I just got back into the game and I see that a LOT has changed in classes. I rerolled on a new server over to alliance and was curious what people thought the new group comp is going to be.

I know originally Shammies were the way to go, then a Pallly/Shammy group, and some are running full Paladin groups.

Just curious what some of the opinions are of those that are playing groups at higher levels.

the following is with PvE in mind. so if you want to pvp, just ignore this post and wait for someone with experience in that.

mostly it seems to be "play the classes you like", nowadays.

i for one did that from the beginning of my boxing "career", after trying "shamans only" to get used to boxing at all. i played 3 shamans when i started boxing with my girlfriend playing another 2 of them. we did that until level 60 and then decided we would like to play our mains we played before starting to multibox.
since then our main group was dk-tank, balance-druid, arcane/frost-mage, resto-druid, bm-hunter for most of wotlk.

i started fiveboxing some time ago and what i like to do is put a group together on http://raidcomp.mmo-champion.com/ with the char/s i want in the group and then optimize either for physical buffs/debuffs or for ranged caster buffs/debuffs.

if i had no chars on a server, i probably would start a heavily optimized group for caster dps, as i find them to be easier played than melee. my group setup is like this right now: http://raidcomp.mmo-champion.com/?c=5rmah00000000000000000000000000000000000 - one could exchange the feral druid for a prot paladin (or any tank, for that matter) and would still have nice synergy. which is what i go for.
fyi: this team is level 83 right now, so i guess it qualifies as "at higher levels" .

also... i'm a big altoholic, so i try to go for one char of every spec and such stuff. as i wrote at the beginning - try what you would like to play =) you can always level other chars and switch some chars from your team(s)...

my first 5 box group was a mixed group, pal, dru, mage, sham, lvl 80 lock or DK to help on the group quests. I took them to lvl 74 before I read about an all PAL group.

I leveled the 5 pals to 55 then swapped out one for a same lvl DK, and leveled them up to 80 as DK+4 rets. That was very fun to do, and the rets provided ok healing but never could get the group healing down right. If I fought a mob that did AOEs I was usualy done for unless I burned them down quick.

I have just started a 5 feral/boomkin troll druid group that leveled to 51, then dropped one out and am boosting with a 85 lock.

Ultimately it is play what you like, as you are the one that has to play it.

I still think shams are the PvE team of choice ( and any tank now ) some hard packs of mobs and be easily hex/ bind elemental. Healing is harder so 4 Chs will come in handy now more than ever. 4 healing streams ( one glyphed for the extra resist ) will help a ton. But i have not boxed this expansion content yet, just going by what i know from playing my raid shaman solo. Hex and bind elemental are both awesome CCs now btw.

what is it with everyone going solo in cata? i'm also soloing it, i just dont feel like boxing at the moment personally.
I dont want to do the whole gear grind again, i do miss it in pvp though, i like to see 3 people drop from chain lightning and a 4th from lb. ah memories

I'm still doing the mixed group of tankadin, ret, enh, resto +UH DK. No issues for me yet. 2 bind elementals, 2 hexes, 1 repentance covers pretty much all my CC needs. Plus AOE stuns on holy wrath for elementals & dragonkin. Interrupts and resists out the wazoo, WoG, Healing Rains, Healing Steam and Holy Radiance adds up to some nice healing.

A lot of classes got a lot of nice new tools to play with, so I think just about anything can be made to work together.
