it. They're going to be disorganized and unruly--it's going to be similar to regular BG's but with a bit more coordination--And I mean a token, a trifle really.

Get to 1500 easily yes. Get to 2k is also easy ? My understanding is that you don't really lose rating until you hit 1500. Do they change that to be 2k ? So you don't really lose much ratings until you hit 2k.
